Meeting: Questions & Answers

There was a meeting with friends of the Holloway/Twitty Families to discuss the case and the answers some questions. The meeting was held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 in Pelham, Al (Just south of Birmingham, AL).

The meeting consisted of presentations of various aspects of the case and a question and answer session.

The clarify internet rumors... Dave & Robin were are the day & night meeting, Beth was at the night meeting. Beth had a previous engagement and did not get back in town in time for the day meeting. Jug was unable to attend due to Homecoming at his sons college, he attended the game since his son is a football player.

There were many people there representing all aspects of the case, those that discussed the boycott, the blogs and the forums, among other things. Also members of Dave's family were present.

There were some things discussed at the meeting that the attendees are not allowed to discuss at this time, but I was given permission to post for all of us at BFN the general questions & answers. Answers were provided by Beth, Dave and Art Wood.

1. Did Natalee have any chronic illnesses, asthma, allergies? NO

2. Has Natalee ever been out of the US before her trip to Aruba? YES, She traveled to Austria when she was 16, she went with Beth.

3. Had Natalee ever ran away or threatened to? NO

4. Did Natalee have a tickle site, etc...? NO, she did IM on AOL with friends when she was younger, but had pretty much outgrown that by her Senior year.

5. Did she have a prepaid phone in Aruba? NO

6. Honors from high school? To name a few...fluent in Spanish, National Honor Society, Who's Who Among America's High School Student's, Dorians, many school clubs, and a Scholarship to the University of Alabama.

7. When did she meet Joran? On May 29th at the Casino.

8. Is that PVDS in the Casino video? Cannot be confirmed, the croupier does not recall PVDS being there.

I am sure that others that attended the meeting can add to what I have told you all, these were the ones that I wrote down.

Note to all that attended: we have been given permission to post the Q & A information but the other information does not need to be discussed at this time.

Personal note: It was very nice to meet all the people that attended. It was nice to put a real person with the people that we have come to know here. I really enjoyed the time that I spent with everyone I just wish that the circumstances had been different... I wish that Natalee was home and at school where she belongs.

Additional questions and answers: (Questions asked to Beth)

21. Beth, you made a statement that Joran's clothing the first night at the VDS residence was not in keeping with someone being in a Casino. What was Joran wearing? Joran was wearing light-weight short-short pants and a tee shirt.

22. Was Joran's clothes dirty? NO

23. Beth did Joran have a black eye? I do not remember.

24. Was Deepak's car seen inside the VDS compound? Yes, Alberto Groeneveld and Claudio Eldridge told me they had to climb the wall in order to write down the license number.

25. Where were Joran and Deepak when Paulus called on the cell phone? I really do not know.

26. Were the Sloots tipped-off that the family group had landed in Aruba? Beth -- not at first. Art Wood -- the Sloots were probably tipped-off when the family group stopped at the Noord Police Station to wait for Charles Croes, Alberto Groeneveld and Claudio Eldridge to return from the VDS residence.

27. Was a medjet ever in Aruba and if so what were the reasons for it being there? They did have a medjet available due to the possibility that Natalee was being held in a crack house and would not know her condition when they found her.

Personal note: the family was told over and over by the ALE to check the crackhouses in the first few days of the investigation.

BTW There are certain things that were talked about that we are told not to discuss yet but I just got off the phone a little bit ago and got the ok to post some things and to clear up some issues that have been in dispute on the blogs.

To begin with here's a starting list

-- It's been said on blogs that Beth made posters to put up before she ever went to aruba. Beth did not make them but some "kidnapped" posters were made before they left the ground , in the time that Beth was driving back from Arkansas. When they got there, ALE would not allow her to use any posters with the word "kidnapped". That's where Julia Renfro comes into the picture --- Julia is the one who suggested the "Hootie" posters and the wording for it and she printed them up.

--- They flew in on the mcwane jet and the medjet was called after they got there because ALE was insisting that she would probably show up in a crack house based on what they had seen from tourists in the past. It was sent by a friend in Alabama and I dont know who. The bill was paid for by the friend as well and not out of funds from the search fund.

-- yes, Beth really got pulled over for speeding on her drive back to alabama and she really did tell the officer that her daughter was "kidnapped" because that is what she believed at the time. She believed that because Natalee was reliable and it was very out of place for her to miss her flight and nowhere to be seen and none of her friends knew either.

-- In the casino video Natalee was on her friend's cell phone. The way it was described was that the girls had made a call to a friend and were all passing it around to say hi.

--There is no missing luggage.

Netherlands, Antilles sign agreement to restructure Caribbean territories' status

THE HAGUE, Netherlands: The Dutch government and the Netherlands Antilles have signed a long-awaited agreement granting the Caribbean territories of Curacao and St. Maarten autonomy, and giving smaller islands in the group the status of Dutch municipalities, officials said Friday.

The Netherlands Antilles — which includes Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten — has been a self-governing territory since 1954, deferring only the issues of foreign policy and defense to the Netherlands.

However, the smaller territories have complained they are underfunded and overlooked by the Antillean government, based in Curacao's capital of Willemstad. The larger territories argue they are economically viable to stand alone.

"I congratulate you, Curacao and St. Maarten, dutifully and from my heart," said the Dutch minister of royal affairs, Atzo Nicolai, noting that the two would cooperate more closely with the Netherlands.

"This is a historic agreement," Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende told reporters in The Hague. "It is very important that we've taken this step."
He said the government hoped to hold a conference early next year with leaders of the Netherlands Antilles to work out more details of the agreement.

Antilles President Emily de Jongh-Elhage, in The Hague, said the agreement meant "the bonds will be closer, not only between the islands, but also with the European part of the kingdom."

An issue that has complicated the Antilles' government structure is the location of the territories. Curacao is near Bonaire, off the coast of Venezuela. St. Maarten shares an island with the French territory, St. Martin, and is located along with Saba and St. Eustatius about 450 miles (724 kilometers) northeast among the Leeward Islands chain, east of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Some officials have said that the vast space between the islands has made it harder for the territories to stop criminal gangs from moving drugs through the region.

In a statement, the Dutch Interior Ministry said part of the deal involved substantial reforms to police and prosecution offices throughout the region.

"But before this new system comes, police standards will have to be improved," the ministry said.

The Netherlands Antilles, along with Aruba, were colonized by the Dutch in the 17th century, and for years were known as the Dutch West Indies. Aruba was granted autonomy in 1986.

The agreement signed Friday followed referendums on both Curacao, with a population of about 250,000, and St. Maarten, with 39,000 residents. As of July 1, they each will govern themselves independently except on matters of defense, foreign policy and law enforcement, which will be decided at The Hague — an arrangement similar to Aruba's.

Bonaire, with 13,000 residents, and tiny Saba, with 1,200, and St. Eustatius, with 3,000, will take on city status within the Netherlands.

The Dutch government agreed to take over the islands' debts of €2.3 billion (US$3.2 billion).

The status changes were announced a day before Dutch Queen Beatrix and Nicolai were to visit the Netherlands Antilles.

Tremendous release in The Hague

WILLEMSTAD – With the reaching of a political agreement, the governmental deliberation came to an end on Thursday evening at 22:10 in a tremendous release in the big hall of the Spaanse Hof in The Hague. The spirit was effusive, much released, so now and then emotional, and with huge satisfaction and confidence of Curacao, St. Maarten, as well as the Netherlands.

There were many compliments and congratulations; officially in the speeches, but also informal between the Dutch officials and Antillean advisors. They kissed, shook hands, and gave hugs, while television cameras and photographers created a glamorous atmosphere with their flashes. It was very cold outside, with frequent showers of hail, but there was a warm spirit inside. Many Antillean delegation members called home immediately and also former minister Alexander Pechtold (D66), who together with his fellow party member and predecessor Thom de Graaf helped lay the basis for this final statement, used their mobile telephones to congratulate many of the Antillean delegation members.

Prominent guest of honor of this celebration was vice-president Herman Tjeenk Willink of the Council of State, the highest advisory body of the Dutch- and Federal government.

Premier Emily de Jongh-Elhage (PAR) consulted him in the past days, when it became so tense in the nightly hours. In her final speech, she named his name, but didn’t say what part he played in this; she only said that ‘he is a very special friend’. Also State Councillor Gilbert Wawoe was present last night.

The Antillean Premier received a lot of applause when she called for minister Atzo Nicolaï, who a few months ago was secretary of states of European Affairs, but was determined to reach an agreement with the islands before the elections in the Netherlands would lead to possibly other political relations. Even though the Antilles-document is often not of much importance to the Dutch media and in the Binnenhof, the minister’s officials and other insiders say that Nicolaï, with his vigorous conclusion, stood an excellent chance within the cabinet and his own party. There was also applause when the Curacao commissioner Zita Jesus-Leito (PAR) exclaimed ‘Biba Korsou’ and indicated that she is very proud being part of this ‘historic process’. She said that she is convinced that this agreement will inspire the politics in Curacao, the consultative platform, and the advisors even more. “An extremely important task rests on our shoulders and we will have to accomplish this in a dynamic and transparent manner.”

Possibly with the elections in a few months in her mind, Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams (DP) released emotions and applause, when she invited her political opponents William Marlin and Gracita Arrindell of the opposition parties NA and PPA to share the stage with her ‘as the political leaders of the smallest country of the Kingdom’. “We have waited for six years. We have made the impossible become possible. You have proven the critics wrong!”. And to Nicolaï she said: “You risked your neck, and we shall proof that you were right. God bless the Netherlands, the islands and the people of St. Maarten!”

Right before this, Nicolaï recalled that a historic agreement was also reached three weeks ago with Bonaire, Saba, and Statia that will get a position within the Dutch government in the future, which is similar to that of a municipality. “This is also historic. We have achieved a prize result and put up a unique performance. I like to congratulate Curacao and St. Maarten with becoming a country. You become a country; a small, but beautiful and special country, and with that, your fundamental choice for close cooperation on crucial issues. We remain fellow-Dutchmen.”

The party continued far into the night for St. Maarten and especially Curacao with champaign and shoarma in the lobby of Hotel Mercury. The delegation returned home with this morning’s flight.

Dull? Us? That's how travellers see White North

Tue Nov 7 2006

By Steven Edwards

UNITED NATIONS --More people around the world are visiting other countries -- but passing on Canada, according to a United Nations study released Monday.

While the number of tourists travelling abroad is up 4.5 per cent over the last year worldwide, Canada saw a 4.1 per cent decline.

Officials say we're seen as unexciting, increasingly expensive and a hassle to enter when arriving at the U.S. border.

John Kester, chief of the WTO market intelligence department that produces the annual study, says his teams of statistics gatherers are still telling him there remains an international perception that Canada is dull.

This is particularly detrimental given more and more international travelers are today young people in search of risk and adventure.

"We are finding that young people are driving the world tourism market, but the image Canada has might not appeal to them very much," said Kester in an interview from WTO's headquarters in Madrid, Spain. “It’s seen as quiet, safe. I don't think many people think of Canada as a very exciting destination."

Officials of the Canadian tourism industry have been aware for some time Canada has an "image" problem, and the Canadian Tourism Commission is spending $75-million a year to improve it through its "Brand Canada" campaign. It involves advertising and encouraging overseas media to report on the joys of visiting the Great White North.

"We find that people feel very positively towards Canada as a country, but they don't necessarily know how they would translate that into a vacation experience," said Michele McKenzie, CTO president and CEO.

"We're trying to put new images in people's minds of the types of experiences they can have in Canada -- from dining to shopping , to outdoors: the full range."

Among provinces pushing their own initiatives, Alberta last spring dispatched a posse of rope-tricking cowboys to the streets of New York to try to capitalize on the success of the movie Brokeback Mountain, which was filmed in the province.

"We're expanding our public relations and awareness efforts, because that still seems to be the biggest issue," said Don Boyton, chief spokesman for Travel Alberta.

Overall, the Americas saw a 2.5 per cent increase in tourism, "pulled down," as the report put it, by Canada and hurricane-hit Mexico. The United States saw a four per cent increase.

One consolation was that the 18.6 million tourists who did visit Canada last year spent more money than the larger earlier crowd, depositing a record $18.4 billion US. That's in part explained by promotional efforts focused on attracting so-called "high-yield" tourists ready to spend big on hotels, restaurants and fun, rather than young granola-munching backpackers.

In the Americas, Canada's percentage decline is exceeded only by Montserrat, where the Soufriere Hill volcano that erupted with devastating effect in 1995 is still rumbling; Aruba, scene of the much-publicized Natalee Holloway murder; and Uruguay.

EX-U.S. AGENT CLAIMS: COVER-UP IN ARUBA

The family of murder victim Natalee Holloway is turning to the U.S. State Department for help — after two startling new developments raised red flags about how authorities in Aruba handled the case.

First, a special "cold case" squad dispatched from Holland to investigate Natalee's disappearance departed from Aruba without interviewing any suspects — prompting insiders to call the trip a sham!

Second, The ENQUIRER has learned that prime suspect Joran van der Sloot's father Paulus, who is a lawyer, not only sat in on his son's crucial first interrogation — but also changed Joran's written statement!

"It was the very start of the cover-up. Now we'll never know what Joran admitted to during that first police interview," former U.S. Secret Service agent Art Wood told The ENQUIRER.

The interview took place May 31, 2005 — hours after 18-year-old Natalee vanished on the last night of her Alabama high school's graduation trip to Aruba.

Summary of the monthly bulletin of the Central Bank van Aruba for September 2006*

November 9, 2006

In September 2006, money supply grew by Afl. 9.7 million or 0.4 percent to Afl. 2,473.3
million. This increase was the result of an Afl. 5.4 million inflow of funds from abroad and an Afl. 4.3 million expansion of net domestic assets. Net foreign assets settled at Afl. 625.9 million at end September 2006, which is Afl. 32.6 million or 5.0 percent less than in the corresponding month a year earlier.

The increase in net domestic assets resulted from an Afl. 21.4 million rise in domestic
credit, which was partially offset by an Afl. 17.1 million decline in non-credit related balance sheet items. Net claims of the banking sector on the private sector went up by Afl. 16.1 million, largely because of an Afl. 14.3 million (2.7 percent) surge in consumer credit reflecting mainly a notable rise in car loans granted by the banking sector. In addition, housing mortgages grew by Afl. 4.7 million (0.6 percent). In contrast, loans to enterprises fell by Afl. 2.4 million (0.2 percent). Net claims of the banking sector on the public sector rose by Afl. 5.3 million following an Afl. 2.6 million contraction in government’s deposits at the banking system.

Changes in the money supply in September 2006:

b. Loans to enterprises -2.4

d. Housing mortgages +4.7
e. Other claims by the banking sector -0.5
f. Non-credit-related balance sheet items -17.1

3. Net change in money supply +9.7

( “+”=increase / “-”=decrease)

In July 2006, the number of stay-over visitors and their nights spent on the island fell by 9.1 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively, compared to the corresponding month in 2005. In the first seven months of 2006, stay-over visitors and total nights spent on the island went down by 10.2 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively. However, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the average occupancy rate of the hotels for September 2006 shows a contraction of 2.5 percentage points to 66.6 percent, compared to the corresponding month a year earlier. Figures on tourist arrivals and nights spent on the island for August and September 2006 are not yet available.

Data published by the Cruise Tourism Authority reveal that the number of cruise
passengers and ship calls went up by 45.7 percent and 14.3 percent, respectively, in
September 2006, when compared to the corresponding month of 2005.

In September 2006, the consumer price index was 4.1 percent higher than in the
corresponding month a year earlier. The annual average inflation rate was also 4.1 percent, which is an acceleration of 0.9 percentage point compared to the corresponding period a year earlier. He will be checking out facts, like the eyewitness at the Saliña found by DIARIO family members, the lady eyewitness that saw a car from her house that was found by the private investigator paid by DIARIO, he will use facts from the Condom guy that was interviewed by DIARIO, and will also use the fact of helicopters landing on home's yards saw only by DIARIO reporter and cars with Natalee running away from the ALE.

He will also get the facts about Beth's behaviors that were published in DIARIO, like the Alto Vista stories that do not match, the Cab driver's stories, the fish trap that was never reported stolen and many more.

I guess this will be a show to watch, you never know, new stories or facts might come out.

Commotion about article 10 amazes Presiding Judge

WILLEMSTAD — Presiding Judge Luis de Lannoy is ‘very pleased’ recognizing the Court-advice on the organization of the Antillean/Aruban Court in last week’s political final statement. But the commotion about article 10 amazes him. “We now want to sabre the final statement, due to the possibility that a Dutch minister can interfere in criminal proceedings.” The Antillean/Aruban Court, which is actually us, has ultimately the last word when it comes to criminal proceedings.

De Lannoy told the Amigoe that he can be very short about the ‘Joint Court’ in the final statement. The negotiators were also short during the deliberations on this. “There was already a consensus. The Court has been proactive and thought about its future and put these thoughts on paper as an advice for the Kingdom government. The Court based its thoughts on the Jesurun-report.” Almost everybody agreed with the advice, even Aruba. The Preparatory-committee Round Table Conference (V-RTC) used this Court-advice as basic assumption, while the non-paper ‘Partners in the Kingdom’ acted on it. “I am therefore very pleased with the present paragraph in the final statement. I am also very proud that the Antillean/Aruban Court is the creator of this paragraph, and not a BZK-official (Foreign Affairs and Kingdom Relations, editor). The administration of justice is shaped and organized after the model of the administrators of justice themselves.”

He can not give an opinion on the proposed or settled way of location and persecution as yet. His only comment is that he is amazed at the fuss. This is only about persecution of penal offences. ‘A small part of the government’s duty’. 50 Percent of the final statement is about justice and the other 50 percent about finance. Apparently of much interest to the Netherlands.

Hardly anything is said about government concerns. “We are probably autonomous in these fields. Let’s fix our attention on those fields, like the organization of education, healthcare, public housing, elderly care, social and economic development, our infrastructure, etc.”

To his opinion, there is still a lot to do in these fields, more than criminal proceedings, and besides, will any Dutch minister of Justice ever use the possibility of interfering in the criminal proceedings?

“Besides, article 66 Collaboration-ordering, as interpreted and completed by the jurisprudence is included literally is the final statement”, said De Lannoy referring to items 18, 19, and 20. “This means that also the Court can give orders to the district-attorney, and this goes beyond giving instructions.”

Furthermore, the consequences of the present ordering are also that at the end, the Court can judge the instructions of the Dutch minister on legitimacy, which means that the Antillean/Aruban Court is the biggest boss in the field of persecution and has the last word ultimately, and can even block an instruction of a hasty Dutch minister.

Central Bank: Accelerated inflation

ORANJESTAD – The Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) has calculated that the price index figure for the family consumption in September was 4.1 percent higher that in September of 2005. The average inflation pace on a yearly basis was also 4.1 percent, which means an acceleration of 0.9 percent point compared with same period a year ago. This inflation percentage is 0.4 percent higher than de average annual inflation of the United States.

The Bank announced this in the recently published monthly report of September 2006. This report also mentions that the information about the number of sojourn tourists and the number of days they stayed is not yet available for the months of August and September. The last figures are from July 2006 and they show a decrease of respectively 9.1 and 5.4 percent, compared same period last year.

The number of sojourn tourists and the number of days they stayed has dropped with respectively 10.2 and 7.2 percent in the first seven months of this year. However, according to CBS, the room occupancy of the hotels show a drop of 2.5 to 66.6 percent for September, compared with last year. The number of cruise passengers and the number of cruise ships that called in has increased with 45.7 and 14.3 percent, compared with September of 2005.

CBA’s monthly report also shows that the money quantity has increased with 9.7 million florins or 0.4 percent to 2.473,3 million florins. The net change in the money quantity is determined by changes in the net home- and net foreign active. The increase of the money quantity is attributed to a net supply of exchange from abroad of 4.3 million florins. The net foreign active was 625.9 millions at the end of September, which are 32.6 million florins less than the end of September of last year.

Aruba Tourism Continues To Fall - Boycott Stronger Then Ever

Summary: The boycott of Aruba related to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway is stronger than ever. The recession we previously reported has now triggered inflation, which is a very bad economic sign.

In an article by Boycott Watch President Fred Taub that was originally published by World Net Daily on June 15, 2006, ( here and here ) Boycott Watch broke the story that Aruba had lied about its tourism numbers in the face of a boycott related to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Aruba then backtracked in its reports to cover up the fact that tourism was down, not up as they originally reported. Aruba's backtrack, however, was not enough.

Why would Aruba lie about tourism numbers? Simple - The island country relies on tourism for its survival, and the US represents the number one tourism dollar source, so Aruba officials wanted everyone to be happy and visit Aruba despite the boycott called by average Americans ( here ) and reaffirmed by Alabama's Governor. ( here )

In a press release by the Central bank of Aruba on November 9, 2006 ( here ), Aruba reported "In July 2006, the number of stay-over visitors and their nights spent on the island fell by 9.1 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively, compared to the corresponding month in 2005. Figures on tourist arrivals and nights spent on the island for August and September 2006 are not yet available."

This report clearly states that tourism to Aruba continues to fall over past declines, which indicates that travel to Aruba is still being hurt by the boycott of Aruba related to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

The report continued: "Data published by the Cruise Tourism Authority reveal that the number of cruise passengers and ship calls went up by 45.7 percent and 14.3 percent, respectively, in September 2006, when compared to the corresponding month of 2005.

"In September 2006, the consumer price index was 4.1 percent higher than in the corresponding month a year earlier. The annual average inflation rate was also 4.1 percent, which is an acceleration of 0.9 percentage point compared to the corresponding period a year earlier. This inflation rate is 0.4 percentage point higher than the annual average inflation rate for the United States in the same period."

From this, we see that although Aruba has attracted cruise companies to make Aruba one port of call, people are not specifically going to Aruba and that prices are rising as businesses in Aruba are trying to do whatever they can to retain income, thus inflation has set in while sales are down - a bad economic condition.

Although one may have expected there to be an easing of the Aruba boycott or at least a leveling off, that has not happened. The boycott of Aruba related to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and the way the Aruba government has handled the case is in full force, and the effects of the boycott are growing.

One-On-One with Natalee Holloway's Mother

Seth Seymour

November 14,2006 Natalee Holloway is a face and name you know too well.

Beth Holloway Twitty is the mother mourning that teenager, now for nearly 19 agonizing months.

"They have to find Natalee. They have to find our daughter," Twitty pleaded only days after Natalee disappeared on a school trip in Aruba.

That was then.

"And I have just as much hope today as I did in the beginning."

This is Twitty now.

"For Natalee, we know it's too late. We also know it's too late for us," she says.

Natalee has never been found. But it's not too late, she says, for others who travel unaware of what can happen.

That was her message to 400 people in Cleveland Tuesday night at a $75-per-plate fund-raiser for the Tennessee Christian Academy.

"When you have a missing person or a crime committed in a foreign country, you're very restricted with the information you get from officials," Twitty says.

And this mother is still suffering from that same problem.

"As far as Natalee's investigation goes, we really don't know where it stands."

But Twitty charges ahead, trying to find answers, trying to help others through her organization International Safe Travels Foundation.

It's all because of the daughter she might never see again.

"She loved her friends, she loved life. She was dedicated and committed, and she wanted to make a difference. So now we're trying."

David Kock's latest information.

Nothing New in the case for months.

In an interview with David Kock yesterday by local media, he reminded them about the case that he has on November 30, 2006 representing the Kalpoe Brothers. He insists that the case is just not to clear their names in the Natalee Holloway case, but emphasized that the Kalpoe Brothers wanted the judge to either close the case against them or go to court and prove their involvement in the woman's disappearance.

As we all know, this request was made back in July, but the court gave the Prosecutor an extension, since there were "new developments" back then that the judge could not make a decision. The case was already delayed because the prosecutor did not cooperate with the judge as he requested all the documents in the case.

On November 1, 2006 they got a new problem. All the documents, tapes and evidences were sent to the Netherlands to be reviewed. Kock said that the ALE reviewed them a few times over already, the FBI reviewed them as well and now, just to show that there is nothing new or overlooked in this case, the Dutch will have the same opportunity to do so. He said that there is nothing new in the case. Nothing has changed for months.
He also informed that Kalpoe's request for a new working permit was denied in court (LAR). It has nothing to do with the case itself, but Aruba has a control system, where those who ask for working permit can be denied based on a decision made by the department of Labor. The immigration and naturalisation department issues working permits.

In Aruba, if there is any available Aruban that can work that job, a permit for a non-Aruban to work that same job is denied. Working permits are usually issued for areas where there is no Aruban available to fill that job, usually construction workers, hotel employees and others.

With this sentencing it just prohibits Kalpoe to work at the Internet Cafe. But he can always apply for other openings elsewhere.

Twitty Says Tragedy Led to Mission

In front of more than 600 Samford University students Monday night, Beth Holloway Twitty shared intimate details of the nightmare that has evolved into her life's mission.

"I never imagined that I would be traveling around telling people of how Natalee was kidnapped, raped and most likely murdered on the last night of her senior trip," Twitty told the students inside Reid Chapel after a video tribute to her missing daughter.

Natalee Holloway was last seen on May 30, 2005, during a senior class trip to Aruba after graduation from Mountain Brook High School.

In a press conference before her speech, Twitty said there are not any new developments in the case.

"(Aruban officials) still say they're doing searches, but we just don't have any communication from them," Twitty said. "It's so frustrating."

In the year and a half since her daughter has been missing, Twitty has founded the nonprofit International Safe Travels Foundation to educate the public about travel safety. She spoke to students at Samford about her spiritual journey since her daughter's abduction, but she also stressed the importance of properly preparing for safe international travel.

"I'm not saying in any way that you shouldn't travel outside this country," Twitty said. "But you need to remember you do leave behind the privileges and rights that we're accustomed to here in the U.S. and that we take for granted."

Twitty said students should be proactive when traveling overseas, such as carrying emergency contact numbers of the U.S. government and becoming familiar with the laws of the countries they plan to visit.

Ahata: Briesen should be better advised

ORANJESTAD — Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (Ahata) has put full page ads in the newspapers, saying that the association is disappointed in the statements of minister Edison Briesen (MEP) of Tourism and Transport. The minister said recently that everybody should stop putting into their head that there is a crisis in the Aruban tourism, because that’s not the case. Ahata is of the opinion that Briesen must let himself be advised better, because the facts are clear: “in comparison with competing islands, we are doing badly.”

Ahata published a comparison between the first six months of 2006 with the first six months of 2005. The tourism figures of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) for the above comparison show a negative growth of 10.3 percent. With the exception of St. Maarten that experienced a drop of 1.4 percent, the other Caribbean islands show a growth. The tourism in Curacao increased with 4.6 percent and Bermuda with 11.7 percent. On November 2nd, Briesen said in a press conference that the tourism figures have dropped a little, but not alarming. Compared with june of 2005, all the branches of tourism in Aruba have dropped considerably in same period 2006. Only the passengers coming to Aruba by air have increased with 2 percent. Where is the crisis then?

Briesen says that one of the reasons for lower room occupancy in the hotels is the room rates, which are extraordinary high and Ahata should acknowledge her share in this. Ahata: It is ironic that the government has given the mandate to invest millions in renovations and expansions and so attract the richer tourists. In her promotion campaigns, the government is more and more targeting the top of the tourism market. Besides, the government receives more room tax from these high room rates. The minister should not be focusing on ‘Aruba does not do that bad yet’, but on how to continue with the success, so that Aruba can assure herself of her position in the next 20 to 30 years.

The permanent committee Tourism meets tomorrow. During this meeting, the Members of Parliament will discuss with minister Briesen the situation with Ahata.

IS THIS NATALEE'S BODY?

The family of Natalee Holloway is seeking scientific experts to examine a shocking
photograph that may show the missing teen's body bundled in plastic!

The picture — obtained exclusively by The ENQUIRER — shocked Natalee's mother,
Beth Holloway Twitty, when she saw it for the first time in late October.

"Beth got very upset. She told me it was very disturbing," said 58-year-old retired
businesswoman Angela Pelletier, who did the photographic detective work that exposed
the horrifying image.

The blurry image was taken from a video first seen on June 10, 2005 — less than two
weeks after 18-year-old Natalee vanished at the end of a graduation trip to Aruba with her
Alabama high school class.

Pelletier zoomed in on a large piece of white plastic sheeting crammed into a 4-foot by
4-foot storm drain just a few yards from the fishermen's huts where Natalee was last seen
with prime suspect Joran van der Sloot.

After months of sophisticated digital maneuvering, Pelletier produced a negative image —
and through the plastic sheeting there appears to be a hazy image of a young woman's face.

"It looked just like Natalee. I even saw blonde hair," Pelletier told The ENQUIRER.

Timeshare-association ATSA desperate

ORANJESTAD – The Aruba Time Share Association (ATSA) sounds the alarm again, despite the fact that this organization is one of the sectors within the tourist branch that still experiences increasing visitors’ figures.

“The efforts of the one ministry to attract tourists to Aruba are being negated by the other ministry, because they put big barriers when it comes to admittance to our island. It almost seems to happen inadvertently and it dejects us”, said Jan van Nes during a press conference on Wednesday. Immediate cause for the meeting was a complaint of an American couple. They have been wintering in Aruba for almost 20 years and this year they were told upon arrival in Aruba that they cannot stay longer than 30 days on the island. They will have to request the Dimas for an extension of their stay. That’s what they did. After three hours waiting in the sun, the couple got inside the building and it then turned out that none of the employees knew what to do and the American couple was given a form to fill, which by al means was in Dutch.

When they were back in their hotel, they learned that this ‘application for the extension of a tourist stay’ requires a guarantor that must be willing to pay for all the expenses of the foreigner, like support and accommodation, and also the expenses caused by a possible ‘forced departure’.

This is contrary to the arrangements made by ATSA with the government earlier this year. The arrangement was that the stay of timeshare tourists from the United States, Canada, European Union, Switzerland, and Japan will automatically be extended to 180 days. Rules are even worse for other tourists. Their guarantor has to produce three salary statements and a new certificate of residence. The treatment the tourists get and the fact that a guarantor is required went down the wrong way. “The timeshare industry is the backbone of the tourist branch. While all the other sectors showed a drop, the timeshare had grown with 2 percent this year. About 50 percent of the 700.000 tourists that visit Aruba are from the timeshare sector”, mentioned consultant Andy Osbourne. He emphasized that timeshare holders are Aruba’s best good will ambassadors and if we do not make sure that they have a positive message to propagate, it would hurt the arrival of tourists.

ATSA also mentioned their concern about the procedures around obtaining work- and residence permits. The timeshare industry will grow from 2500 to 5000 units in the coming years. About 15.000 workers will be needed for this. Obtaining or extending a work permit is a lengthy and complex process. The costs for this continue to rise and the chance to recruit qualified people again and provide them with a permit is at odds with the development plan of the industry.

“The above and the introduction of the bbo lead to the conclusion that Aruba is becoming more and more an unattractive destination. Do we really want this? We appeal to the government to work together and pursue consistent policy to make for the tourism, and not to frustrate it”, said a spokesperson of ATSA.

Setting the Record Straight

Over the last week or so a rumor has started on some of the blogs that a new search was underway.
Let me try and set the record straight.

On November 2nd, at the request of Natalee’s family I met with a gentleman who claimed to have information about Natalee’s location, this was his second extended visit to Aruba in the last 17 months to search for her.

I met with him and traveled to a location where he claims she is.
Not having been born yesterday I had my doubts, however after spending a considerable amount of time with this individual and listening to his story of how he came to his conclusion about the location I had to advise the family that there is a possibility that he may be right.

A number of LE people where contacted along with an investigator from the Diario.

At this writing there is no new information, the area is being evaluated at this time.

Someone has posted here and at another blog with some riddles about a new search, it was not I, nor do I know who that person is.
I checked the individual who brought the lead forward to the family and he stated to me that it also was not him who has posted the latest riddles about a new search.

This may turn out to be nothing but even if it is only a 1% chance of being right, it still needs to be checked.

Trouble in paradise: Crime in the Caribbean

BY GARY LEE
THE WASHINGTON POST

November 17, 2006, 2:35 PM EST

Accounts published in Caribbean news media and on locals' blogs indicate that break-ins at small hotels or vacation rentals are occurring more frequently on some Caribbean outposts and in parts of Bermuda and the Bahamas.

No overall regional statistics are available on vacation home thefts affecting tourists in the Caribbean. However, the most recent U.S. State Department consular information sheets, which give up-to-date safety information on countries around the globe, cite break-ins in the past year in St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis, Aruba, Bonaire and St. Maarten. The reports also have begun recommending that visitors lock valuables in hotel safes and other properties on almost all Caribbean islands, Bermuda and the Bahamas.

Until recently, the biggest worry facing most tourists in the Caribbean was petty crime: aggressive soliciting, muggings and purse snatchings. But in the past two years, according to accounts by travelers and in the Caribbean press, a rising number of infractions have occurred in vacation accommodations. In most cases, intruders broke into quarters and took cameras, cell phones, cash, laptops and passports. In some cases, they raped or killed.

In June, for instance, an American couple at Mago Estate, a small eco-lodge near the southern tip of St. Lucia, were awakened in the night by intruders. They were robbed, and the wife was raped, according to an account on a Web site they created. Two suspects are awaiting trial.

In a string of incidents that have rocked the island of Tobago in the past year and a half, four robbers -- masked and wielding cutlasses -- entered a rental villa in the upscale Mount Irvine area and attacked three men from England. The incident left two of the visitors with cuts from the weapons.

In July 2005, a British teen-ager vacationing with his family in a private residence in St. James Parish, Barbados, was shot and killed by an intruder. Three men have been charged.

To be sure, incidents like those affect a minuscule percentage of travelers to the Caribbean.

"We're not saying don't go to these islands," said a State Department spokesman, who asked not to be quoted by name, in keeping with department policy. "But take the same precautions that you would in other places."

Most tourism authorities and property owners also emphasized the low crime rate in the islands compared with resorts in the United States or other places. In some islands, officials have responded by beefing up crime-fighting forces. St. Lucia added police officers, brought in senior law enforcement officials from England and is installing a forensics lab to assist in crime follow-up, said Kirby Allain, a spokesman for the government of St. Lucia. In Tobago, the government plans to supplement the police force, install new streetlights across the island and introduce more patrols in popular beach areas. Anguilla also has increased its police force.

Faced for the first time with rising crime, many of the locals and travel vendors on the affected islands have been jolted. "Over the years, we have had so little crime that when we have some, it sets us back," said Kimberly Mahabir, a manager at Tobago's Caribbean Estates, Lands & Villas, a real estate and rental agency. "But now we have to adjust and make whatever changes are necessary for our safety and that of visitors."

N.Y. schools try to discourage spring break trips

N.Y. schools try to put brakes on spring break

Letter to parents questions tradition of Caribbean party

Ralph Gardner Jr., New York Times

Sunday, November 19, 2006

This time of year, seniors at New York's elite high schools can glimpse the finish line off in the distance. They have taken the SATs for the last time. Their personal essays sing. And, with luck, they have sent their early-admission applications in on time. All that remains is to keep up their GPAs, pray that their first-choice school recognizes their singularity -- and begin planning for spring break.

Almost as entrenched as SAT tutors or senior prom, spring break has become a tradition for seniors at Manhattan's private schools and a few affluent public schools in the New York suburbs. It involves gathering with several hundred other overachievers for a week or more in the Bahamas or Mexico, unsupervised but for the presence of their fellow travelers in calculus or advanced bio. In other words, not supervised at all.

But this year the heads of seven Manhattan private schools sent a letter to parents of seniors expressing misgivings about the spring trips because of the vulnerability of adolescents under the influence of alcohol. The letter encouraged parents to find alternative destinations, with a responsible adult as a chaperone, before their children reserved rooms or bought nonrefundable airline tickets.

"These are not school-sponsored events, nor are they a 'tradition' that we endorse," the heads of Brearley, Browning, Chapin, Collegiate, Dalton, Nightingale-Bamford and Spence wrote in the letter, which went out in the last two weeks. "We urge you to say no to any unsupervised trips of this nature before planning starts."

Needless to say, the students are not happy. Many see the trips as a reward for slogging through the stressful college admissions process.

All these students "have worked so hard to get into good colleges," said Quincy Kevan, a Nightingale-Bamford graduate, recalling her trip with about 25 classmates to the Bahamas last spring. "It's a reward and a rite of passage to be able to go on spring break and party for a week."

And some parents -- who, after all, are supplying their credit cards so their children can frolic in the tropics with their peers -- are sympathetic.

"A part of me thinks these kids get so much and are so entitled," said Dr. Carlin Vickery, the mother of a Spence senior. "But the whole college process is so toxic you almost feel you want to do something nice for them."

The tradition of high schoolers congregating en masse without teacher or parent supervision at Caribbean resorts is hardly universal. "It is not a phenomenon in other parts of the country," said Dorothy A. Hutcheson, the head of Nightingale-Bamford. She added that when she asks other educators about it, "they look at me as if I'm crazy that this is a regular occurrence in New York City."

Piggybacking on the college spring-break tradition, the practice began among private-school seniors around a decade ago, the school heads said, a consequence of the teenagers' urge to let off steam after the college race was done, their family's good financial fortune and childhoods where travel to exotic locales had become second nature.

Most private schools also schedule spring break at the same time, allowing students from various schools to vacation together. This year it is the last week of March and the first week of April. For suburban public schools, it often varies.

Even though most hotels require all guests to be accompanied by someone 21 or older, they rarely enforce this, students said, and the young guests further evade the rule by having their parents make the reservations. But the seniors insist it is not quite "Girls Gone Wild," even if the occasional wet T-shirt contest seems all but inevitable.

Kevan, now a freshman at Northwestern, said that approximately half the students in her grade, most 17 or 18 years old, made the trip this year, staying three or four to a room at Breezes, an all-inclusive resort in the Bahamas. "I think every person I knew from New York was in Nassau," she said. "Everyone who goes out in New York went to spring break."

She said they spent their days tanning, swimming and playing volleyball, and their nights dancing and drinking, of course in moderation. The only hospital visit she was able to recall involved not liquor but a volleyball-related injury that required stitches. "It's very easy to buy alcohol and purchase a fake ID in New York," she said. "People learned early on how to carry themselves."

Ross Stackhouse, a freshman at Brown who graduated from the Fieldston School in New York and also attended spring break in the Bahamas this year, said that friends who remained in New York probably drank at least as much as those who traveled to the Caribbean. In fact, he said, he found the vacation slightly disappointing.

"I didn't have a crazy time," he said. "I'd sort of gotten over that innate need to always fit in. I'd probably have been wiser to do something useful, like going skiing. It's an excuse for a bunch of horny high schoolers to get together and rub their bodies against each other for a week."

It's partly such descriptions and the specter of Natalee Holloway, the Alabama teenager who vanished in Aruba in 2005 -- on a school-sanctioned and supervised senior trip -- that sparked the letter to parents. "Young people cannot think clearly when alcohol is involved and your children are particularly vulnerable in such settings," the letter said. "We have heard enough disturbing and tragic stories of students being harmed on these trips."

Hutcheson of Nightingale-Bamford said the heads were not thinking of any specific incidents related to their own students when they wrote the letter. But the letter was a way of lending parents moral support. "I think it's helpful if parents have something they can lean on and say no," she said. "Parents need safety in numbers."

Alec Barrett, the president of the student body at Dalton, said that when the letter arrived at homes, his classmates were worried their parents would use it as an excuse to veto their vacation plans. "There was some concern this would make parents more attuned or vigilant than they have been in the past," he said.

But, he said, that does not seem to be the case, at least among his friends' parents. "This year there are people who just have this willingness to let their kids go," he said. "I don't think a letter is going to change these people's minds. But it will hopefully make some of those parents take precautions."

One increasingly popular precaution, as mortifying to the typical adolescent as it may sound, is for parents to tag along on spring break. Vickery said she is considering renting a house on the same island where her daughter and her friends are planning to spend their vacation. "I've thought, at least if we're on the island, there's somebody they can call."

At Bronxville High School in Bronxville, N.Y., traveling with your child to spring break in the Bahamas has actually become something of a tradition, with the parents staying at a nearby resort. Marty Murrer, who took the trip two years ago with his son, said that supervised spring break started several years ago after the youngsters proved inadequate at supervising themselves.

"They had had experiences where the kids went down and things got out of hand," he said. "Excessive drinking and behavior that was way beyond what was acceptable."

He and his wife socialized with about 20 of their own friends who traveled to the Caribbean with them. "In a community like Bronxville there's a lot of close relations among the parents," he said. "There's a lot of common values. It was a great time."

Hutcheson hopes the letter the schools sent out will prompt parents of city students to make similar arrangements. "Nobody's trying to be the Grinch who stole spring break," she said.

Virus sickens nearly 700 aboard cruise ship

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) -- A thorough scrubbing of the Carnival Liberty began Sunday as the ship docked after a virus sickened nearly 700 passengers on a trans-Atlantic cruise.

Fourteen guests and five crew remained ill and in isolation when the ship arrived at Port Everglades, according to a statement released by Carnival Cruise Lines, a brand of Carnival Corp. Some passengers were escorted off the ship in wheelchairs by crew wearing blue gloves.

Preliminary tests identified the source of the outbreak as the highly contagious norovirus, which had struck several guests just before they boarded the cruise November 3 in Rome, Carnival officials said. More than 530 guests and 140 crew reported to the ship's infirmary with similar symptoms during the 16-day voyage.
Passengers who fell ill during the cruise said they received over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medication and pills or an injection to ward off nausea in the ship's infirmary, and had been quarantined in their cabins.

"They brought us 7Up, bottled water, ice and a diet of rice, though you didn't feel like eating," said Jim Lankes, 48, of Phoenix. Lankes and his 45-year-old brother both got sick when the ship was docked in Barcelona, Spain.

Crews scrubbed the ship's handrails and utensils, offered disinfecting hand gel and halted the self-serve buffets after the outbreak started. Even plastic menus were wiped clean, said Pedro Carreras, 51, of McDonough, Georgia.

Most cruise activities and excursions continued as scheduled, passengers said, though the crew's illness disrupted some personal services.

"Our cabin steward was struck, and we didn't have anybody to clean our cabin for five days," said Pamela Stupnik of Pueblo, Colorado. She said she and her husband spent two days vomiting in their cabin.

A team from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention boarded the cruise when it docked in St. Maarten to oversee the cleaning operation and try to determine what caused the outbreak, Carnival said.

Norovirus is a group of viruses that cause stomach flu symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting and stomach cramps, according to the CDC. The illness usually lasts one to two days without any long-term health effects. It spreads through contaminated food or liquids, by touching contaminated surfaces or objects and then placing that hand in one's mouth, or through direct contact with someone who is infected and showing symptoms.

The Liberty, which has room for 2,974 travelers, had been scheduled to set sail again Sunday afternoon on a six-day Caribbean voyage, but Miami-based Carnival delayed its next departure until Tuesday so crews could have extra time to disinfect the ship.

Special Report: A Father's Determination

Meridian, Miss.
Wade Phillips

Eighteen months have not dulled the passion Dave Holloway has for finding out what happened to his daughter, Natalee. The Meridian businessman remains as committed as ever to solving the mystery.

After the fundraisers ended, after many of the yard signs have been pulled up, after the cable networks have stopped calling for interviews, there remains a father looking for his daughter.

"Some days you think you're going to finally break the case, and some days you wonder, are we ever going to find out?" said Holloway.

That is still Dave Holloway's story, a year and a half after his 18-year- old daughter went missing during her senior class trip to Aruba.

Newscenter 11 sat down with Holloway in his Meridian insurance office to talk about the case. He remains hopeful of a resolution.

Holloway says there have been developments in the case. They happened very quietly over the last few months.

The Dutch police have now taken over the investigation from Aruban authorities, a move Holloway believes should have been done months ago.

"I just hope they're going to be able to find some answers," Holloway said.

And the searches continue. Two months ago, Natalee's family sent a cadaver dog to search an Aruban golf course. Just last week, a team searched some government property on the island.

"You get tips or leads or someone says you need to search here, and you cannot just let it pass by," he said.

So far, nothing has come of any of those searches, but Holloway is not a man planning to give up any time soon.

"I don't think, as a parent, you'll ever give up and say I've done all I can do," Holloway said.

Holloway admits the searching has taken a financial toll on him. After an initial surge of fundraising in the weeks after Natalee's disappearance, there were several fundraisers. But now, he and the rest of Natalee's family are personally funding the searches.

I have just been told the we will be surprised what de Vries was able to uncover in a very short period of time that will shock us. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but we will have to wait 5 days to see. It was something I didn't know, and it is shocking. Will he be brave enough to put it in his show, I think so.

On 11-21 ARUBAAN's news-source "Amigoe.com" reported another ARUBA tourists safety issue:

1.4 to 2.3 percent HIV-positive cases in the Neth.Antilles

Limited availability aids inhibitors worrisome

WILLEMSTAD – From the report ‘Monitoring of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in the Netherlands 2006’ of the HIV Monitoring Foundation, it appears that the limited availability of aids inhibitors in Curacao is worrisome. Compared with the Netherlands, treatment of patients with the most desirable and well enduring HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy)-regime is being restricted.

This can lead to a less effective therapy and promotes resistance. According to the report, it is therefore very important for individual patients as well as the society in general that all the products to treat HIV are available in Curacao.

The clinical care in Curacao is comparable to that in the Netherlands, says the report.
It is the first time that the HIV Monitoring Foundation, together with the Red Cross Blood Bank and the St. Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos) has gathered data about HIV and aids, in Curacao. Most of the patients are men; for about 30 percent, homosexual contact turns out to be the most likely source of infection. Men that have sex with men still dominate the epidemic in the Netherlands: the source of infection in this country was for 50 percent of the new-infected cases, homosexual contact. For the research, 194 patients from the Sehos were compared with 849 infected Antillean, Aruban, or Surinamese natives in the Netherlands. In proportion, there are more HIV-positive people the Neth.Antilles than in the Netherlands; 1.4 to 2.3 percent in 2005 versus 0.2 percent in the Netherlands.

About one-third of the Antillean and Surinamese patients in the Netherlands have contracted their HIV-infection during a visit to their native country. “During their visit, many immigrants, especially men have heterosexual contacts with several partners, of which 50 percent of the cases without protection.

The conditions for further spreading are favourable, since compared to the average heterosexual population in the Netherlands, immigrants often change partners and in addition to one steady partner, they often have another one on the side.” According to the researchers, further research has to target the Dutch students on work placement in Curacao, as they can play an important part in the spreading of the virus.

The number of available medication for HAART in Curacao is limited. Compared with the Netherlands, treatment of patients with the most desirable and well enduring HAART -regime is being restricted. This can lead to a less effective therapy and promotes resistance.

Since the arrival of HAART ten years ago, the number of people that gets aids or dies from the disease is dropping. HIV-infected people live longer and in better health. But at the same time, the number of HIV-infections is increasing however. This can mostly be attributed to unsafe sex amongst homosexual men.

Treatment with HAART is successful. Many more people live longer and that’s the reason why the total number of HIV-infections is growing. This problem will possibly become more urgent in the next years, especially because the extent of the group treated people will grow in the Netherlands.

Besides with time, the resistance-import from the highly endemic territories like Africa and Asia will occur.

However, the transfer of resistance viral-tribes is still small; it’s a matter of infections with a resistant virus of about 8 percent of the new-infected persons. This proves a high effectiveness of the current generation aids-inhibitors with good therapy.

By order of the ministry of VWS, the HIV Monitoring Foundation in the AMC registered the HIV- and aids infections in the Netherlands, and researched the consequences, problems, and public health effects of the antiretroviral therapy. 23 Dutch treatment centers for HIV and aids take part in the foundation.

A report is being published every year around the World-Aids-Day on December 1st. In 2005, 950 new HIV-infected patients were registered in the Netherlands, about 300 more than in 1996. The total number of registered infections with the foundation is about 12.000. Very concerning is the relatively big number of patients that start too late with treatment; this increases the chance of failing. Especially the southern part of Africa is faced with this problem.

An important, costly lesson

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

BETH HOLLOWAY Twitty of Mountain Brook has succeeded in turning her daughter's apparent murder in a foreign country into a valuable public awareness campaign through her International Safe Travel Foundation.

Natalee Holloway, 18, disappeared on the final night of her high school senior trip to the Caribbean nation of Aruba more than a year ago. Investigators think she was raped and then murdered, but her body has never been found and Aruban authorities have failed to hold anyone accountable.

Mrs. Twitty, to her immeasurable credit, has risen beyond her grief to educate young people about the dangers of international travel.

During a recent speech to Samford University students, Mrs. Twitty stressed that young people have to remember that when people travel to foreign countries, they "leave behind the privileges and rights that we're accustomed to here in the U.S. and that we take for granted." She's right, and her message is a good one.

She isn't urging people not to travel to foreign countries. Her message is one of caution, not rejection. Mrs. Twitty sensibly told students that instead of avoiding the advantages of traveling to foreign nations, they should be proactive when traveling overseas, such as carrying emergency contact numbers of the U.S. government and becoming familiar with the laws of the countries they plan to visit.

It's shameful that Aruban law and the less-than-stellar performance of the country's authorities may have allowed Natalee Holloway's killers to escape justice. While Americans value fairness and the protection of individual rights, they also rightly expect that murderers will not go free.

Perhaps Aruban authorities will eventually punish those responsible for Natalee's murder. In the meantime, Mrs. Twitty is performing an important service by transforming her grief into an educational message.

If her crusade saves the life of even one young person traveling in a foreign country, her efforts will have been worthwhile.

Natalee Revisited

Dale Netherton
November 21, 2006

There is not a lot to be gained by simply reiterating the facts and the findings for those following the Natalee Holloway case. The inconsistencies and the obfuscations are common knowledge. There is nothing for the media to slather over and all those who had their moments of fame are now fading just as the fate of Natalee becomes conjecture and lament. But the question remains (as it did when the investigation was in full swing), what happened to Natalee?

No body or remains were ever discovered. Not a trace! You would think this would spur someone ( especially a loved one ) to review the situation and wonder if the fundamental premises and strategy of the investigation were flawed. But no one has and it looks like no one will. And what would motivate them to do so? The one thought that Natalee may be alive and in such a situation that she cannot communicate her plight. Can you imagine the frustration she would feel knowing she was not dead but being treated as if she were. It would be the equivalent of being buried alive, except it would be more prolonged and infinitely more discouraging and disappointing. Imagine every day wondering why someone doesn’t see you or recognize you and report your location to authorities. Imagine the hurt you would feel of being abandoned. Imagine she escaped and confronted the loved ones who gave her up for dead. And the question that would haunt them, “ Why did you think I was dead? You knew I was missing, but dead? Why? What evidence did you have that I had been killed or died? Why didn’t you look for me instead of my body?”

The authorities who had a part in this disappearance and the playboy that knows something pertinent, but won’t talk, have had the pressure relieved by the passage of time and the growing apathy that produces sighs of resignation. This lack of pressure brought on by following a false premise will only lead to others disappearing. Success in crime only leads to more crime. If for no other reason than prevention of future crimes should the case not be allowed to go dormant. But the real reason it shouldn’t is because there is a chance, slim as it might be, that Natalee is alive and hoping against all hope that she will be discovered and rescued. This is the hope of all missing persons. This is what our soldiers experienced in prisoner of war camps. No one knew if they were alive or dead but it was the perseverance of both captive and loved ones that made reunion possible. Natalee deserves no less. Wringing hands and tears will not discover her. Visualizing her dead will not rescue her. Simply hoping is not the equivalent of taking positive action.

The pieces of the puzzle do not fit and if no one is interested enough to portray the only way they will fit, the crime will go unsolved and a young girl will possibly perish needlessly. And think of the anguish experienced if in the future it was found out she lived for several years as a captive and was never found because no one looked for anything but a corpse. This is the scenario that cannot be reconciled or forgiven. And if there is any chance this is how this mystery will play out (and there is such a chance) why would anyone want to experience such misery?

As has been pointed out repeatedly in this column, problem solving techniques were poorly utilized in this investigation and a conclusion reached by erroneous premises. Yet the stalemate continues and no one that should be interested in correcting this has come forward and asked, “What if Natalee isn’t dead?” Doesn’t this strike you as strange? Millions have not given up on missing persons but in this case the trend is gridlocked with a finality that has not been proven. Eventually if Natalee is not dead there will be a time when all doubt and hope will disappear. But that is not now. Natalee was young and she deserves more than the preconceived notion she was killed. There is little chance this column will be slipped under her locked door but if the voices of outrage can squelch the conniving of O.J Simpson surely voices can be raised and demand justice and the recognition of the possible life of Natalee Holloway. For if it were you dear reader, ask yourself what response you would be most disappointed with if you were kidnapped and restrained. Given up for dead is no one’s dream.

On 11-23 the DUTCH TV journalist PETER DE VRIES website reported about its upcoming 11-26 investigative report about NATALEE HOLLOWAY‘s vanishing while in ARUBA:

The disappearance of Natalee Holloway on Aruba has grown into one of the biggest mysteries.

What happened that fatal night at the end of May 2005, and what did the justice department and the police do afterwards?

A remarkable report about lies, conflicts of interest, and highly sensitive police information.

The never before told secret on Aruba, this Sunday at 9 pm on Peter R. de Vries, crime reporter on “SBS6”

On 11-23 the “Scared Monkeys” blog reported:
(Thank You and Hat Tip to “igsigs”)

A Dutch poster on RU saw a de Vries interview tonight and...

"He said something about that this case can still be solved if they put together a group of about 10 to 12 special police officers on the case, he doesn't think Natalee ended up in the sea, so i'm curious to what he did found out.

He also said that not all of the lies came out. And he said there were a lot of things going on behind the scenes, a bit cryptic so could be a cliffhanger. About conflicts of interest etc.....(so that sounds a bit as i said before that he's also at least goes after the ALE and Justices on Aruba)...

On 11-23 the “Scared Monkeys” blog reported with respect to the previously claimed ARUBA “Deep Throat“ witness:

OK, can I clear up the Larry Garrison witness? I promise that the witness turned out to be FOS.... unfortunately I can't say anything else about it, but I promise y'all that I am telling the truth... the witness was just trying to cash in.....nothing more, nothing less....

Interesting; more references to the southwest, presumably Saventa. On a sad note, I understand there was a murder this morning in Aruba. All I have heard at this point is that the victim worked at a Valero Gas Station in North Aruba, near a gated community. I imagine there will be news coverage in the local papers tomorrow.

On 11-24 the PETER R. DE VRIES tv show reported:

In an extra long program of almost 80 minutes, Peter de Vries pays extended attention on Sunday to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, at the end of May 2005. He shows us alot of aspects of this mystery. De Vries investigated in the Netherlands and was recently in Aruba for a week researching. Peter R. de Vries has spoken with several people concerning the case.

Discussions have been conducted with a number of people confidentially and sometimes in secret, which have produced 6 new revealing facts according to SBS. In the program, it is shown that main suspect Joran van der Sloot has not only lied about the fact that he dropped Natalee off at the Holiday Inn hotel, but that there are more points in his declaration that are not correct.

Also, in the investigation of the disappearance, it has come to light the importance of a battle at the justice level between the chief public prosecutor and the Procurator-Natalee Holloway General on Aruba, a violent conflict concerning the matter. Also it is indicated that during the investigation, remarkable decisions were made and things gone wrong. The police force has meanwhile a new theory concerning what happened that night and particularly where it took place. One for example no longer believes that Joran left Natalee behind on the beach.

Again cases of dengue

ORANJESTAD – The Department for Infectious Diseases received the first two reports of dengue last Wednesday. These are the first reports of this rainy season. The department has not announced the region where the dengue was reported.

It is exactly one year ago that the last dengue breakout started. 1642 Cases of dengue were registered between October 2005 and February 2006. At first, the Public Health Department denied the possibility of an epidemic at that time.

In order to prevent a new breakout of dengue, the Department for Infectious Diseases calls on everybody to be alert on possible breeding places of the Aedes Aegyptii mosquito that causes dengue. This black mosquito with striped legs has an action radius of about 100 meters, which doesn’t mean that only the breeding places in one’s own yard have to be considered, but also in the near surroundings. “A coke bottle cap can already be a breeding place”, says Trevor van Gellecum of the Public Health Department. He therefore appeals to the population to keep the area around the house clean. “Prevention is the best way to avoid dengue.”

On 11-24 ARUBAAN's news-source “Amigoe.com” reported:

Minister Wever seriously ill

ORANJESTAD – After long speculations in the media about the health of Minister Candelario ‘Booshi’ Wever (MEP) of Public Health, Environment, and Immigration, the government has officially announced that the minister is diagnosed with prostate cancer. The minister is meanwhile undergoing chemo therapy. The tumor will be removed through surgery mid January. The cancer had not spread yet. The government announced that Wever will not sit with his arms crossed, but will go on with his life as much as possible. He nevertheless asks the nation for understanding; he currently needs to consider his health.

**NOTE** ARUBAN Prime Minister WEVER is rumored to be related to Current Murder Suspect GUIDO WEVER, and, was the man responsible for the operation of the ARUBA landfill that DAVE HOLLOWAY, his relatives, and “Texas EquuSearch” searched through in July and August 2005 looking for NATALEE’s body.

On 11-24 ARUBAAN's news-source “Amigoe.com” reported:

Wife Prime Minister witness in Lee-case

ORANJESTAD – Glenda Oduber, wife of Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (MEP) is called to witness in the matter of the reporting against Minister Ramon Lee. The national detective is currently investigating a reporting on sexual offence against the minister of Labour, Sport, and Culture. Oduber’s wife is interrogated because before the reporting, the supposed victim had telephoned her about what happened. “Hundreds of people call here every day with all sorts of storeys. We cannot check everything whether they are true or not. That would mean that we are in court every day or called to witness”, was the premier’s comment on the witness call.

Oduber says that they received the call to witness via fax around 16:30 on Thursday. Several newspapers reported this the next day already, which is very strange. “Only we and the Public prosecutor are supposed to know about the call”, said Oduber. His opinion is that all the parties have to be careful and reserved about the case. “It’s a very sensitive matter and I regret the way everything is now in the media. I also regret the fact that I had to hear the woman cry again telling her story on several radio stations today (Friday, editor).”

He therefore hopes that the OM will soon have a definite answer on the legal actions and on what had happened exactly. It’s not right for the government and definitely not for his wife. He does not understand why his wife was called by the National detectives. “This is a small community and everybody has stories. Since I receive a lot of calls, my wife has become kind of a secretary at home. She hears so many things, but she cannot determine what is true and what is not. Why didn’t the woman go straight to the police instead of calling my house? Only somebody that has seen what happened or that knows the details can be considered a witness. And that’s not my wife.”

A lot of rehap, much of the Monkeys/BFN Proces Verbaal on screen.

De Vries going to the vd Sloots home and the Kalpoes home and not finding anybody at home. Surprise, surprise.

Natalee did drink a lot and did do drugs ( cocaine ) regarding witnesses/roommates

(Rotterdam ) Paul van der Sloot said in a phone conversation with Peter de Vries that they had a lot to tell but they will not do that just now because of people involved who could be hurt by this information

(Rotterdam ) Anita wrote a e mail to Peter de Vries that he came to their door in Aruba and to Joran's house in Arnhem and she is going to inform police, the board of journalist in the Netherlands and the CEO of SBS6 ( broad coasting company of Peter's programme ) with complains . I think Mr. Peter forgets that the van der Sloots have had the Nancy Grace's,Greta van Susteren's,Geraldo's of this world at their doorstep for almost 16 months and they are fed up. From BFN:

(Mitral)
The show is called The secret of Aruba
Short introduction, chronical events, Excelsior Casino, C&C

Video of the black jack table and of the Honda leaving with NH.

He is about to analyze the May 9, 2005 statements of all 3 of them. The lies were deliberate and well prepared, this according to his often experienced "lyers logic" a sign that they know more and had to lie.

Until so far, there is a commercial now. Most of the time it is a reconstruction with actors.

(Mitral)
It goes too fast to write it down quickly, a lot statements are quoted in big letters. The police and justice department assume now that the beach story was invented and that the crime scene could be JVDS cottage.

Her roommate has declared to the police N. was often drunk and needed to be escorted to her room. Note: this is an offical statement to the police, not from JVDS.

Scenario one:
NH was drunk and under the influence of drugs. Her death was a result of that and Joran paniced and asked his father for help.

(Mitral)
Conflicting statements of D and J are apparent. offical investigation in Holland points at Deepak telling the truth. Later on J lies in Nova and says Satish picked him up, also the story about D and the dogs. Lies and more lies.

(Mitral) Peter shows a photo of Natalee and Joran together in HER home in Alabama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?

(Mitral)
Most important fact of this 3rd part: Peter´s confrontation with lawyer CARLO. Peter has a secret tip that Carlo asked JANSSEN for a private meeting because he wanted to get a clear conscience. It is said he pointed towards Joran, but told Janssen that Justice Dep had to get all the evidence. JANSSEN has later on written him a letter to persuede him to tell more. Peter visits Carlo with a secret camera and he shows to be very uncomforable.

After the break Peter will visit Joran in Holland, to show him the picture of N and J together in her home in the US.

(Mitral) Peter discovers an order to hakers-rule@hotmail.com to phtochop the picture. It costs 200 euro. Kees D, the chopper, sends cofirmation to J. Sloot@gmail.com. So Joran has asked for photochopping while he a suspect himself?

Peter confronts Joran but he doesn´t want to talk and calls the police.
Letter written to Paul stays unanswered.

(Mitral)
For me, at first look, teh most important points:
1) Conflicting statements Deepak and Joran. Deepak´s lawyer confirms this to Peter and Peter comes with offical sms and chat reports. Story about picking up from the beach can´t be true.
2)Fight between Karin Janssen en Kroes-Vernandez. Janssen did not act fast enough according to K. Later on Janssen orders search house search but when the police rings the bell, mr. Ben King opens (right hand of Kroes and personal friend of Paul). Mr. Bob de Wit "rechter-commissaris" only allows limited search, J´s cottage, not the main house and property. Why did he go against Janssen?
3)Mr. Carlo asks Janssen for private talk to clear his conscience. Secret tip says he points at J. but tells Janssen the justice department needs to find the evidence on its own. Later on Janssen asks about more information when the case is stuck. Carlo responds but nobody knows what he wrote. When Peter confronts him the hidden camera shows uncomforatbility and he denies. When Peter confronts Janssen with it she says she won´t comment because "Carlo denies his statement now" (what would be the analysis of this statement of her)

(Mitral).
4) Karin Janssen seems to have manipulated the Opsproing Verzocht by wanting it to be a wide program, not only focused on J and 2K. Opsp Verzocht editors say they are frustrated because 2 questions were not allowed to be asked in the program 1)where are the shoes 2)how did Joran get home.
5) Janssen doesn´t want to talk with Peter and doesn´t answer all his question in his 6 page letter to her.

(Mitral).
6)In october 2005 Joran ask computer shop to delete all his files without back up. This happens and no files are left behind.
7)Manipulated photo is probably chopped by Kees D. hakers-rule@hotmail.com for 200 euro. Email about it sent to J.Sloot@g.mail.com
Peter confronts Joran, but he refuses to mtalk and calls the police.
9)Paul refuses to answer a leter but Anita writes to Peter that she will complain to the director of SBS 6, and 2 other thinsg I can´t recall now but Ramm probably will.

(Rammstein )
1. at first the show starts with it's version of the facts (gained from the police files)

2. the show paints a picture of the lies told in the story and says that often liars who know a victim will not be able to contradict the lies are common in criminal cases

3. the show talks about the shoes, that Joran lied about his shoe size and that the police suspects he made the shoes disappear in case Natalee is found. His footprints at the burial site can never be traced to his shoes when they are gone

4. the show shows an American witness report in which it says that Natalee was highly drunk the night before she went missing and had to be carried/helped to her room because she was so drunk she was unable to walk. the show also says this witness statement shows that on the day of her disappearance she had been drinking alcohol from 10am and hadn't stopped until she left C&C's

5. the show wonders why Bob Witt refused a full search warrant

6. the show wonders why Ben King, someone who worked for Fernanda Croes (the Prosecutor general opened the door)

7. the show says that lawyer Ben Carlo made an damning statement to DA Janssen implicating Joran in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway (something he later denies when asked to provide more information by Janssen)

8. the police felt it like a vote of no confidence when PG Fernanda Croes started sitting in on police-briefings in the case

9. that PG Croes had wanted to fire Janssen but was told she wasn't allowed on ministerial level (Aruban ministerial level)

10. that the photo-shopped picture was created for 200 dollars/euros on the request of a friend of Joran (according to the show)

11. that Natalee had been in possession of cocain and had used cocain on the trip

12. that Joran once shouted:

"I know what you are thinking, you think Natalee is dead and that me and my father made the body disappear"

and

"I don't know where she is buried"

more to follow after I compose my thoughts

(Rammstein )
13. Janssen asked for a full search of the property, Bob Witt decided at the scene not to allow it

14. a big mistake by Peter R. de Vries. He said that the police were surprised to find Ben King opening the door to the van der Sloot house on June 23rd 2005 instead of Joran or Paul when they came to search the house.

Note for Peter R. de Vries, on the 23rd of June both were arrested and thus unable to answer the door
(Paul was arrested on the 22nd or perhaps early on the 23rd)

15. better translation of words of Joran on June 18th, captured on video, not in interrogation files:

"I know what you are thinking. You think I had sex with Natalee and that I called my dad, that he came and that we made the body disappear"

"I don't know where ...... (the body or Natalee, cannot remember" is buried"

16. the police have 2 witnesses Natalee had cocain and offered someone else a line of coke

17. retraction of mine:

Natalee was not so drunk she had to be carried to her room the day before she went missing, she was however so drunk she had to be escorted to her room

18. Natalee's daily routine on the island was to start drinking at around 10am and go to the beach (and keep drinking)

19. the DA's office decided to keep the scope of the Opsporing verzocht episode as wide as possible

20. Peter R. de Vries does not believe Joran's story about his shoes

(Rammstein )
21. the police think it likely that Natalee died of a self-inflicted overdose of drugs and alcohol while in Joran's appartment during the act of having sex with Joran

22. the police do not believe they ever went to the beach

23. the role of van der Straten was totally unmentioned

24. the role of politicians were unmentioned

25. Joran's dutch computer (the one he had in the Netherlands, not the Aruban one of his parents as far as I have understood the story) was professionally "brought back to factory specs". Read into that what you want because that is what Peter R. de Vries implied (could be incriminating evidence but could also be a virus or cleaning off the illegal porn that he must have downloaded, those are some of the possibilities at least)

26. Joran called the police on Peter R. de Vries

27. Peter R. de Vries wrote a letter with a lot of questions, some were answered by DA Janssen others weren't. Fernanda Croes gave even less of a statement about the questions asked by Peter R. de Vries

28. Carlo (Joran's lawyer) seems to have amnesia because he cannot remember well known facts from the file, claiming he has not been working on the file for a long time but busy with other cases

29. the police believe Joran is involved in Natalee's disappearance

30. the lawyer for the Kalpoes says that Joran is a good actor, he can break into tears and give off statements that appear credible (although he is a big fat liar)

31. Peter R. de Vries does not believe Deepak came and pick up Joran

32. Peter R. de Vries does not actually make the case that there is evidence to prove Joran did something but that a lot of blunders and mistakes have been made, that there had been conflicts of interest but he at no time uses the words corruption or cover-up

33. says the difficulty in the interview on the 18th and the not asking further when Joran finally seemed to snap is because of the language issue, Joran having to be questioned in dutch instead of papiamentu, because of the specialist interviewers of the dutch police

34. Peter R. de Vries received an email from mrs. van der Sloot in which she said they had taken police-action, written a complaint to the review-board journalism and a letter to the head of SBS broadcasting

(Mitral)
. I tend to believe now Natalee found her unintentional death in the presence of Joran. He covered it up and the rest had to be a cover up at judicial and police level as well. This is where Peter points to. There are still many questions, e.g. what about American report with witness statement of her roommate that she was drunk and probably stoned? Peter brings this as being official. Many more questions about Janssen, Carlo, King, Kroes etc.

I hope the pressure will become unbearable to the one who was involved here.
(Mitral) The pressure must be on Ben Carlo. We need to know what he told Janssen to clear his conscience.

From RU:

(Daniel )
De Vries showed an e-mail in which a friend of Joran asked someone else to make this fake photo for $200. For what purpose is anyone's guess.

From SM Front Page:

The show just ended..really good..lots of new things..Joran will not like this..But Peter r de vries is right..corruption big time…
Jorans Lawyer went to Karin Jansen en told her that he can’t handle it no more and that Joran is guilty..

“Freedom of Blog” identity “mtrules” reported:

The program started with the reason why Natalee went to Aruba. The night before her disappearance Natalee started drinking alcohol at 10 am in the morning and had to be carried back to her hotel room at night by her roommates/friends. On the night Natalee disappeared Joran and Paul (Joran´s father) were playing blackjack at the Excelsior Casino near the Holiday Inn hotel. When Paul left Joran asked him if he could pick him up at 11 pm at the MacDonald’s Palm Beach. He then went to the blackjack table where Natalee and her friends were playing. Joran helped the girls with the game/bets and they agreed to meet each other later that night at Carlos & Charlies (a popular club on Aruba). Joran went to the MacDonald’s at Palm Beach where his dad picked him up as planned. Joran called Deepak and asked him if he wanted to go to Carlos & Charlies that night. Deepak agreed and picked Joran up at his house. Deepak´s brother Satish also went with them to Carlos & Charlies. When they got inside Natalee was already there and was dancing on the podium. Natalee asked Joran if he wanted to dance with her but he first went to the bar to get some drinks. According to Joran Natalee was a little tipsy at the time. After a while Natalee started dancing on the bar and Joran had some belly shots from Natalee. When Joran and his friends left Natalee went with them. According to Joran Natalee was very tipsy at that time. Deepak was already waiting for them at his car. When Joran, Satish and Natalee got in her roommates/friends asked her not to go with them. She refused and said she really wanted to go with these guys. Deepak drove his silver Honda Civic, his brother sat next to him and Natalee and Joran where making out in the back.

First lie

The guys supposedly dropped Natalee off at her hotel (Holiday Inn). In the car Natalee asked Joran if Satish and Deepak are his slaves. Natalee said her family had slaves in the past and that her mother was Hitler’s sister. On the way Natalee also fell half asleep every time. She wanted to go to the lighthouse to she sharks but when they got there she suddenly woke up and wanted to go back to the hotel. They drove back to the hotel and dropped her off at the main entrance. According to Joran Natalee fell on the ground when she got out of the car and when he tried to help her back up she said: `don’t touch me´. According to Deepak a dark-skinned man in the lobby came up to Natalee. He had a radio in his left hand. Satish had almost the same story.

One day after the statements given by the three guys it all pointed out to be false. There was no sign of Natalee or Deepak´s car on the video cameras at the main entrance and the security guards who were on duty that night hadn’t seen anything either. Satish and Deepak first admitted they lied and Joran told the police the same shortly after. Joran told Nova (Dutch Television Program) that they where scared and thought that they would get away with this story. According to Peter R. de Vries this lie was carefully planned out because the three statements where almost the same. De Vries also said that if they were really innocent they wouldn’t have to lie.

Second lie

Deepak and Satish dropped Joran and Natalee of at the Marriott hotel (which is next to the Holiday Inn). Deepak and Satish went home and Joran and Natalee walked towards the sea.

Joran:

Because Joran got sand in his shoes he left them on the beach. They kissed on the beach and walked to Natalie’s hotel room. However, Natalee didn’t want to go back to her room, she wanted to go to the opposite direction. They walked back to the Marriott hotel and they sat down there and kissed each other. Natalee wanted to walk a little further so they walked to the Fisherman’s huts. Joran left his shoes at the Marriott. They had dry sex: Natalee sat on him and pretended having sex with him. She also masturbated Joran and Joran masturbated her. After half an hour Joran told Natalee had to go back to her hotel but again she refused. Joran started carrying her but Natalee told him to put her down. Joran did so and called Deepak to come pick him up. He told Deepak: ‘Natalee doesn’t want to listen, come pick me up, she’s sleeping’. In the car Joran told Deepak that the girl was annoying. Deepak asked him if he had sex with her but Joran said no because he didn’t have a condom. Deepak says that he will pick up Joran’s shoes the next day. According to Peter R. de Vries Deepak denied this which implies that their statements are different. Deepak also told Joran: ‘Don’t fuck with that bitch, they will find her tomorrow’.

Deepak and Satish:

After dropping Joran and Natalee of at the Marriott Satish and Deepak returned home. Satish went to bed and Deepak watched television and turned on the computer. As always Deepak waits for ‘a sign of life’ from Joran. After a while Joran calls Deepak and tells him he’s walking to his house (without his shoes) and that he left Natalee on the beach. According to Joran they went in the water for a while and Natalee is sleeping on the beach. Deepak asks him to call him when he’s home. After a while Joran sends Deepak a message on his cellular that he will come on MSN Messenger instead. Deepak goes to the bathroom and when he returned he saw that Joran had been online and had said: ‘Thanks for waiting, I’m home now’. Joran was offline again at the time Deepak read this.

The facts

Computer/cellular information:

3.15 am: Message from Joran to Deepak: ‘I’m home, see you tomorrow’.
3.23 am: Message from Deepak to Joran: ‘Anyway, I’m glad your home, I’m going to bed’
3.33 am: A short message-reply from Joran to Deepak
Joran stays on his computer till 4.30 am and visits several porn-sites.

*This is less than half of the program, I will post the rest tomorrow.*

Other statements

Some months later Joran told Nova (Dutch Television) that Satish picked him up on the beach.
Another story Joran told the police was that he called Deepak, who then came with two dogs and raped and murdered Natalee. According to Joran he buried her at the Fisherman’s Huts. Deepak told the police the opposite, he said Joran didn’t kill Natalee but only raped her. When the police asked him for more information he simply replied with: ‘you’ll have to ask Joran, he’s a sick person’.

Joran’s shoes

When De Vries first heard about the story of the lost shoes of Joran he could imagine Joran didn’t find his shoes back. However, now that De Vries walked on the beach where Joran supposedly lost his shoes he thought it was really unlikely because the beach was so narrow and so close to the Fisherman’s Huts (were Joran was picked up later that night without his shoes). De Vries expressed Joran could pick up his shoes very easily within a minute.

But then where are Joran’s shoes now?

The Aruban police doesn’t believe Joran lost his shoes on the beach. Instead, they think Joran lost his shoes on purpose, not because there are traces of blood on them (which is suggested in the media) but because there would be an imprint of his shoes on Natalee. Without his shoes there wouldn’t be any evidence of the fact that the footprint on Natalee is his. When questioned Joran told the police he had shoe-size 14. However, when the police measured his feet he turned out to have size 10.

Other scenario

The Aruban police think Joran and Natalee didn’t go to the beach at all. Instead they think they went to Joran’s house. One reason why they focus on this scenario is because in one statement Joran told police that they were at his house at 1.40 am. However, they didn’t got out of the car but continued driving almost immediately. There is one more reason why the police think this scenario is more likely: a group of fisherman’s were fishing all night long near the fisherman’s huts but hadn’t seen anyone there.

Violent

Peter R. de Vries expresses the fact that Joran had been treated by a psychologist for violent behaviour against his brother. A friend of Joran also said Joran threw a wanderer in the water during carnival.

Incident

Joran told police Natalee asked him if he wanted to use some cocaine. Also came to light that Natalee used a lot of alcohol during her stay on Aruba. The night before her disappearance Natalee started drinking at 10 am and had to be carried back to her room by her roommates/friends that night. De Vries thinks it’s possible that the death of Natalee could’ve been an incident. According to him Natalee could’ve succumbed under the influence of drugs and/or too much alcohol.

The van der Sloot home

In this part of the program de Vries went to the house where Joran’s parents still live. Because no one is home he will try again later.

[Commercial break]

The Kalpoe home

In this part of the program de Vries went to the house where Deepak and Satish live. Deepak came to the door and told de Vries he doesn’t want to talk to him and that he has to go to his lawyer.

Deepak’s lawyer

Deepak’s lawyer tells de Vries that Joran first accuses Deepak of the disappearance of Natalee and then (when it’s proven that this isn’t the case) he accuses Deepak’s brother Satish. He did the same thing with the story about who picked him up on the beach at the night of Natalee’s disappearance. He also thinks Joran didn’t leave his shoes on the beach but lost them on purpose. He strengthens his arguments by adding that Joran was a very good actor in court where he cried several times followed by some very convincing moments.

Paul van der Sloot’s role

Peter says Joran could be innocent, otherwise he would’ve succumbed under pressure of the interrogations. However, the Aruban police think differently. They think Joran is a liar and got a lot of help from his dad: Paul van der Sloot. According to the program Joran’s dad could get a lot of investigation results because he worked at the tribunal at the time. He then passed on the information to Joran. This couldn’t be stopped because Joran was still underage and could be visited every day.

Peter de Vries Exchange at Prime Murder Suspect Joran van der Sloot's apartment in Holland

In the de VRIES November 26, 2006 documentary report segment that starts with de VRIES and his assistant going to the entrance of the student flat where Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT lives on the second floor, De VRIES is seen first ringing the doorbell, then an unknown person answers the door, then, de VRIES asks to speak with Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT , and the unknown person shouts for him.

UNKNOWN FRIEND OF PRIME MURDER SUSPECT JORAN VAN DER SLOOT : He has no interest in talking to you.

de VRIES: Well, can I hear it from himself?

UNKNOWN FRIEND: Yeah.

(then he shouts to Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT )

Joran, do you want to talk with them?

( Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT comes downstairs to the door entrance)

JORAN van der SLOOT, PRIME MURDER SUSPECT: I don't have to appear, but if you don't leave, I will call the police.

de VRIES: Well, you can call the police, but I wanted to talk to you.

PRIME MURDER SUSPECT van der SLOOT: (van der SLOOT chooses to leave the door entrance, and he, apparently, goes upstairs and says,): I will call the police now.

de VRIES: Don't be so childish, man!
Come downstairs, as a man, and talk a few minutes with us.
What is this now?

UNKNOWN FRIENDS: Well, it's his choice. Why don't you do the normal?--send a letter.

de VRIES: Well, I wanted to talk with him.

(shouting to ( Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT )

Why do you act like that Joran? Why do you want the police to be present?

(Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT soon appears, again, at the door)

PRIME MURDER SUSPECT van der SLOOT: Because you are not welcomed here.

de VRIES: But I just want to ask you some questions.

PRIME MURDER SUSPECT van der SLOOT: But I don't have to speak with you.

de VRIES: No, you [don’t] have to anything, but I want to ask you some questions.

What does this picture tell you?

(de VRIES shows Prime Murder Suspect van der SLOOT the fake picture of NATALEE taken on New Years Eve 2004 in ALABAMA that someone had edited into the photo the image of Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT with NATALEE)

PRIME MURDER SUSPECT van der SLOOT: I don't have to talk with you.

de VRIES: Did you let them make this?

PRIME MURDER SUSPECT van der SLOOT: It's absolutely not so. I don't have to talk to you. The police is on their way.

de VRIES: Yeah? Since when are you so excited with [interacting with] the police? I thought you...

(Then, while seen sitting at a desk, de VRIES provides the following commentary)

de VRIES: Yeah, if you know you will get some annoying questions from me, you should have not appeared in front of me. In that term, Joran might have learned very well from his earlier unmasked lies.

(De VRIES also criticizes the fact that Former Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT did not answer a fax that de VRIES sent him with questions.
One of the questions was about his relationship with the DUTCH judge, BOB WIT, that de VRIES said limited the search at the Murder Suspects VAN DER SLOOT’s entire property to only Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT ‘s apartment)

Then de Vries ended with: " ‘No comment,’ is also a comment."

On 11-26 the DUTCH news sourced “De Telegraaf” reported:

'Onderzoek zaak-Holloway gefrustreerd'

'Justitie frustreerde onderzoek Holloway'

maandag 27 november 2006 08:40

Hi,
Are you aware of the broadcast of famous Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries yesterday, about the Holloway-case? It seems like the local Aruban authorities did frustrate the investigation up to the point, where the detectives were NOT allowed to search the house of the van der Sloots. They did search the small detached house where Joran lived, but they never searched the house of his father.
Isn't it likely that the body of Natalee Holloway could be found, for example, under the floor of this house? No authorities in Aruba were ever allowed to do a forensic investigation there.
I think it's worth watching the Peter R de Vries broadcast, it sheds whole new light on the Aruban investigation and the strange role Dutch magistrates (personal friends of Mr. van der Sloot) played in it.
My guess is Natalee's body can be found in the house of Joran's parents, the only place in Aruba nobody ever took a closer look at, or were prevented from doing so.

The first picture has to be used. And the guy in the second, third, fourth, or fifth has to be placed in the first picture ( You can choose which one is the easiest to use) The best would be if this one would be pasted onto that girl ( so that that girl who`s standing on the left in the first pic is not seen anymore, if that isn`t really possible, than you have to put this guy just over her)
If that looks believable, and they buy it,than i will make sure you`ll get €200,-- from Kees.
If it isn`t possible, than we can let this guy make a picture that he fits in excactly,
but we don`t have a lot of time.

Manifestation against bbo

There were big demonstrations against the increase of the import tax in June of this year; nevertheless, the government still introduced the increase. Foto: Elsbeth Bakker

ORANJESTAD – The action group Comicion di protesta NO contra Sales Tax will demonstrate against the sales tax (bbo) this coming Thursday. Police-inspector Marlon Pieters that speaks on behalf of the action group hopes for a peaceful manifestation, but loud enough to give the government the message that the bbo cannot be introduced in this manner. He calls on everybody to take part in the manifestation. He wants every participant to dress in black. Whether you are yellow, green, blue, or purple, everybody will feel the bbo in his/her wallet.

The protest group started with a petition in October. According to Pieters, more than 10.000 people have signed the pamphlet, which is going to be given to the government during the manifestation. The group hopes that the prime minister or the responsible finance-minister Nilo Swaen would accept the pamphlet with the signatures.

The action group is busy organizing the demonstration, for which they do not have a permit yet. All the unions and employers’ organization will receive letters, in which the action group asks them for their support on Thursday and allow the employees some time off to walk in the manifestation. The plan is to gather at the Juliana School at 15:00 and from there walk to the government’s office. Pieters has asked his colleagues to keep an extra look-out. Demonstrators can yell slogans, but the manifestation itself has to remain passively.

Pieters expects a huge turnout, also because almost all the people that have signed the pamphlet had indicated that they will take part in the manifestation. “But even if only 50 people show up, we will walk to the government’s office. We know that the government will still introduce the bbo, whether we demonstrate or not. We want to show them that we do not agree with everything they do.”

Confrontation between Nicolaas and Adriaens

KRALENDIJK – Parliament-member Maurice Adriaens (FOL) criticizing the Dutch judges in the Neth.Antilles caused heavy discussions with his colleague from Bonaire, Anthony Nicolaas (UPB). Nicolas had stepped into the breach for the current magistrate.

Reason for this confrontation was the handling of the national budget for 2007 in the Central Committee of the Parliament of the Neth.Antilles last Tuesday. The discussion started after Adriaens criticized the Joint Court of Justice for the renting of Fort Orange in Bonaire. Adriaens is of the opinion that the rent for Fort Orange is too high and that the Antillean government should find another, much cheaper building. He used the situation to fiercely criticize the Dutch judges in the Neth.Antilles.

Nicolaas regretted the attack on the Dutch judges. “The Dutch judges are here, because we do not have sufficient Antillean judges. They are here to help us, and we criticize them”, said Nicolaas. His opinion was that instead of attacking them, we should cheer and thank them. Adriaens felt tackled and told Nicolaas that he should have stayed in his hotel room, if he had nothing to say. Nicolaas then threatened Adriaens to stop being so offenseful, otherwise he’ll have to deal with him.

Dutch TV Show Exposes Shocking New Details in Holloway Case
(((FOX News TV screen scroll)))

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: Good evening. Tonight, a Natalee Holloway “bombshell.”
Did Joran van der Sloot--a prime suspect--actually play a big part in Natalee’s disappearance, and, did his lawyer know about it?
A Dutch TV show claims to expose some never-before-seen-or-heard information.
Earlier we spoke with Peter de Vries, crime reporter in Holland who conducted the investigation for the show.
What do you think is the single, biggest thing that surprised you about this investigation?

PETER R. de VRIES, CRIME INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Well, one of the biggest things is that we found out that Joran's lawyer, Mr. Antonio Carlo, paid a secret visit to the head prosecutor, Karin Janssen, because he wanted to “clear his conscience”--that is what he said.
This is strange, because according to the Dutch Law and rules, it is highly unusual for lawyers and public prosecutors to meet during an investigation. It’s not done. But Mr. Carlo insisted to have a talk with the head prosecutor, and then, well, he said, “Okay. Come along to my office, and then we have a talk.”
And when he went there, they had that talk, and then he said, “Well, I want you to know that my client, Joran van der Sloot, played a major part in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.”
And then he stated, “that it was, of course, up to the police to get the full proof for this,” but that's what he said.
And later--months later--the head prosecutor wrote him a letter, and asked the lawyer to give more details about what he had said, and then the lawyer got scared at that moment because he was thinking, he supposed that it was a “top secret” meeting in the past, and now it was, certainly, on paper, so, he wrote a letter back and said, “No, I think you must have misunderstood me,” and he denied everything.

VAN SUSTEREN: When was this meeting between Joran van der Sloot’s lawyer and the prosecutor? Now, Natalee, of course, disappeared at the end of May of 2005. When, in relationship to the disappearance, did this meeting…?

de VRIES: It was very short after his arrest--in June 2005.

VAN SUSTEREN: Did you confront Joran van der Sloot’s lawyer about this and say, “Did this happen?”

de VRIES: Yes, I went to his office when I was at Aruba, and with a candid camera with me, and then he admitted that he had a meeting with the head prosecutor and that they wrote letters to each other. He was very confused.
He was in panic when I told him what I knew.
I also wrote a letter to the head prosecutor, and she also admits that there was a meeting, and that there is now a disagree about what happened then.

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you know, Peter, is there some rule that prevents Karin Janssen, the prosecutor, from talking to the public, or, at least, revealing some information to sort of get some of the mystery out of the investigation?

de VRIES: In Holland it is, absolutely, not done for a lawyer to talk to a prosecutor during an investigation. It is not allowed.

VAN SUSTEREN: What about the search of the van der Sloot property? Was that ever done, and was, you know--including, sort of, the cabana area where Joran lives?

de VRIES: Well, the search in the home address of the family van der Sloot was very strange because the search warrant was made by head prosecutor Karin Janssen, and contained an allowance to search the whole address, “Montanja nineteen.”
So, the gardens, the buildings--everything.
But, when the police was on the spot, another high-ranking employee of the Justice office--it was Mr. Bob Witt--reduced the search warrant to only the room of Joran--and that was very strange.
The police was extremely frustrated about this because they had some clues that something might have happened to Natalee elsewhere in the garden, or, in the house of the parents because Joran admits that he had been with Natalee, and Deepak, and Satish at the home of his parents.

VAN SUSTEREN: You know, many Americans, when they think of this investigation, they think, “Corruption.”
In your investigation journalism did you find any evidence to support a--support the suspicion that there was--that there’s corruption within the investigation--whether it be at the police level, or the government level, or, any, at all?

de VRIES: Well, “Corruption” is a very “heavy” word, I think.
What--what I think is that, “it's a small island.“ Everybody knows each other--that's the--that’s the problem.
When the police arrive at the van der Sloot's home for the--for the search, to their surprise the door was not opened by father or mother van der Sloot, but a--a--a--a--a close friend of them, and, the close friend is a--a--somebody who works for the Justice Department at Aruba--so, that’s strange.
The police was amazed; “What is he doing here?“
And then he told them, “Yeah, I am a very good friend of the family, and I want to support them in these--in these--in these ‘hard times,’” so, you get the impression everybody is knowing each other, and helping each other, and, yeah, well,--that's not good for a fair investigation, I think.

VAN SUSTEREN: Peter, I've been very hard or aggressive in my words towards Karin Janssen, the prosecutor. Maybe, in part, she can’t talk, as you noted earlier, because of the rules there, but do you have the--from your investigation, are you satisfied she has done everything she should, and should have been done to try to solve this disappearance?

de VRIES: No, no, no, I'm not. [satisfied]
I think the Justice Department could have done a lot more, and I think it's, still, not too late to solve this--this crime.
They make mistakes.
They didn't do things they should have done, and that‘s a--that’s a pity.

VAN SUSTEREN: Did your investigation establish, with any level of certainty, whether Natalee even made it to the beach that night?

de VRIES: No.
What I figured out is that the police is thinking at this moment that Natalee hasn't been on the beach that night, at all, and that somewhere else something might have happened, but not on the beach.
They don’t believe the story, any more.

VAN SUSTEREN: Do they still focus simply on Joran, Satish, and Deepak, or, are they still keeping, you know, keeping the possibility open that it‘s, you know, that there's some other explanation--somebody else “got to“ Natalee?

de VRIES: No, no, no.
The police are still focused on Joran van der Sloot, and Deepak, and Satish--There is no doubt about that.

VAN SUSTEREN: There is no indication that progress has been made on the investigation, and now, the stunning assertion that Joran’s lawyer talked to the prosecutor to “clear his conscience.”
Joining us live from Alabama is Beth Holloway-Twitty. Nice to see you, Beth.

BETH HOLLOWAY-TWITTY, NATALEE’S MOTHER: Hi Greta.

VAN SUSTEREN: Beth, let’s start first with the thought--what Peter de Vries, the Dutch investigative reporter has to say about Joran's lawyer. What do you think about that?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Well, I mean, the report clearly shows all the frustrations we have been dealing with for 18 months, Greta, and, you know, the meeting that Antonio Carlo had with Karin Janssen, and, you know, it’s just a--it just gives us affirmation what we’ve known this, all along, that there was collusion involved, with all of the personnel there.

VAN SUSTEREN: Peter says--and I suppose if there is any sort of “light at the end of the tunnel“--is that he doesn’t think it’s too late to solve this, and find out, you know, what happened to Natalee. Do you think it’s too late, or, do you still have “fire in your belly” to, you know, find out what happened and believe it can be?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Well, I think now we have the names and faces of the people who were obstructing justice--who were derailing an investigation--and who were protecting suspects--and now it's time to depose these individuals. They need to go get Bob de Witt--Bob Witt--and these are the personnel working in the Justice Department, and they are the ones who have--evidently, they have information as to what happened, or they would not have been, you know, outlining and planning the execution of the derailment of the investigation.

VAN SUSTEREN: And you’ve named names that, apparently, if one could see the entire--and even understand Dutch--the entire Dutch television show raised some names, and asked some questions about, you know, difficulties they are having in the prosecutions office.
Karin Janssen, the prosecutor--have you heard from her? Have you--has she asked you for any information? Has she given you any sign, whatsoever, that she is working this case?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: No. Zero Greta. Absolutely zero. Nothing.

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you hear anything, at all, from anyone in Aruba?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: No. Not anything, and you know that was just--we were just so fortunate to make that move to Amsterdam, and for Peter de Vries to pick up on “Scared Monkeys.com,” and delve into the [suspects] statements because otherwise, you know, we would not, even now, finally, find out the persons who were involved, like I said, in derailing the investigation.

VAN SUSTEREN: Peter said in his--when I talked to him--he said that the police think that Natalee never made it to the beach that night. What’s--What do you think about that? I mean, that had been, sort of, the “working police theory”--that she had been down to the beach with them.

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Well, you know, that was--there were 4 different versions of how Joran told the police of how he got home from he beach that night, so, I think we were--we were really suspicious of that early on--that was one of the “red flags,” and Mr. de Vries did pick up on.
You do not have 4 different versions of how you had gotten home from the beach that night.

VAN SUSTEREN: So, where--where do you go from here? I mean, what do you do, Beth? You've spent an awful lot of time down there.
You know, there has not been any information, whatsoever--I mean--not even just a “little” information--there’s been “no” information.
What are you going to do?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: I think the first person that they need to start with are these personnel that work in the Aruban Justice Department that are responsible for the derailing of the investigation. There is where they need to go to--you know, I mean--It's clear that they have knowledge, you know, from the show, it’s clear they have knowledge of why they were doing this.
So, I think that would be a great start.

VAN SUSTEREN: You know, the viewers have--have been through the investigation with you--up and down for the last 18 months--haven’t seen you lately, but I know that many of them are immensely curious of how you and Jug, and Dave, and Robin--Dave’s wife--are doing. How are you getting through this period?
Coming back into the holidays--still no answers.

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Well, still no answers, but, you know Greta, we've really been able to pull a lot of positive things out of this, and we have some things going on with the foundation, with the “Safe Travels Foundation,” and, and, you know, we just hope that, you know, we are just trying to turn our tragedy into, you know, something that is positive for other persons, and, really, that is where we spend most of our time now, and when things permit or come about, just as this, you know, involvement for the Netherlands, we will just, readily, accept that and just try to work with anyone we can.

VAN SUSTEREN: But do you really--I mean, do you really think, I mean, I know you expect--I know you’d like--maybe you’re more optimistic than some of the rest of us-- but do you think that this latest television show in---in Holland is in any way going to inspire anyone to reach deeper and investigate harder and get you information?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: You know, I don’t know, but I know one thing Greta--it sure does give vindication to know that, all along, we felt that we had been fighting this undercurrent from certain personnel in Aruba, and we could not--we didn't have names--we didn’t have faces, but now we do and we know that’s real, and we know
Joran van der Sloot is still the primary suspect, and, you know--I know that--I know that's not getting answers, or getting Natalee's perpetrators behind bars--where he should be--but, you know, it sure feels good after 18 months to know the persons that were fighting us, all along the way.

VAN SUSTEREN: You know, I thought it was immensely cruel--the fact that they don’t even give you any information--even the prosecutor can't think of some way to even, sort of, stay in touch with you. I thought they could do something. I thought, “that’s the cruel nature of this--on top of losing a child.”

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Exactly, Greta. It is very cruel to--to not be forthright with the family, and to share with us the personnel that were working right within the Justice Department that were hampering our efforts all along the way--every step we took, they were six ahead of us--covering, so, It's just--she could have, at least, had the decency to tell us. Every step we made was just--was just futile.

VAN SUSTEREN: Beth, thank you, and, perhaps this latest television show will inspire somebody to do something for you and your family.
Thank you, Beth.

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Thanks, Greta.

segun programa di Peter R de Vries, ABOGADO DI JORAN A BISA FISCAL CU JORAN TABATA TIN ROL GRANDI DEN DESAPARICION DI NATALEE HOLLOWAY

ORANJESTAD(AAN): Husticia di Aruba a yuda stroba investigacion den e caso di desaparicion di Natalee Holloway.

Segun e programa, e discusion a cuminza, pasobra Procurador General tabata haya cu e sospechoso Joran van der Sloot a wordo deteni mucho lat.

Esaki a pone cu P.G y fiscal durante un periodo no tabata papia cu otro mas y no tabata intercambia informacion. Pa loke ta listramento(huiszoeking), Huez Comisario a limita esaki pa apartamento di Joran so.

Pa e motibo aki recherche ta pensa cu e listramento no tabata sorpresa mas pa Joran.

Fiscal Janssen a confirma cu e combersacion secreto a tuma lugar, pero e no kier a divulga contenido di e combersacion. Carlo tampoco kier a bisa kico nan a papia di dje.

Carlo's Reaction

As we all know de Vries in his program talked about a leak of information in which he said that in the beginning of the case, Mr Carlo contacted Karen Jansen and asked to meet since he had information for her. They met after hours at Karen's Office (secret ?) where he told her that he has information and needed to get it off his chest. That Joran has had an active role in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway but he cannot proof it, that it is up to her to do that. De Vries' words.

Later in the case, Janssen send him a letter in which she referred their conversation and Carlo replied that it was not what he told her.

Today Carlo, denied ever saying that to Janssen, that in anyway accused Joran or said something about Joran's having a role in Natalee's disappearance. He acknowledged their meeting, but had to do with internal proceedings and also acknowledged communication afterwards.

He said that de Vries' claims are unfounded and also recorded in his office without any authorization as we can see that he had a hidden camera and he reminded that on November 30, 2006 he will be in court to ask the legal investigation be stopped against his client.

FOX NEWS TRANSCRIPT (verbatim) - November 28, 2006 - hosted by Martha McCallum

MARTHA'S GUESTS WERE:
1. Peter De Vries by phone in the Netherlands
2. Beth Holloway Twitty by phone in Alabama
3. Joe Tacopina on video conference in Rome, Italy

MARTHA: ...could this be used against Joran van der Sloot at this point? From Aruba, on the phone is Peter De Vries, who is a Dutch crime reporter, who broke this story. Peter, good to have you with us today.

PETER: Hello, Martha, but I am not at Aruba...I am in Holland.

MARTHA: ALRIGHT, WELL GOOD TO HAVE YOU FROM HOLLAND! THANK YOU VERY MUCH for being with us. Let me ask you this question, and I have gone through some of what you said about this already. But explain to our viewers exactly what you understand Joran's lawyer told to Karin Janssen, the prosecutor.

PETER: Yeah, what I found out is that the lawyer of Joran, Mr. Carlo, made an appointment with head prosecutor, Karin Janssen. And he said he wanted to talk with her, and then she said, no, I cannot do that...that is highly unusual. We can't talk during an investigation. But then he said, yeah, well, I have to talk to you...please. And, well, ok, then she admitted; and she said ok, you can come to my office.

And then the two had a talk, and Mr. Carlo said, yeah, I have to clear my conscience. I can tell you that, MY CLIENT JORAN HAS PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN THE DISAPPEARANCE OF NATALEE HOLLOWAY.
And I want you to know that, and, of course, it is up to you to deliver the full proof for that. But I can tell you that...that...he is playing a major role in this.

MARTHA: Right. And your reporting says that happened in June, just a month after she disappeared...is that correct?

PETER: Yeah, it was shortly after the arrest of Joran.

MARTHA: Alright, tell me what you think he meant by: "played a major part?" Was there any elaboration on that, because I know you confronted him about this meeting.

PETER: Yeah, what I know, is that at least, Karin Janssen, the head prosecutor...understood this as, that he has GUILT ON THE DISAPPEARANCE OF NATALEE...that he has something to do with it.

SO THERE IS NO MISUNDERSTANDING ABOUT THAT, because when they didn't manage to solve this case, Karin Janssen, also, wrote Mr. Carlo a letter...a couple of months later. And she said, can we please have a new talk about this? Can you please give some more details?

But then Mr. Carlo got scared, because he thought...that is what he understood...that it was a secret meeting...that she could talk. But when the head prosecutor was writing it...I mean a letter...it was no longer a secret.

MARTHA: Right...right...that made him nervous to think that about putting this down on paper. Peter De Vries, thank you so much for talking with us today. We want to bring in now, on the phone, from Alabama...is Natalee's Mom, Beth Holloway Twitty. Beth, welcome to you.

BETH: Hi.

MARTHA: Tell me what you think about this.

BETH: Well, I'll tell you, I think Peter De Vries is absolutely amazing! I always knew someone from the Netherlands could help solve this, and he has just been able to get in there...and to get this CONFIRMATION THAT WE HAVE KNOWN ALL ALONG...that there were persons, who were responsible for OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE, and protecting (not sure) , and derailing the investigation. He has given us that information.

MARTHA: You know, of course, lawyers for the otherside, and we are going to talk to Joe Tacopina in a moment; but they are going to say that there is no evidence...you know, to support this. And the fact that he wouldn't go back and write all this information down...documented...discredits what he is saying.

What do you think about that, Beth?

BETH: Well, I think they will always have to look at there were two personnel involved from the Aruban Justice Department, and that is why we don't have any evidence...and that is what Joran's attorney will have to be reminded of.

IT IS BECAUSE OF BOB WITT AND BEN KING STOPPED THE SEARCH WARRANT. It was made INITIALLY TO SEARCH THE ENTIRE AREA OF MONTANA (sp?) 19, THE GARDEN, THE BUILDINGS, AND EVERYTHING.

MARTHA: Right.

BETH: But on the spot, high ranking employee of the JUSTICE OFFICE, BOB WITT, reduced the search warrant to only the room of Joran, so THAT IS WHY WE DON'T HAVE ANY EVIDENCE...BECAUSE OF INVOLVEMENT from OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE from the ARUBAN JUSTICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL.

MARTHA: Beth, what do you think about the fact that he panicked? He says that his lawyer panicked when he went and said to him, this is the information I have. What does that say to you about CORRUPTION...we have heard so much about corruption in this situation?

BETH: Well, I think it just speaks very highly THERE WAS ALOT OF COLLUSION INVOLVED from "conflicts of interests"...that might be another way of putting it...a milder form of corruption. But, you know, it certainly...certainly was...there were many red flags that were going on, as far as collusion from personnel within the Aruban Justice Department with the father and Antonio Carlo. We can't deny that. NOW, we have names and faces of these persons.

MARTHA: Alright, Beth...just very quickly...in five seconds, you know, ten seconds, can you tell me you have often said that there is information that you have that you could never put out there. Did you know any of this? Did you know about this conversation between this lawyer...can you substantiate that...and the prosecutor?

BETH: Well, we always knew, I guess that there were...it is like if we would take one step forward, but then, we knew that there were persons in front of us moving; but, you know, we could not get any vindication or information that this was actually...who these persons were, who were actually doing this. And so NOW...

MARTHA: Alright...

BETH: BUT like I said, we have these things...we knew this was going on...this undercurrent to the investigation, but we just couldn't get the names and faces, AND NOW WE FINALLY HAVE THEM.

MARTHA: Alright, Beth Holloway Twitty, thank you very much. It is always good to have with us.

BETH: THANK YOU!

MARTHA: Alright, Joe Tacopina is Joran van der Sloot's American attorney, and he joins me now from Rome, Italy.
Joe, what do you make of these revelations from this reporter in the Netherlands?

JOE: What I make of it, Martha, is another individual trying to cash in on this tragedy. This guy is a materialist...he is a capitalist...he is someone who is making money off of a false story.

I spoke to Antonio Carlo, the former lawyer for Joran. He made no such statement to the prosecutor, and let me tell you this. I have looked through ever single document in this case: every police report, every prosecutor's note. There is no such document that supports any such claim.

And when you couple that with the fact that this individual didn't even have the wherewithal to document these very important conversations, Martha, at the time they were going on, and did not report that to law enforcement...I mean, it shows you his true motive. He is trying to make his splash...he is trying to make...he's got himself all over the news, which is what people have done repeatedly in the case.

This is another one of these tragic incidences in THE HOLLOWAY-VAN DER SLOOT INVESTIGATION, where you have people coming up with false stories. You have heard about this DR. PHIL tape, that turned out to be a "doctored" tape, where Deepak Kalpoe was publically confessing.

MARTHA: Right.

JOE: Beth Holloway did the same thing with that. She got on the air, and said, finally we knew there was a confession. That turned out to be false. You have heard about "false confessions" while they were in jail...that they all admitted to the crime. That turned out to be false.

This is another incidence, where it is just an act of desperation on Miss Holloway's part. We understand her desire to get this case resolved, but I think if she would do what Greta Van Susteren is doing, and the prosecutors, for that matter, which is taking a broader look at this case...looking at other areas, other leads...they have looked at Joran van der Sloot up and down.

He is not involved in Natalee's disappearance...

MARTHA: SHOULD...

JOE: The prosecutors have all but dropped their case against him. The lawsuit that Miss Holloway (This is what he is calling Beth Holloway Twitty.)filed against our client has been dismissed in New York courts.

MARTHA: Right, there was no grounds for it in New York according to that judge, but just to go back for one minute to Joran van der Sloot's household...this question of how much of an area they could search.

According to this reporter, Mr. De Vries, he says that the search warrant would have allowed to search the entire property, but when they got there, they were told by a JUSTICE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL, WHO ANSWERED THE DOOR, that they would only be allowed to search Joran's house.

What do you know about that...Joran's room, excuse me?

JOE: (pause) Right, well, Joran's room...is separate quarters from the rest of the house, and the judge specifically ordered that his living quarters be searched.

Eh...so I am sorry if people are upset, that the police have to comply with the court's orders, but that was what they were asked to do, that was what the court gave them permission to do; and that is what they did. They turned his room...his apartment upside down.

As far as being in the house...I mean, look, they had at it (not sure )with the van der Sloots. They had Joran in jail for three months. They had Mr. van der Sloot in jail for many days...weeks, and there is nothing that came out of this.

They did a search. I mean they have turned Aruba upside down. Every grain of sand has been moved, so lets not pretend that they missed the evidence...that they missed the body of Natalee in the van der Sloot household. Many people have been in and out of that household over the last year-and-a-half.

MARTHA: Alright, Joe Tacopina, thank you very much...good to have you with us this afternoon.

JOE: Thanks, Martha.

On 11-28 PETER R. DE VRIES stated to ROBERT JENSEN:
(Thank You and Hat Tip to “Robert”)

Here is the first part of PRdVries at Jensen:

- First couple of minutes is chitchat; then there’s a small videoportrait of PRdVries; next he says he’s been following this case from the start; next a video-introduction to the case.
PRdVries: I originaly was neutral but now I’ve been on Aruba and have spoken to many people involved I’m sure Joran is the main suspect and has lied evidently on several points. And an innocent person doesn’t have to lie.
Jensen: there were some 22 lies…?!
PRdVries: There are two crucial lies: the first: he dropped Nathalee of at the HI-hotel - which was a clever worked out lie with his friends. The second crucial lie is that he stated that after he’d left Nathalee on the beach he was picked up by Deepak with his car which Deepak denied and which was confirmed by sms-messages/mobilephone-location-technique. So Joran lied about the way he got home as well and again… you don’t have to lie when your’e innocent.
Jensen: Yes Jordan had sent an smsmessage to Deepak when he got home… and you don’t do that when he brought you home…. But what then do you think happened.. because that is crucial… there on the beach? We know… propably she had drank.. and possibly taken drugs…?
PRdVries: The police even doubts they were at the beach at all… They think they’ve been at Jordan’s house; that’s been stated by Joran. The story of the beach is not confirmed by the fishers there. And I’ve been there myself one night… and when there’s a couple playing and kissing on the beach you can see that.
Jensen: When you put all the statements together you cannot find any logic thread in them. But propably they took Nathalee to Joran’s house… His parents weren’t there…
PRdVries: His father was…
Jensen: But he has a dubious story… But anyway… One theory is that Nathalee died at the house of Joran..?
PRdVries: Yes, that’s one of the scenario’s the police think could have happened.
Jensen: But what do you think, now you’ve been there…?
PRdVries: Well this theory could be right but I agree with the police this is a strange story. Another thing is that his shoes have disappeared. He’s stated that they were left at the beach and he’d asked deepak to get them the next morning but as mentioned… he hadn’t been at the beach at all so that’s another lie.
Jensen: Another strange story is… his computer was combed out by the police…. It seems that when he got home he downloaded two porno-movies…
PRdVries: yes some people do that…
Jensen: Yes… but one theory is that Joran had sex with Nathalee and when that has happened violently…. and she died then… It’s very strange that you afterwards you download pornomovies.
PRdVries: Yes it’s confirmed that that happened on his computer that night….
Jensen: Beth Holloway said the organisation of the investigation sucked (jensens word) and if that had been right the case could have been solved within 72 hours….
PRdVries: Yes the police missed several changes to do things right: when they wanted to searche the house the door was opened by mr. Ben King, an assistent of the Procurements Gen. office.: the highest justice-office on the island and a friend of the family who wanted to support the VdSloots in these difficult times… So clearly the search of the house hadn’t been a surprise to the VdSloots. And the police had a warrant for the complete estate but a judge - Bob Wit - who was at the house as well said only Jorans room could be searched. These are things a Dutch crime-reporter is of course totaly astonnished about.
Jensen: and had that place been searched the first 72 hours a lot had become clearer. And there has been critics on the mother…. that she has been way to fanatic… She came up with private investigators… But you can understand that don’t you… if it’s your daughter… And these crazy things happen with the investigation…
PRdVries: yes… absolutely
Jensen: But what do you think has happened…?
PRdVries: it’s very difficult to speculate… Several scenario’s could have happened… The only thing I do is putting facts in the right order… But it’s clear Joran was the last one with Nathalee, he’s lied on some very crucial points and that shows you have something to hide. But what exactly happened at this point is pure speculation. But what I find very suspicious is the fact he lied about dropping her at the hotel. Because if you realy don’t know what happened to her you have to take into account that f.i. she shows up after having spent (rest will follow).

Here is the second part of the Jensen - PRdVries interview (more to come).

Because if you realy don’t know what happened to her, you have to take into account that f.i. three hours later she shows up after having spent the rest of the night somewhere else; in that situation the story of Joran wouldn’t have fit anylonger so it’s clear he knew she wouldn’t show up again.
Jensen: what do you think with all these lies… there must be a m.o.l high level game goin’ on… Between several groups…. Do you think so?
PRdVries: Well actualy it’s more the opposit… All the lies prove much has been improvised and bad agreements have been made about lies.
Jensen: It’s clear Joran knows more… But wait Peter… Beth is on the phone in a minute… And we hope for her the case will be solved soon….
PRdVries: I think this case is well able to be solved when you put a good team on it. And there is at this moment a Dutch team bussy with this case and I think it’s a good team….

BREAK

Clip from PRdVries’s show about the photoshopped picture.
PRdVries: We got this picture from someone who knew that Joran had payed for this picture to be made. Jorans email was in the cc of the email(forward?)-list. And the least you can say is that it’s not very sympathatic towards Nathalees family when you put yourself aside her now she’s missing/dead. (Comment by me: I think this picture is part of Joran’s strategie of throwing as much misinformation in the investigation as possible.)
Jensen: That’s very bizarre…
PRdVries: Yes indeed… And I went to Joran and asked him about it… (Small video of that; Joran: “I don’t have to talk to you… I’ve called the police…” PRdVries: I didn’t know you were on such good notice with the police…” a.s.o.)
Jensen: What does Joran do at this moment…. He’s a student at….?
PRdVries: Photography or something I guess…. (Much laughs.)

Last part of Jensen - PRdVries-interview.

Jensen: Joran has done some interviews hasn’t he… For US tv… And he was payed well for that I suppose?
PRdVries: I don’t know.
Jensen: They pay a lot for these kind of scoops over there…. But I don’t understand why he doesn’t show up in programmes like yours or mine..
PRdVries: Well… We have a lot of questions put to his father in a letter… Five sides… No response what so ever.
Jensen: Yes.., about his father… You don’t trust him either do you…
PRdVries: Well… He’s not willing to get in a conversation with us… We have a couple of very concrete questions for him but he’s not willing to answer. I think that’s awkward. And if you take into account the whole situation with the search of the house… The contacts he has…

Jensen: Well… Beth Holloway was in our show recently… (Clip of Beth & Beth at the telephone).
Jensen: So it IS possible… to solve relatively old cases like this…
PRdVries: Yes we’ve done so with a couple of cases in the Netherlands. (Names some.)
Jensen: And in this paricular case…
PRdVries: Well… It can be done but sometimes you need a little luck as well… But you have to try first… Than luck often shows it’s face most of the time itselfs… If I see what we have found out with the two of us on Aruba… When you go there with a good team…. There are a lot of lies to be cleared…
Jensen: Anyway… We’ll keep following you (a.s.o.)

On 11-28 BETH HOLLOWAY-TWITTY stated to the DUTCH show “Jensen!”:
(video available here The first 25 minutes of the “Jensen!“ show consist of ROBERT JENSEN interviewing PETER R. de VRIES in DUTCH about his investigation of NATALEE’s vanishing in ARUBA. A video replay of BETH HOLLOWAY-TWITTY, followed by a phone conversation with her starts at 25m 33s)

(START VIDEO)

(DUTCH speaker)

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: What they're doing is merely finger pointing--the implicating each other.
He raped, murdered, and buried her.
Finger pointing--Okay, so, that's where it's hard to have that hope that she would be alive.

(DUTCH speaker)

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: I think, now, a year-and-a-half later, I still fully believe that I will get an answer, but I'm not certain, now, that I’ll--that her--that her body is recoverable, so, I think--I think I've come a long way because that's hard to admit that. I mean--that's hard to accept that…
((tears up some, then just as quickly “shakes” it off her head))
…Anyway…

(DUTCH speaker)

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Oh yeah…I think about her every day because--that's why I'm here.
Yeah, I mean, I wouldn‘t--I mean--Every--every step. Every day…Yeah.

(END VIDEO)

(JENSEN in DUTCH to audience)

(START PHONE CONVERSATION WITH BETH HOLLOWAY-TWITTY WHO IS IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA)

ROBERT JENSEN, HOST: Hello Beth. Are you there?

BETH HOLLOWAY-TWITTY, NATALEE‘S MOTHER: I'm here Robert. Thank you.

JENSEN: How are you Beth?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Hey, listen…I'm great!
As long as I've got you guys involving--involvement in this case, it looks like things are “looking up.”!

JENSEN: Ok, that's great because, still, so many people come up to me on the street and ask me about you and whether or not there are any developments, you know, especially--How you are holding up, Beth?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Well, I mean it's hard, but when you have persons like you guys that get involved, you know, it just really helps and I just must say Robert, I mean, I felt strongly all along that involvement from The Netherlands could result in an answer, and it looks like Peter de Vries just may be the person that can come in and solve this crime, so, just a huge “thank you” to him, and, of course, your show was the “launching pad” for getting the word out, and, you know, it makes it easier every day when, when, when I have persons like you guys get involved.

JENSEN: Well, yes, you know, that's fantastic! I mean, are there any developments that you know of, I mean, the latest news? Is there any news?

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: No, I mean we have not heard anything until Peter de Vries became involved. It had been very quiet, and we just were not--we had no traction in the investigation at all. It was--there was, absolutely, not even a thread, so, this was just “huge” for us to, you know, get this this information from Mr. de Vries, so…

JENSEN: Yes, he's on the show, and he just--he just said to us that he actually thinks, and he has a lot of experiences in these cases that a--I mean, he expects, sort of, a solution. That it's still possible, even though it's so “late in the game.”
That there still might be some closure, pretty soon, right Peter?

PETER R. de VRIES, CRIME INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Yes, that's right.

JENSEN: Do you want to say something to Beth?

de VRIES: No. I already spoke with--to her this evening. We were in the same show in the United States, on telephone.

JENSEN: Okay, okay. That's fantastic. (then short conversation in DUTCH; crowd laughs)
Well Beth, it was great talking to you, and, really, again from the bottom of my heart, I really hope that there will be closure for you soon, Beth.

HOLLOWAY-TWITTY: Well, I think that we've got, you know, between Peter de Vries and things he's delving into, and, you know, I feel really optimistic, and I just look forward to, you know, having an answer, so, I think it's coming.
Thank you guys.

On 11-28 FOX News GRETA VAN SUSTEREN reported:
(Thank You and Hat Tip to “Andie”)

O'REILLY: ...I believe from the very beginning the ARUBAN AUTHORITIES WERE IN THE TANK...DID NOT WANT TO SOLVE THIS CRIME.

NOW WE HAVE EVIDENCE THAT JORAN VAN DER SLOOT 'S LAWYER believed that, as well. Am I right, or am I wrong?

GRETA: I think that, at least what the reporter told us from DUTCH TV, is that Joran van der Sloot's CRIMINAL ATTORNEY, NOT THE CURRENT CIVIL ATTORNEY THAT HE HAS IN THE UNITED STATES...HIS CRIMINAL ATTORNEY MADE A STATEMENT TO THE PROSECUTOR, which he now denies, which suggests that he had a guilty conscience...the lawyer, I mean, that he knew something from his client, and his client knew something about the MURDER.

Whether that is...how the body was disposed, or whether or not he killed her...I don't know. That is the scenario that is being painted, but what I must UNDERLINE TO YOU, BILL, is that the lawyer has denied that he ever made this statement. BUT that is the state of, you know, what people are NOW saying.

O'REILLY: Alright, do you believe that the lawyer thinks van der Sloot DID IT... JORAN VAN DER SLOOT DID IT?

GRETA: I don't know THAT, but I find it very hard to believe that this lawyer went to the prosecutor and made that statement...ONLY BECAUSE I've spent time trying to interview Antonio Carlo, and you can say alot of things about him, but I thought he was a very good defense lawyer. AND IT IS STUNNING A DEFENSE LAWYER WOULD EVER DO THAT. So that is something that could have happened...I don't know.

O'REILLY: Alright...know what you should do? Here's what we should do. We should send Mary Lacey (prosecutor in the Jon Benet Ramsey case) to Aruba to SOLVE THE NATALEE HOLLOWAY DISAPPEARANCE.

GRETA: (grin) ...well, I don't disagree with that one.

On 11-28 JOSEPH TACOPINA stated to FOX News:
(Thank You and Hat Tip to “Andie”)

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: ...Did Joran's Aruban criminal defense lawyer, Antonio Carlo, secretly visit the prosecutor...to quote, "clear his conscience."? The Dutch TV show is reporting that Carlo told prosecutor, Karin Janssen, his client played (or made) a major part in Natalee's disappearance.

Joining us is Joran's lawyer, Joe Tacopina. Joe, what say you? You are the CIVIL LAWYER that handles the matter here in the UNITED STATES. But what about this report about his CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAWYER in ARUBA?

JOE TACOPINA: It is so false, Greta. It is just another one of these, you know, "false facts" that seem to "lard" (= not sure?) this case from the beginning. And it is unfortunate.

What we have here is a guy, who is clearly trying to capitalize on this tragedy. You know, he is out there trying to publicize his program. He has gone on all the networks trying to get people to listen to what sounds like a stunning revelation, but it is a revelation that's not backed up by either party, who were supposedly at this meeting.

Antonio Carlo, who I have spoken to, said he absolutely did not have any such meeting, and the only meeting he requested of Karin Janssen was one where he wanted to make it clear that he didn't believe that Joran should have been held.

And, Karin Janssen, by the way, does not acknowledge that there was any such meeting. Greta, I been through every single page of the reports in this case: the prosecutor's reports, Karin Janssen's reports, and the police reports.

There is no such...if there was such a stunning admission, you know we would have heard about it way before now, and it is unfortunate...just another "uncorroborated fact"...one that is actually defied by the two alleged parties at this meeting.

GRETA: When did you speak to Antonio Carlo about this?

JOE: Earlier...earlier today, and I spoke with Joran, as well. I spoke with Paulus, and, you know, it's confirmed that there was absolutely no meeting of the sort.

GRETA: AND...and...go ahead.

JOE: You know, this reporter claims to have, you know, then confronted Antonio with this candid camera of his, and he looks so nervous, but I guess the camera wasn't working at that point; because he had no such reaction from Antonio Carlo on tape.

These notes that he allegedly took when he found out about this meeting, which, you know, he wasn't able to produce. They were not made contemporaneously. It is unbelievable that this guy is actually trying to pass this off, but, you know, he is not in the UNITED STATES...he is not subjected to, you know, our laws here...or liable, slander, and defamation laws.

And, you know, Antonio is going to have to weigh his options as to what he wants to do OVER THERE.

GRETA: And, just to sort of clarify the video people have seen of Antonio Carlo is our FOX NEWS channel video. We did not get that from DUTCH TV...

JOE: Yeah.

GRETA: ...something about that "candid camera." What was Antonio Carlo's reaction when you spoke to him, because, I mean, the idea of a criminal defense lawyer meeting with a prosecutor to clear his conscience is unusual, to put it gently...

JOE: (laughing) ...it is more than unusual...its, you know, cause for one to be disbarred, Greta. I mean, you know, Antonio Carlo is an experienced lawyer, and you know that. He is a well respected lawyer in Aruba.

I mean, the notion, aside from the fact that is not true...the notion that any criminal defense lawyer, especially an experienced one, would run into the prosecutor after his client, you know, made admissions to him...to say, "oh my God, I can't sleep at night anymore...my client made admissions."

It is just laughable (not sure) ...you know that.

GRETA: We only have 20 seconds left, so ARE YOU SAYING IT IS A FLAT-OUT LIE BY THE DUTCH REPORTER?

JOE: FLAT-OUT LIE by, quite frankly, a clown, who is trying to capitalize and make some money off of this tragedy....unfortunately, give false hope ONCE AGAIN, like the DOCTOR PHIL tape, and many other "facts" to this HOLLOWAY family.

GRETA: Joe, thank you.

Daddy's Little Girl

By Patrick Hurley
Nov. 29, 2006

My daughter groggily emerged from her bedroom this morning as I was watching the final episode of, "The Bachelor." (Don't you just love TIVO!) She was on her way to class and as she mumbled, "Good morning, Dad," I got up and stopped her. "Good morning, sweet girl. Can I have a HUG?" She turned to face me and I looked into her soft brown eyes. She is not a morning person. Never has been. Never will be. I drew her in close to me and whispered, "I hope you have a wonderful day. I love you very much." Then, I let go and she smiled slightly and off she went...

It was a brief moment in the life of a dad and his daughter. But, it was real and it touched me. Someday, the moments will become deeper and more meaningful....the day she graduates from college, the moment I walk her down the aisle to give her away to the man of her dreams...the night I pace outside the maternity room to meet my first grandchild...so many moments coming up in our lives. I love my daughter more than I have ever loved any person. Even when she is tired and incoherent. She is my baby, even at twenty-two years of age.

For the past several days, I have been thinking of Dave Holloway. A dad who thinks about his daughter, Natalee, as much as I think about mine. I know he feels emotions for his baby every single hour. Not a few minutes go by when he is not thinking about how much he loves and misses her. Unless you are a dad, you can never understand that kind of love and commitment to your little girl. For no matter how old your daughter gets, she is always a girl to a dad. She is always sweet and cute and vulnerable and funny and wonderful and perfect...she is daddy's little girl and both parent and child feel it and revel in it.

For so many people, the Natalee Holloway mystery was a media event that spun out of control because of the incessant coverage concerning a missing teenager. For others, it was confusing why the world was enamored with one child and two parents who captivated so much attention. For a few, it was anger that three boys took the unfair rap for causing her disappearance and death. For me, it was always about a daughter who vanished out of a father's heart one night without warning and without a final goodbye. There is no greater pain than to lose a child you love with all your heart without any hope of ever seeing her again.

Selfishness. The attitude that the world owes someone a living. More specifically, the arrogance that a human life is not to be put on the same level as one's irrresponsible desires. For someone that night, it was just a couple of hours of fun that went terribly wrong because they grabbed what they wanted at the expense of a human soul. For the father who had misgivings about his precious child going down to a faraway island, it was the end of a very special relationship. An abrupt and devastating end that tore the heart and spirit from a parent who, in the depths of his being, sensed this nightmare coming...

It would have been nice, in a perfect world, for the young men who coaxed Natalee into their car to respect and cherish her as much as her father did when they drove off on that fateful night. By the time they returned to their parents, Natalee was no longer in that car. In fact, she was no longer alive and preparing to come home to her own family. One moment she was happy and carefree and trusting three young men to take care of her and the next moment she was gone. At the moment she exhaled her last breath, her father was asleep in his bed safely ensconced under the covers of comfort not knowing that when he awoke, his Natalee would have vanished off the face of the earth. A parent never gets over that. Never. Dave Holloway will go to his grave loving his little girl and the odds are good he will never understand what made her disappear forever. His only clue is that the last person to see her alive was incredibly selfish and had no concern for a dad who would grieve forever because that person failed to behave in a manner worthy of what a vulnerable girl deserved on a dark beach alone and afraid when she suddenly realized this was not the kind of treatment her father had raised her to trust.

My daughter is in class now. I am smiling to myself because I know she is still trying to wake up and comprehend what her teacher is saying to her. Her dream of someday teaching Russian history continues on because the people she has met up to this point have respected and protected her which brings me a huge sense of relief. Every time she walks out that door, I pray for the people who will encounter her and hope they will act unselfishly and kind to my little girl. I also pray for Dave Holloway every day because the dreams he had for his daughter are gone. My heart will always go out to him and to the love he will never forget...for the child who will never come walking back through his door.

As you finish reading this, please stop and say a prayer for him, too.

As for the continuing story about Natalee Holloway, I wish the latest news about the Dutch TV show meant that we are closer to learning what happened to Natalee. I don't think it does, but this is one of those many times I would love to be wrong. I speak frequently to her mother and the pain is immeasurable. I often get e-mails from viewers critical of Beth and I don't understand. You can disagree with her, you can think she is on the wrong track, but would you do anything different? Would you not push as hard as you can to find out what happened to your child? I admire Beth and we have frank discussions about the investigation. As you might imagine, it is not easy for Beth when I might have a different view about the investigation. Of course we both — and likewise others — have the same goal: to get answers. She deserves answers. That is basic human decency. It is deplorable the way this investigation has been handled (bungled?) in Aruba. It is cruel that the authorities in Aruba don't talk to her and give her real information, whatever that may be. She can handle the truth... I don't buy the excuse that Dutch law does not permit them to talk to her. There are ways to talk to families without jeopardizing the investigation or violating the law. And yes, it is possible it will still get solved... all that is needed is loose lips.

I speak often to other parents with missing children and I wish our show could help them. I am not sure what we can do to help any of them. I do think some publicity for them is good — it puts pictures of the children out there in case someone has seen the child and, in some instances, helps encourage the police to put the matter on the front burner. Our police are overburdened in many communities and the 'squeaky wheel' has some effect... but, of course, that means at the expense of another investigation.

I get e-mails from viewers daily about stories we have covered and viewers want updates — so do we. We check daily on the stories hoping for updates and will bring them to you when we get them. If we don't talk about it on the show chances are there is nothing new in the investigation.

'GUILT' TRIP ON NATALEE

By MARSHA KRANES

November 29, 2006 -- A Dutch reporter investigating the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba claims a lawyer representing the first suspect in the case once paid a visit to the lead prosecutor "to clear his conscience."

At the meeting, lawyer Antonio Carlo allegedly told prosecutor Karin Janssen that he knew Joran van der Sloot played a role in the teen's disappearance, but that it was up to the police to "get the full proof," Peter de Vries told Greta von Susteren Monday on Fox News' "On the Record."

When Janssen wrote to Carlo asking for more details, she got a letter back from the "scared" attorney saying "you misunderstood me," de Vries said.

Van der Sloot's current attorney, Joseph Tacopina, yesterday dismissed de Vries' report as "utter bull- - - -. He's trying to cash in on the tragedy to publicize a documentary he made in Holland."

On 11-29 the “Scared Monkeys” blog reported:

How Desperate is the Aruban Government for Money?

Aruban Government attaches Marriott Sales Proceeds

Think the island of Aruba and the government is not desperate for revenue? I guess this can be added to the many reason to do business in Aruba and that “ideal market for investment” that was floated. According to Amigoe, the Aruban government has requested that a “Court of First Instance” be attached to the proceeds of the recent Marriott sale. We will do as we please, even if we do not have the documents. Why does this story sound so familiar?

The buildings were sold for 237 million dollars last week to a Caribbean investor in real estate. The petition is dated November 24th, but has been submitted before that date, because it mentions the urgent reason for the sale of the buildings.

Of course there are many details in such deal and disputed opinions, comments and facts. However, the following comment from Aruban Prime Minister Nelson Oduber rings so loud and so common as what we have all seen from Aruban officials during the past 18 months. Trust me, I am telling the truth. Conveniently they do not have the necessary documents, they vanished. Yet, people are supposed to take them at their word of the ones they do have that benefit their position.

These proceeds are for the Country of Aruba, after the Netherlands is paid in connection with the loan furnished at that time.” Oduber admits that the government does no longer have all the documentation concerning the loan. But from some other documents that he has, he concludes that only Aruba is entitle to the proceeds.

It always seems to be the same MO, follow the money. Aruba, being in a situation of lowered tax revenues from a declining tourism … this was an easy money grab.

In the petition is stated that there is a dispute between the Aruban and Dutch government about the division of the proceeds. The shares of the owners of the Marriott hotel, Plant NV are in hands of the Dutch Participation company for the Neth.Antilles (NPMNA) that is being managed by the Dutch Investment Bank. Aruba says that the NPMNA has only received the shares temporarily, as guaranty for a Dutch loan of 55 million dollars.

At that time, the government was in urgent need of money due to unfinished hotel constructions and hotel guarantees that were concluded in the eighties and had asked the Netherlands for financial support in accordance with the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The then minister for Aruban and Antillean Affairs Ernst Hirsch Ballin (CDA) loaned Aruba 55 million dollars via NPMNA under the condition that the shares are placed with NPMNA. This is the reason for the dispute now.

The Aruban government has attached the proceeds from sale of some of the buildings of the Marriott hotel (first complex on the left).

ORANJESTAD – From documents that Amigoe has received it appears that Aruba has requested the Court of First Instance to attach the proceeds from sale of the buildings in which the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino is established. This is an amount of 420 million florins.

The buildings were sold for 237 million dollars last week to a Caribbean investor in real estate. The petition is dated November 24th, but has been submitted before that date, because it mentions the urgent reason for the sale of the buildings.

SHARES

Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (MEP) has sent a letter to the Dutch minister of Kingdom Relations Atzo Nicolaï (VVD) on October 27th.

In that letter he states that NPMNA does not have any right on the proceeds of the sale of the Marriott buildings. “These proceeds are for the Country of Aruba, after the Netherlands is paid in connection with the loan furnished at that time.” Oduber admits that the government does no longer have all the documentation concerning the loan. But from some other documents that he has, he concludes that only Aruba is entitle to the proceeds. His letter mentions that the shares of Plant Hotel NV were first placed with Oranjestad Property Management (OPM).

After the loan, the shares of OPM would be divided between NPMNA and AIB. However, upon request of the Netherlands, the shares for AIB were held over permanently. That’s the reason why NPMNA remained on paper the only shareholder of OPM. The shares of Plant NV were transferred to NPMNA in 1993 and 2000. NPMNA became the shareholder of the Marriott buildings.
Temporarily though, says Oduber, because the minute Aruba pays off the loan and interest, the shares have to go back to the Country of Aruba. “NPMNA can be considered the trustee of the Country of Aruba. Aruba is economically the owner of these shares”, says Oduber. Besides, Aruba has already paid of a great part of the 55-million dollars loan.

VERBATIM & COMPLETE

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: We still don't know where Natalee is, or what happened to her, but the three suspects in her disappearance are making headlines.

The Kalpoe brothers, Deepak and Satish, are actually heading to court tomorrow.

This, as news is breaking, about a Dutch TV show that reported Joran van der Sloot’s Aruban lawyer went to the prosecutor to “clear his conscience” and reported that Joran played a part in Natalee’s disappearance.

Joining us from Aruba is Jossy Mansur, managing editor of “Diario.”
Jossy, why are the two Kalpoe brothers going to court tomorrow?

JOSSY MANSUR, EDITOR “DIARIO” (by phone): They are going to ask the judge to remove them as "suspects" --to change the status of being "suspects." They feel "uncomfortable" with that "situation."

VAN SUSTEREN: Have they ever done that before? Have they ever gone to court at an earlier time and asked to be removed as "suspects" ?

MANSUR: Yes they did, and the same Judge that is coming over from Curacao---judge Smid---will preside tomorrow, and presided last time, and, denied that petition previously.

VAN SUSTEREN: Karin Janssen, the prosecutor, I assume will be there as well, Jossy?

MANSUR: I am sure she will.

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you know what her position is on whether or not they should be removed, or, at least, the label removed as "suspects"?

MANSUR: I don't think they should, because they have to stay as "suspects" until the middle of next year----which is (some DUTCH legal term that sounded like “daglormentori“) ----by law, two years.

VAN SUSTEREN: Jossy, you’ve got your “ear to the ground” there--Are they actively investigating this case?

MANSUR: Yes, they are, Greta. They are actively investigating.

VAN SUSTEREN: What are they doing?

MANSUR: Well, in Holland they are busy reorganizing everything.
They took all the documentation that they have here--- all the originals --the tapes ---the audio tapes ---the video tapes, and they're going over them minutiously*, I mean, very carefully.

VAN SUSTEREN: Alright Jossy. Well, we certainly hope that they get some answers…

MANSUR: Let’s hope so.

VAN SUSTEREN: …as to what happened.
Jossy, thank you, very much.

MANSUR: You are welcome.

* Have you noticed that every so often, JOSSY speaks what I call a "JOSSYism," which, if you are a baseball fan, you might recognize that a "JOSSYism" is a cousin to a "YOGIism" (new words and phrases spoken and made famous by Hall of Fame catcher, YOGI BERRA)....when JOSSY said "minutiously" with respect to the DUTCH Investigators scrutinizing the case documentation originals of the tapes, original audio tapes, & the original video tapes (presumably the Current & Former Murder Suspect s taped interrogation audio's and video's) it added to the list of JOSSYism's !

New Details In Holloway Case

New details in the Natalee Holloway disappearance case are raising more questions about the chief suspect. A Dutch reporter investigating the case claims Joran van der Sloot's own attorney admitted he knew Joran played a role in Natalee's disappearance.

Beth Holloway Twitty told News 42 this news helps confirm her previous thoughts of Joran van der Sloot and she hopes it helps the case move forward.

This new development all stems from information obtained by well-known Dutch investigative reporter, Peter de Vries. In a broadcast that aired three nights ago in the Netherlands, de Vries claimed to have proof that a secret meeting took place between Joran's former attorney Antonio Carlo, and prosecutor Karin Janssen.

"During that meeting he disclosed to her that he knew his client had played a major role in the disappearance of Natalee, and he was basically clearing his conscience," said Twitty.

This information shines the spotlight once again on the Dutch teen that was at the center of the investigation for so many months.

"We've known since the beginning that he had involvement because of all the lies that began to unfold so early and especially the initial story that was fabricated just within hours of us landing on the island," said Twitty.

What comes out of this new revelation remains to be seen, but Twitty hopes it gives a shot in the arm to the investigation.

"Now, after the airing of the show and Peter de Vries uncovering this information, that it will put additional pressure on the proper authorities to bring these persons to task," said Twitty.

Van der Sloot's current attorney, Joseph Tacopina, reportedly calls the allegations "utter bull."

Twitty says regardless of the outcome, she's able to stay positive by focusing on her "Safe Travels Foundation," so others won't have to live through the nightmare her family has experienced.

New Development in Natalee Holloway Case

In a stunning development in the Natalee Holloway case, a Dutch television reporter says an attorney representing Joran van der Sloot admitted that the young man played a role in Natalee's disappearance.

The bombshell claim was made by Dutch reporter Peter de Vries. He says he has learned that van der Sloot's attorney, Antonio Carlo, paid a secret visit to the prosecutor in the case, telling her that he believed van der Sloot was involved in the Alabama teen's disappearance.

"The attorney said he had something on his mind that might be helpful to the investigation," de Vries said.

De Vries, a well-known journalist in Holland says van der Sloot's lawyer, Antonio Carlo, admitted to him on hidden camera that he had communicated with the prosecutor just a few weeks after Natalee disappeared.

De Vries said, "When he realized what we knew about this secret meeting and what he told the head prosecutor, he was nervous.

INSIDE EDITION spoke with Natalee's mom, Beth Holloway Twiddy, who said she was "pleased" with what de Vries uncovered, and that the new information only confirms what she has believed all along.

"It just gives us vindication," she said. "Our suspicions for the past 18 months were there were individuals involved who were obstructing justice and protecting suspects."

But the new report is being strongly challenged by Joe Tacopina, the high profile attorney who also represents Joran van der Sloot.

"He's making up facts, he is fabricating facts. There was no such meeting," he told INSIDE EDITION.

It's been eighteen months since Natalee Holloway disappeared and police in Aruba have yet to charge anyone. Joran van der Sloot has consistently denied any involvement in the case.

De Vries says that the police think her death was accidental. "She was together with Joran and something happened. She passed out. Joran panicked and Joran wanted to get rid of the body."

For Natalee's mom, this new information offers renewed hope of finally finding out what happened to her beloved daughter.

"We only hope this will cause someone to bring these people to task and to try to find out what happened in those initial weeks into Natalee's disappearance."

Pa. felon-turned-philanthropist arrested for having gun

11/30/2006, 11:26 a.m. ET
By PATRICK WALTERS
The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A convicted felon-turned-philanthropist who has offered up reward money in several high-profile cases was arrested on gun charges, authorities said Thursday.

Federal agents discovered a handgun in a nightstand at Joseph Mammana's home in the Philadelphia suburb of Yardley, according to an arrest warrant. As a convicted felon it is illegal for Mammana to possess a gun. He has a lengthy criminal record that includes convictions for aggravated assault, larceny and narcotics violations.

Agents searched Mammana's home on Wednesday and found the loaded handgun in Mammana's bedroom. Records showed that the gun was purchased by Mammana's father in 1979.

Mammana has offered reward money for high-profile crime cases in several states including the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba last year.

He also has assisted in the case of Julie Popovich, whose skeletal remains were found Sept. 1 near an Ohio reservoir. She was last seen leaving a bar near Ohio State University on Aug. 11.

He also co-sponsored a gun buyback program in Philadelphia in which people were offered shopping vouchers if they gave up their guns.

The telephone listing for Mammana's home was nonpublished and a message left at his office was not returned.

A message left with Mammana's attorney Thursday morning was not immediately returned.

This is part of the Breaking News I wanted to share: The security guards are still suspects in the case of Natalee Holloway.

In court today was the lawyer for the Security Guard Mickey John.

They also started a case months ago where they also asked for his name to cleared as suspects.

The judge initially denied this.

So they went once again today. Finally the Prosecutor agreed that there is indeed no reason to keep having Mickey John as a suspect in the case.

The judge will make his decision known in two weeks.

Murder Suspect Hearing Case in Aruba Concludes … Joran van der Sloot, Kalpoes & Security Guards Wait for Decision

According to sources in Aruba, the hearing to determine whether the suspects will continue to remain suspects is over. There has been no decision made yet and one will not be made until next week. The hearing, according to sources was for all five remaining suspects: Joran van der Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe, Satish Kalpoe and the two security guards.

What good reason is there to make an exception and take the primary suspects off a suspect list when by law the prosecutors have 2 years? Who does it serve? A lot can happen in six months, who is to say it won’t?

So why do these three deserve to be an exception to the rule? Is that the precedent Aruba wishes to create? Or the perception they wish to put forth to the world?

Come to Aruba … disappear … never to be seen from again … and even though we have 2 years to prosecute suspects … we will let the last three people ever seen in your company off and not consider them suspects … why? Because we are Aruba and protect our own.

The hearing took place behind closed doors in front of Judge H.C. Smid, who is the judge that ruled previously on the same petition from the Kalpoe Brothers and Joran van der Sloot, and denied their request. The media was not allowed in the court room during the proceedings. Why they make this any more clandestine and secretive than its been since the beginning is a mystery. Of course …why start now Aruba?
Who would take Joran “fauxtograph” van der Sloot off a suspect list? So what was the gist of the defense’s argument as to why they are seeking a ruling? One that actually makes no sense. How does the defense know or can know what the Prosecution will do in the future? Do the defense attorney’s have a magic 8 ball? Although one does begin to wonder if this is actually how decisions are made there.

http://www.scaredmonkeys.com/fun-images/Magic_8_ball_small1.jpg

We understand that the main argument of the defense is that the Prosecution has not, after a year and a half, presented its case in court. The defense doesn’t see any reason why the suspects should remain as such after that prolonged period of time.

How is it a prolonged period of time if the law states the prosecution has 2 years? One would think that with less than 6 months to go until they are taken off the suspect list as, what’s the hurray? If by Dutch law that can keep individuals as suspects for 2 years, then what’s the rush? Why have the guideline in place then? This is one of the most high profile cases and has major implications to Aruba and their perception as caring whether they take crime or investigations seriously.

The Dutch police are supposed to be looking at the Natalee Holloway case as a cold case. Peter de Vries just recently did a rather controversial TV show in Holland regarding Natalee’s disappearance. Now the defense wants all suspects removed from the list? Draw your own conclusions.

We have stated this fact many times and it rings most true today and will next week upon the judges decision. After 18 months of terrible press, inaction and cover up in dealing with the Natalee Holloway case, the last thing Aruba needs is to now show that they are making exceptions to their own laws to take the three main suspects off the list. Legally it makes no sense and financially it will be devastating.

What’s good for the three suspects, is terrible for Aruba.

David Kock said that in court it showed once again that Prosecutor had no case against his clients. The last few months they have answered many of the questions they had. He does not see the prosecutor taking any one to court. But the judge is the one that must make that decision.

The little questions left that the Prosecutors have are about Joran, but has nothing to do with the Kalpoes and still the Prosecutors are treating them all three as suspects.

On 11-30 “Scared Monkeys” blog identity “all10suspects” reported:

UPDATE: Jossy Mansur emailed me and made the following comments regarding todays hearing and how he feels about the case in general.

There wouldn’t be any harm really if the Judge decides to terminate their status of suspects. The investigation will continue and they can be re-arrested if the prosecution can come up with evidence that can support that. As suspects they can be dragged in at any time to be interrogated; if not, then legal procedures have to be followed for them to be interrogated again.

I have no idea why Karen Janssen hasn’t brought the case to court yet. She can and should go for kidnapping and rape, or at least imposed or forced sexual activity on the girl, since she was going in and out of consciousness while they were busy molesting her in the back of the car. That has been admitted during the interrogations. (Jossy Mansur)

On 11-30 DAVID KOCK stated to FOX News:

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: Welcome David. Why was everyone in court today, David?

DAVID KOCK, LAWYER FOR SATISH KALPOE : Hi Greta. How are?--Well, today, finally we had a day in court where, if you remember in August already, we asked for the judge to force the DA to take a position to either take my clients to court for the trial, or to dismiss the case against them.
I think the judge gave the DA ample time and by setting the date first on November first, and then, changing it to today, November thirtieth. As you know, the judge had gone over from Curacao--[he is] not the local judge to do this case--and today we had the judge here, and that is why we had to be in court today.

VAN SUSTEREN: And did the prosecutor convince the judge to keep holding them as suspects, or, did the judge release them as suspects?

KOCK: Well, it was a very interesting day, because today the DA--not contrary to other situations--had to come in and try to show the judge enough to give reasons for her to continue investigating. That is still what she is saying. She is saying she needs more time.
She gave a "Power Point” presentation with all the facts--as they would have it--with all the questions that they still need to be answered, and based on that, requesting a period of at least three more months of investigation that they want to do.
I must tell you that what we saw today, although interesting, doesn't give us any indication that there is a new development in the case, new leads. It seems to be more of just the same of what we have also been seeing for awhile,

VAN SUSTEREN: Can you tell us if she has, like, been working on the case, recently, like, in the last month?

KOCK: I must say that some of the points that she presented that were taken care of during the last couple of days--I must say--the last ten days or something--to us. It seems more like a reaction on our potential reaction on the date set by the judge, so that she can again, you know, try to convince a judge that they are doing something. So it is more that--I think we, as the defendants, are stimulating the DA to take action.

VAN SUSTEREN: Alright, so we await the order on that from the judge. So, as soon as you get the order let us know, David, what the judge says. Thank you, David.

KOCK: You are very welcome, Greta. Take care.
