On 6-17 Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT ’s good friend, JAMIE CARRASQUILLIA, gave the following statements to his ARUBAN Police Interrogators:
(Thank You and Hat Tip to "Scared Monkeys" blog and “Debbie”)

PROCES-VERBAALWe, Luigi Angelo Giovanni CROES and Dennis Dominico JACOBS, respectively officer first class and head officer, with the Korps Politie Aruba, first mentioned officer is attacked to the Section Often Occurring Crimes district II and the latter with the Robbery Project team (Atraco team), declare the following. On June 17th 2005, approximately 13.50 hours, we the reporting officers, interviewed as a witness the man named: Jaime Alberto CARRASQUILIA CACERES, born in Columbia on April 25 1985, E.P.I.(Sector Economico) and living ****** ***** ****** *** on Aruba. His statement goes as follows. "My friends and acquaintances call me "Beto". I have known Joran since August 2004. Through the man named "Freddy Zedan" I met with Joran. One day I went to Joran's house with Freddy and since then we kept in contact. Usually Joran, Freddy, Koen, Sander and me go out together. Joran's nickname is "Jojo", Freddy's nickname is "Fefi", Koen's nickname is "Cul" and Sander's nickname is "Nepi". The places we usually go out to are "Carlos & Charlies", "Bahia", Tandra", "Cinema" and the beach near the big hotels. A place we regularly visit is "Carlos & Charlies".To your question whether I drive a car, my answer to you is affirmative. I drive a green Honda Civic, made in 1997 or 1998. I cannot remember the plate-number right now but it is registered to my big brother named "Miguel Angel CARRASQUILIA CACERES".To your question as to what kind of person Joran is, I can state the following. He is a good friend. I have never had a problem with him. I do not know him to be an aggressive person. I have seen Joran drunk before. When Joran is drunk, he is a truly happy person at least on the occasions where I witnessed him being drunk. On May 29th 2005, between the hours of 16.00 and 19.00, I was called by Joran on my mobile phone with the phone number "*******". Sometimes Joran calls me on the mobile phone of my sister, her name is "Maria del Pilar CARRASQUIXIA CACERES". Her calling name is "Pilar". The mobile phone number of Pilar is "*******". The mobile phone number of Joran is "*******". Joran had asked me whether I wanted to go out with him that night. He told me that a few American girls would go to "Carlos & Charlies" and whether I wanted to meet up with him there. According to me I had said to Joran that I would let him know later that day whether or not I would go out with him that night. I had also said to Joran that I had to work the next day. According to me I was phoned later that day by Joran again but I hadn't answered my mobile phone. Because it is the vacation now I temporarily work in "Caribbean Overseas". I work in the big Poolkasten. On May 29th 2005 I stayed home and slept. I went to bed at approximately 22.00 hours. On May 30th 2005, in the nightly hours, I had not talked to Joran. It is possible that Joran phoned me, but I didn't answer my mobile phone because I was sleeping. I am sure that Joran did not send me any messages with his mobile phone in the night of May 30th 2005.On May 30th 2005, approximately 06.00 hours, I woke up. I went for a run. I ran to Wendy's Palm Beach and at approximately 07.00 hours, I returned home. I do not know how many kilometers that is. After I got home I went and showered and at approximately 07.45 hours, i went to work. Between the hours of 08.00 and 17.00, I was not phoned by Joran. After I finished work I went straight home and at approximately 17.30 I arrived home. After that I didn't go out that day. According to me I wasn't phoned that day by Joran. Joran had on that day also sent messages. It is possible he gave me an "missed-call" message on my phone but I am not sure about that. I at least did not call Joran because I had no money/minutes left on my pre-paid phone so I couldn't call him. At approximately 23.00, I had to pick up my father where he works. My dad works at the Wyndham Hotel. After I picked up my father from work we drove home. At approximately 23.20, we arrived home and I immediately went to sleep/bed.On May 31th 2005, approximately 05.45 hours, I woke up and approximately 06.00 hours, I went and ran the same route. On June 1st 2005, approximately 05.45 hours, I woke up. I did not go for a run that day. I stayed and watch sport news on TV. Approximately 07.45 hours, I left for work again and at approximately 17.30 hours that day, I returned home. According to me I stayed home again that day.I do not remember with certainty what day it was or what time it was, when Joran called me on my mobile phone. Joran asked me whether I could remember that one day he had asked me to go out together with a few American girls. Joran told me that the girl that had gone out with him had gone missing now and that Deepak, Satish and he dropped off the girl at the "Holiday Inn Hotel". Joran said that he would talk to me about it later. I answered Joran that was fine. (With Joran, Deepak and Satish is meant the suspects "Joran Andreas Petrus van der SLOOT", "Deepak Sharma KALPOE" and "Satish Shanaa KALPOE; comment Croes). After that if I am not mistaken it was the beginning of June 2005, it was a Friday- or Saturday night that I bought a pizza at Domino's and then went to Joran's place. (with this the 3rd or 4th of June is meant; comment Croes). On that day I arrived at approximately 21.00 hours at Joran's place. I saw that "Koen", "Sander" and Joran were in the apartment of Joran and that they were playing poker. Koen and Sander are brothers but I do not know their last name. I had told Joran that I would be bringing them a pizza and a coca-cola. I also asked Joran if they had found the missing girl. Joran answered me that the missing girl had not been found yet. Then Joran told me that Deepak, Satish and he drove in the four door grey car, make Honda Civic that was owned by Deepak to "Carlos & Charlies" and that the three of them had then driven around with the missing girl. According to Joran the girl was strange. Joran told me that the girl was strange because she told him that her mother was "Hitler's sister". Joran told me that the girl wanted to see the sharks in the sea of Aruba and that they had dropped off the missing girl at the Holiday Inn Hotel. When Joran was telling me this is father entered the apartment and after that the subject was not spoken about anymore. At approximately 23.00 hours, I left Joran's to pick up my dad from where he worked. After that I was again called by Joran on my mobile phone. I cannot remember the date or the time when he called me. Joran had told me to come and spend the night together with "Freddy" at his place. According to me it was on a Friday or a Saturday. I had told Joran that I would come over to his place to spend the night. But I did not go to his place. On that day I went out to dinner with my girlfriend named "Karina ROMERO". The next day in the early hours of the morning, I had sent Joran a message that I hadn't been able to spend the night at his place because I had been busy. After that I got a message from Joran saying that it was OK/cool.To your question whether Joran wanted me to keep something for him, I can state the following. Joran had not given me anything that I should keep for him.To your question whether if had helped Joran with regard to the case surrounding the missing girl "Natalee Ann Holloway", I answer you the following. What I just told you is what Joran told me. I know nothing else about the missing girl. To your question as to who "Andre" is, I answer you that he is a friend of Joran's. He lives in Palm beach. I do not know what car he drives. According to me he goes to the "Mon Plaisier College". I don't have Andre's mobile telephone number and I do not know his last name either. I can point out to you the house where Andre lives. I further have to remark that Joran goes to casino with Andre. Andre has a younger/smaller brother called "Arthur".To your question as to who "Guido" is, I answer you that he too is a friend of Joran's. He regularly plays tennis with Joran at the "Raquet Club". Joran told me that Guido is a croupier at the casino but he did not mention to me which casino. I do not know the mobile telephone number of Guido. I have to remark that Guido speaks funny and that according to me he is "gay".To you question as to who "pimp" is, I answer you that it is us, meaning the friends of Joran call each other that. It is a habit to call each other pimp. To your question whether I know a Spanish speaking girl named "Stephanie", I answer you affermative. She is a Columbian girl and according to me she is the girlfriend of Joran. According to me Stephanie lives in the hamlet of Moko but I do not know the number of her house. To your question whether I know the man named "Max Arends", I answer you the following. He is a friend of Joran and he is also at the "International School". According to me his name is "Maximillian Arends".This is my truthful given statement. If you have further questions, I am willing to answer them.J. A. CARRASQUILIA CACERES,After witness J.A. CARRASQUILLA CACERES, had read his statement he stated that he would persist in it and then he signed it.Of this we, CROES and JACOBS, on our out as officers have made this proces-verbaal, closed and signed on June 17th 2005.

SEFERINO “Steve” GREGORY CROES was arrested 6-17 because CROES voluntarily went to the ARUBAN Police and claimed he was a witness to the 3 Main Murder Suspects dropping NATALEE off at the “Holiday Inn,“ BUT, by 6-16 Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT , Current Murder Suspect DEEPAK KALPOE , and Current Murder Suspect SATISH KALPOE had already confessed that their “Holiday Inn” stories were just lies.
Interestingly, when ARUBAN Police commissioner VAN DER STRATEN was asked by CNN the reasons why STEVE CROES was arrested, VAN DER STRATEN stated it was because “one of the three youths named him.”
On 6-17 the “Scared Monkeys blog" reported:

According to Top 95 via American in Aruba
The arrest this morning was of a 26 year old. There were 2 dutch brothers questioned yesterday may have provided some information that led to this arrest. Also, a family friend of Joran van der Sloot was on the radio saying the Joran was a quiet nice boy who liked to go out with friends. The station is holding out hope publicly on the radio that she may be alive.

(on 6-28 RUFO SOLOGNIER, retired ARUBAN Police officer, and uncle to STEVE CROES, and a next-door neighbor of STEVE CROES, said to FOX News that he hardly ever sees CROES because he, “sleeps all day, and works at night”)
On June 18, 2005 FOX News” reported “Meanwhile, Police brought in yet another man for questioning Friday night [6-17], FOX News has learned. The man, Max Arends, who is also a friend of van der Sloot, is not a suspect in the case and has not been arrested.”
On October 21, 2005 BETH HOLLOWAY-TWITTY stated to MSNBC that ARUBAN authorities have received the SKEETERS videotapes of Current Murder Suspect DEEPAK KALPOE's documented statements/confessions. BETH stated that DUTCH judge RICK SMID “chose the suspects rights over the victims rights.” When asked if the SKEETERS video tapes will put the Murder Suspects back in jail?, BETH stated, "It has to. It has to. I think that Aruba knows the choice if it doesn’t.” “Everything keeps coming back to the water.” BETH stated that Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT “even mentioned in his first statement that Steve Croes is the witness to seeing him drop Natalee off at the "Holiday Inn" and the two security guards coming up to take her.” “I’m sure there is another motive behind Steve Croes. I’m sure that he had involvement.” (recall that very early on it was reported that Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT phoned Current Murder Suspect "Steve" CROES in the early AM hours of 5-30 before Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT went to school on 5-30) BETH stated "November first, I am returning.” When asked if she believes there may be an ARUBAN-DUTCH cover-up, BETH stated "I wont say ‘there may’,” but BETH did not, at this time, call for a boycott of ARUBA and HOLLAND.
On 6-17 WIGGINS told the “AP” that STEVE CROES had said he knew one of the two Current Murder Suspects KALPOE brothers ( Current Murder Suspect DEEPAK KALPOE ) because they both went to the same Internet cafe.
On 6-17 the “AP” reported “Police Superintendent Jan van der Straten told The Associated Press that (on 6-16) authorities used a helicopter ‘to search for possible remains -- but found nothing.’ He declined to say where the search was conducted.”
Suzanne Ontiveros reported on 6-21, "After a week of worry, the worst fears about Natalee Holloway seemed to be confirmed Friday night (6-17). According to Police, a man who took her to the beach in Aruba now admits to killing her."
On August 1, 2005 BETH HOLLOWAY-TWITTY stated to FOX News that she has recorded in her journal several times before 6-21 (including when BETH wrote it on 6-17) that Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT had told many witnesses, including the Police on 5-31, that he had picked up Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT at the “McDonald’s” at 4:00 AM on May 30, 2005, but when BETH and GRETA had the 90 minute meeting with him on 6-21 that was the first time that Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT started claiming that he picked up Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT at “McDonald’s” at 11:00 PM on 5-29.
On 6-17 ARUBAN Police commissioner VAN DER STRATEN told The Associated Press that the Police used a helicopter “to search for possible remains — but found nothing.” He declined to say where the helicopter searched.
On 6-17 DUTCH judge BOB WIT ruled that PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT cannot visit Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT in jail, but that the boy's mommy may do so (and she did on 6-18). WIT's reasoning wasn't made public.
???? Could Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT have been coaching her on what to tell Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT about how to act, what to say, etc????
Of the DUTCH judge’s 6-17 decision, FOX News reported “Also Friday [6-17], the court barred van der Sloot's lawyer, Antonio Carlo, from visiting the teen, effectively removing him from the case, said Attorney General spokeswoman Mariaine Croes. As a result, the van der Sloot's retained two more attorneys for the defense of their son, Richie Kock and Arjan Debie. The court granted prosecutors' request to remove Carlo because he had visited one of two former security guards who had been detained and released in the case, authorities said. Croes said the Dutch teenager has a team of lawyers, so Carlo's removal will not leave van der Sloot without representation. The spokeswoman is not related to Steve Croes.”
On 6-17 CNN reported:

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: A judge in Aruba may rule today on motions filed by the suspects held in that case of Natalee Holloway. Karl Penhaul live again in Palm Beach, Aruba -- Karl, good morning there. What are we learning about the three men held in this case as the days go by there? KARL PENHAUL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Bill, these three young suspects are good friends. They share a fascination of the Internet. And at least one of them is from a well respected and influential family here on Aruba. (BEGIN VIDEO TAPE) The son of a judge is led away in handcuffs, Dutch-born Joran van der Sloot. His mother was there when police arrested the 17-year-old in a dawn raid. ANITA VAN DER SLOOT , SUSPECT'S MOTHER: He said, "Mom, don't be upset, because everything will be fine. I know I'm innocent. I didn't do anything," you know, in a very, almost naive way. He was very open with us, told us everything, what happened. PENHAUL: van der Sloot's mother, Anita, talked to CNN just after her son, the oldest of three children, was arrested in connection with Natalee's disappearance. VAN DER SLOOT: I'm praying. I'm praying. I'm thinking about her, about her family. We're all thinking about her. And I don't know what to do more right now. PENHAUL: Her husband, Paul, a judge and former prosecution service official in Aruba, declined to speak to CNN. Days after Natalee's disappearance and just before his arrest, van der Sloot graduated from Aruba's prestigious $12,000-a-year International School. The school Web site described him as an honor student who had been accepted at a number of colleges in Florida. VAN DER SLOOT: His favorite subject is physical education, sports. And he's an athlete as well as in tennis as in soccer. And he enjoys being active. And he's just a very spontaneous, open, 17- year-old teenager. PENHAUL: He's Internet savvy and visited his friend and suspect, Deepak Kalpoe, at a cyber zone cafe where Deepak worked. ANGELINA REPPAS, CYBER ZONE CAFE BOSS: He's a good friend of Deepak's. He comes on the Internet after school sometimes. PENHAUL: In fact, van der Sloot had his own Web site, where he posted photos with family, friends, girls and parties. Hours after his arrest, the Web site was taken down. Schoolmate Leonardo Rivera says he had been a good friend of van der Sloot's until they had a falling out. Before the disagreement, they used to hang out at the beach and in bars. (on camera): What would you all be drinking? LEONARDO RIVERA, SCHOOLMATE: The (INAUDIBLE). PENHAUL (voice-over): That's a mixture of vodka and fruit punch. (on camera): What kind of buzz did he used to get when he was a little bit drunk? RIVERA: Normal. PENHAUL: Was he an angry drunk? RIVERA: No. PENHAUL: was he a happy drunk? Was he kind of...RIVERA: No, funny, funny. A funny guy, yes. PENHAUL: Did he used to smoke a little something or...RIVERA: No. No, he didn't do drugs. PENHAUL: Smart and athletic, Rivera says van der Sloot also fancied himself as a ladies man. RIVERA: He used to have a girlfriend, girlfriends. Yes. He liked to play around. PENHAUL: His mother insists he's innocent, but says she's confounded by her son's arrest. VAN DER SLOOT: We are parents that know our kids. We've try to educate them well. We've tried to care for them, warn them. And it's devastating that these things happen. (END VIDEO TAPE) PENHAUL: van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers are under investigation still and under interrogation by police and investigators. And what a law enforcement source close to the investigation tells us is that these three friends continue to point the finger at each other -- Bill. HEMMER: Karl Penhaul, Palm Beach in Aruba.

4th person detained in Aruba disappearanceUpdated Fri. Jun. 17 2005 11:51 PM ETAssociated PressORANJESTAD, Aruba -- A fourth person has been detained in Aruba in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, authorities announced Friday. The person "suspected of being involved" in Holloway's disappearance was identified by the attorney general's office only as a 26-year-old with the initials S.G.C. The office did not disclose the gender or say when the person was detained. Also in custody are 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot, the son of a justice official on Aruba, and his two friends, Surinamese brothers Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18.Holloway disappeared in the early morning hours of May 30 on Aruba, a Dutch protectorate in the Caribbean. Also Friday, prosecutors filed a motion asking a judge to rule there is sufficient cause to continue holding van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers. The three were detained June 9. Under the law, a judge must review their case after 10 days and decide their status.A judge was expected to rule as well Friday on another petition, from van der Sloot's father, Paul van der Sloot, to be able to visit his son in jail. None of the four detainees has been formally charged with a crime.Holloway disappeared the same day she was to return from a five-day trip with 124 other students celebrating their high graduation in Mountain Brook, Ala.Searches by authorities, volunteer islanders and tourists have come up empty. Authorities were refusing to say if they thought Holloway was dead.On Thursday, however, Police Superintendent Jan van der Straaten told The Associated Press that authorities used a helicopter "to search for possible remains — but found nothing." He declined to say where the search was conducted. On Wednesday, authorities searched the van der Sloots' one-story, yellow-beige home, where Joran lived in an attached apartment. Agents were seen carrying two white garbage bags filled with items from the house, while authorities towed away a blue SUV and a red Jeep from the property in Noord, outside the capital, Oranjestad.Following the approximately four-hour search, Attorney General Caren Janssen said Paul van der Sloot was not under investigation. She refused to say whether a judge brought in from neighboring Curacao to hear his petition was considering other motions in the case as well. Paul van der Sloot, from Holland, is training to be a judge.Asked why it took investigators more than two weeks after Holloway's disappearance to search the van der Sloot home, Janssen said Thursday, "You have to build up an investigation. You can't just go in there like a cowboy, you have to give certain direction to investigators."The Kalpoe brothers have told police that they and Joran were with Holloway and that she and the Dutch youth were kissing in the back seat of their car. The detainees initially said they took Holloway to a beach on the northern part of the island then dropped her off at her Holiday Inn hotel, where they claimed she was approached by a security guard. But Antonius "Mickey" John, a former hotel security guard released from custody on Sunday, told reporters that Deepak Kalpoe told him during a chat in jail that he and his brother actually dropped the young van der Sloot and Holloway off together near the Marriott, about 10 blocks north of the Holiday Inn. John said he passed the information on to police.Kalpoe's lawyer would not comment on John's statement Wednesday, but said his client maintained his innocence.

Aruba police arrest another suspect in missing student caseUpdated June 17, 2005, 1:49 p.m. ETORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — A fourth person was detained in Aruba on Friday on suspicion of being involved in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, who vanished nearly three weeks ago while celebrating her high school graduation, authorities said.Meanwhile, Holloway's mother said she believed there might be more arrests before the case was resolved. She did not elaborate. The person "suspected of being involved" in Holloway's disappearance was identified by the attorney general's office only as a 26-year-old with the initials S.G.C. The office did not disclose any more details, but Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, referred to the person detained Friday as "Steve" during an interview with Associated Press Television News. She declined to give more details of his identity, but she said she believes more people could be detained in the case."This is just the beginning," she said.Authorities already have detained 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot, the son of a Dutch justice official on Aruba, and his two friends, Surinamese brothers Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18.Holloway disappeared in the early morning hours of May 30 on Aruba, a Dutch protectorate in the Caribbean. The three men previously in custody said they took Holloway, 18, to a northern beach but dropped her off at her hotel, where she was approached by a black security guard.Looking tired and angry, Holloway Twitty said she was increasingly unhappy with the lack of progress in the case."I want my daughter and I want her now," she said. "It's not that hard to figure out. ... I'm very frustrated. We are in day 18 with no answers."Holloway Twitty added that she would "believe my daughter is alive until I find out otherwise."Also Friday, prosecutors asked a judge to rule that there was sufficient cause to continue holding van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers. The three were detained June 9. Under the law, a judge must review their case after 10 days, rendering a decision by Sunday. No one has been charged with a crime in the case. The court was expected to rule Friday on a petition by van der Sloot's father, Paul, to visit his son in jail and on a request by the son's attorneys to see any evidence against him. Paul van der Sloot is a judge-in-training, serving a three-year term on the bench that allows him to hear a limited number of cases. On Thursday, prosecutors filed a motion to stop Joran van der Sloot's lawyer, Antonio Carlo, from seeing him, said Mariaine Croes, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Caren Janssen.Authorities claim their investigation could be damaged because Carlo spoke with one of two former security guards who were detained in the case and then released, Croes said Friday. The judge was brought in from neighboring Curacao island, as is typical in high-profile cases.Holloway disappeared the same day she was to return from a five-day trip with 124 other students celebrating their graduation from high school in Mountain Brook, Ala.Searches by authorities, volunteer islanders and tourists have come up empty. Authorities refused to say whether they believed Holloway was dead.On Thursday, however, Police Superintendent Jan van der Straaten told The Associated Press that authorities used a helicopter "to search for possible remains -- but found nothing." He declined to say where the search was conducted. On Wednesday, authorities searched the van der Sloots' one-story, yellow-beige home, where Joran lived in an attached apartment. Agents were seen carrying two white garbage bags filled with items from the house, while authorities towed away a blue sport utility vehicle and a red Jeep from the property in Noord, outside the capital, Oranjestad. After the approximately four-hour search, Janssen said Paul van der Sloot was not under investigation.Asked why it took investigators more than two weeks after Holloway's disappearance to search the van der Sloot home, Janssen said Thursday, "You have to build up an investigation. You can't just go in there like a cowboy. You have to give certain direction to investigators."The Kalpoe brothers have told police that they and Joran were with Holloway the night she disappeared and that she and the Dutch youth were kissing in the back seat of their car. The detainees initially said they took Holloway to a northern beach and then dropped her off at her Holiday Inn.But Antonius "Mickey" John, a former hotel security guard released from custody Sunday, said to reporters that Deepak Kalpoe told him during a chat in jail that he and his brother actually dropped the young van der Sloot and Holloway off together near the Marriott, about 10 blocks north of the Holiday Inn. John said he passed the information on to police. On Tuesday, FBI agents and officers from the Miami-Dade police department used German Shepherds to search the area, known as Malmok beach, which is a popular nighttime spot for lovers.Deepak Kalpoe's lawyer would not comment on John's statement Wednesday, but has said his client maintained his innocence.

On 6-17 Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT was questioned.
On 6-17 ANITA VAN DER SLOOT claims her husband’s “duty's as a lower level judge have been suspended during the investigation,” but that could not be confirmed 6-19 through officials.
On 6-17 MSNBC reported:

DAN ABRAMS, HOST: Coming up, Police in Aruba make another arrest in connection with the disappearance of missing teen, Natalee Holloway.
ABRAMS (voice-over): A party boat D.J. now is the fourth person being held. Natalee‘s mother says she expects more arrests to be made before the case is solved. We hear from her and get details on the latest suspect.

ABRAMS: Hi everyone. First up on the docket tonight, a new arrest in Aruba in connection with the missing Alabama teenager, Natalee Holloway. Police there have detained Steven Gregory Croes, a 26-year-old party boat D.J. He joins three suspects detained since last Thursday, a Dutch teen and son of a judge in training on the island, Joran van der Sloot and Surinamese brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe.
According to Aruban authorities, Croes is—quote—“suspected of being involved in Natalee‘s disappearance.” She was in Aruba celebrating her high school graduation. She‘s been missing for 18 days, last seen in the early morning hours of May the 30th.
Joining me now with the latest from Aruba is NBC‘s Martin Savidge. So Martin, do we know whether this latest suspect was arrested because the three boys who are now being detained provided information that led to his arrest?
MARTIN SAVIDGE, NBC NEWS CORRESPONDENT: We don‘t know, Dan. We don‘t know at this particular point. All we know is that authorities moved in very early, around 6:20 this morning and it‘s the fourth arrest. And all of these arrests have occurred at the crack of dawn.
As you pointed out, he‘s a D.J. on the party boat, Tattoo. You know what these party boats are. They‘re like catamarans or other party boats that people like to go out and have a good time while they are on vacation. We also know that he was originally from the island of Caracal (ph), lives in Aruba with his grandparents and finally that he was a witness in this case as of a few days ago.
In other words, he must have been talking previous to authorities, but now he has gone one step further and he is under arrest and apparently a suspect now in this case, and as we say, brings it to four. So that‘s what we know about this to the moment.
Let me tell you a couple of other things that have taken place. We‘ve been telling you over the past couple of days about Mr. van der Sloot , that is the father, Paul, of Joran van der Sloot, how he has been seeking to get access to his son. He was denied because he is an attorney. That has now been cleared away. He is allowed to visit his son according to a court ruling and in fact, he has already done so today.
And finally, those three suspects, previous, before the one today arrested, are in court at this very moment. A judge doing the routine of going over the charges against them trying to determine whether it is valid to continue to hold them. We expect to hear something before the day is out—Dan.
ABRAMS: And Martin, they get reviews every eight or 10 days. What is it—they are entitled to have a review as to whether it‘s still legitimate to hold them every how many days?
SAVIDGE: It‘s every eight days. It‘s always before the same judge. But, the level, the bar of measure, gets to be higher and higher for authorities each time. In other words, you know initially you may come at them with statements you have from witnesses. Now you must, as the case gets farther along, as more time passes, authorities have to be able to present more and more evidence in order to justify holding the suspects. There has been some talk that perhaps one or more could be let go, based upon that yard stick.
ABRAMS: I want to ask you another question in a second, but I want to play a little piece of sound from Natalee‘s mother. She talked about having met Joran van der Sloot, that Dutch teen, who is now considered one of the prime suspects in connection with her daughter‘s disappearance. Here is what she said today.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY, NATALEE HOLLOWAY‘S MOTHER: He did approach me and with his attitude, very condescending, very arrogant. He seemed to be somewhat powerful and there very limited communicative exchanges. That was the impression that I got in that brief, brief moment.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ABRAMS: Martin, how did the suspect approach Natalee‘s mom?
SAVIDGE: Well, essentially what it was is that the family arrived here immediately after they heard that their daughter had gone missing and they went off to begin trying to track down the last people that were known to be with her daughter. So looking for Joran van der Sloot was a name they already had from the other young people that had been on the trip.
And what they had done is they went to the house and basically wanted to talk to him. But of course...
(CROSSTALK)
SAVIDGE: ... his parents were there and other people were there. So this was a very brief initial meeting, and that is the sort of snap judgment made by a mother who is worried desperately about her daughter. So...
ABRAMS: Yes.
SAVIDGE: ... is it a fair assessment of what Joran van der Sloot is really like? No. But it is an interesting snapshot taken...
ABRAMS: Yes.
SAVIDGE: ... at a very interesting time.
ABRAMS: And I think we can all understand why she has some animosity towards this guy right now. Martin thanks a lot. Appreciate it.
Speaking of Natalee‘s mother, she‘s played a very prominent role in the search for her daughter, going door to door with pictures of Natalee, asking locals and tourists to help in finding her, pleading for answers. Now want to hear a little bit more from Beth Holloway Twitty today in her own words.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
TWITTY: We need answers now. We need answers and we need them soon. But yes, yes, and everyone is working in a collaborative effort. That has been established. That now with us moving forward as we are, now we should be moving to answers. I think there are several individuals with the answers.
Where is my daughter? Get the answers, where is she? They know what, they know who, they know where, they know when, they know how and they know why. So I want them. I want the answers.
Each day is so incredibly difficult. But as I have said, you know, I have a strong faith and belief in trusting God and with all of the supporters, that is what getting me through each day and it‘s really getting me stronger each day. It‘s getting me stronger each day to where I feel like I am just beginning.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ABRAMS: You can understand her frustration. I mean there are these three guys who are in custody, now four, and supposedly they were the last ones to see her. And now they still can‘t find her. They still don‘t know what is going on?
Joining me now an attorney in Aruba, Lincoln Gomez. Mr. Gomez thanks very much for coming on the program. Appreciate it. All right, let‘s talk law.
LINCOLN GOMEZ, ARUBAN ATTORNEY: A pleasure.
ABRAMS: Let‘s talk law a little bit here. So you got these three guys who were detained, they‘re back in court, basically arguing to a judge to let them go. Let‘s deal with them first. How does it work in Aruba? What do they basically have to say? What would they have to show? What would the prosecutors have to show to keep them detained now?
GOMEZ: Well the prosecutor will keep saying and arguing over and over again that it is in the best interest of the investigation to keep these three suspects in custody so they can continue with the investigation. The defense counsel will argue over and over again then that is no longer necessary, and that their clients, they are not a flight risk, they can go home, and that they will continue and—to cooperate with the investigation if need be, but that they should know longer be deprived of their freedom.
ABRAMS: Am I being cynical if I look at what‘s happened and I look at it in the following way—you have two security guards who were the first ones who were arrested. They‘ve been released because apparently, at least it seems, they had nothing to do with this. These three people who were the last ones to see her were initially considered witnesses.
After 11 days, they are arrested. Now we have a fourth person being arrested, a D.J. We‘re hearing that some of the three may end up being released. I mean it sort of seems like they‘re just kind of throwing everything against the wall and seeing if something might stick.
GOMEZ: I don‘t think that‘s accurate and maybe you are being cynical. The investigation is going on. They have—they started with two security guards. They went on to three kids. They have done some searches. Now there are more witnesses. There are additional suspects. I think the investigation is moving along.
And one of the main reasons why in our system the defense counsel that are involved are not given all the information all the time is to protect the integrity of the investigation. I think that‘s the main job of the prosecutor right now to protect the integrity of the investigation and to make sure this investigation can continue.
ABRAMS: And the investigation continues with these people behind bars. So you think that they‘re going to finally get some answer? Would you expect that in the next few days this case would be cracked?
GOMEZ: I mean now that a fourth suspect is detained, you must understand that they will probably have to go back and cross-reference and validate the different statements and evidence at hand. So it could take a few days more before something is resolved or unless we got a big break in the case.
ABRAMS: All right, Lincoln Gomez thanks very much. This is important, the legal side of this, and it is important to understand that we do have a different system than do they. And they do put people away, hold them there, as they investigate. So the question that a lot of people are asking is you know are—is the family getting all the information available?
Is this investigation on track? Let‘s check in again with the spokesperson for the Aruba government, Ruben Trapenberg. Thanks for coming back on the program. We appreciate it. So I was just talking...
(CROSSTALK)
ABRAMS: ... to Mr. Gomez about the way the investigation has been proceeding. We‘re hearing from Martin Savidge that a couple or some or one of the people who are in custody now may soon be released. Now there is this fourth person coming in. Is this a typical investigation in Aruba where a couple of people are coming in, they‘re put in jail, then they are released because they weren‘t involved. You got three more people arrested. Maybe one or two of them gets released and they keep sort of arresting people and it‘s become sort of a rotating investigation that way?
RUBEN TRAPENBERG, SPOKESPERSON FOR THE ARUBAN GOVERNMENT: No, he just gave you an explanation of that possibility. That is possible at this point, but if the investigation has led to these three guys, the chance for them being released at this point I think is very, very small. Remember, that these three boys point the finger at the two former guys or indicated that it might have been them. That‘s why the arrests were made on them.
So what we don‘t get to hear are the details of the investigation and that makes it difficult for us to evaluate what‘s ongoing. It appears to us that there is not much happening, but that‘s the Dutch legal system, that‘s the way it works. It‘s different, but on the local level I can tell you from the press that I worked in quite a number of years, we don‘t hear details at all in any case.
ABRAMS: Do you not know? I mean you said we don‘t know and I know you can‘t talk about it. But you don‘t know what is happening in the investigation or you can‘t talk about what is happening in the investigation?
TRAPENBERG: From the government point of view, the minister of justice and the prime minister are involved of the progress in the investigation. They don‘t hear details and—until a later date. At this point they are just kept abreast of the progress that is made in the case. And there is reason to be confident in the system and that it‘s working.
ABRAMS: Right.
TRAPENBERG: The prosecutor‘s office has given us the reassurance that progress is being made in this case.
ABRAMS: How many law enforcement officials are working on this case?
I mean give us a sense of the sort of the big picture here.
TRAPENBERG: The spokesperson of the Police gave an idea about few days ago and he said it was close to 100 people because...
ABRAMS: Wow.
TRAPENBERG: ... he had different teams working. There‘s—yes, there are teams that go out, checking out the leads. There‘s a teams that‘s doing the search. There‘s a team directing the investigation, so it‘s quite a number of people.
ABRAMS: Yes.
TRAPENBERG: And the reason is because it‘s something that has national priority. There was a carnival parade, mid-year parade to happen this Sunday. That has been postponed for now. We‘re not even looking at that because...
(CROSSTALK)
TRAPENBERG: ... it would have taken Police off of what they were doing to, you know to have...
ABRAMS: Yes...
(CROSSTALK)
ABRAMS: ... very quickly...
TRAPENBERG: ... that‘s been moved...
ABRAMS: Very quickly, I‘m out—I‘m almost out of time -- 100 out of how many?
TRAPENBERG: Out of, I think, the force is around 500. I‘m not sure, but that‘s the figure I have heard in the past.
ABRAMS: OK. Ruben Trapenberg, once again thank you for coming back on the program. Appreciate it.
TRAPENBERG: Thank you, Dan.
ABRAMS: We‘ll have more on the search for Natalee later in the hour.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
ABRAMS: Coming up, another suspect under arrest in Aruba in connection with missing Alabama student, Natalee Holloway. We‘ve got a report coming up next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(NEWS BREAK)
ABRAMS: We‘re back with more on the developing story out of Aruba. There has been a new arrest in connection with the disappearance of Alabama teen, Natalee Holloway. Joining us with the latest from Aruba is Julia Renfro, editor-in-chief of “Aruba Today”. Thanks very much for coming on the program. We appreciate it.
All right, do we know that this latest suspect, this party boat D.J., do we know that the three guys who are in custody now provided some sort of information that led to his arrest?
JULIA RENFRO, (the transplanted AMERICAN in ARUBA who moved to ARUBA 17+ years ago and owns an interest in many ARUBA businesses including an ARUBAAN's news-source): Well, of course the Police haven‘t given any official statement as of that, but what we‘ve found out ourselves is that there is a relationship or friendship between the two brothers and the party boat D.J.
ABRAMS: What more do you know about the party boat D.J.?
RENFRO: You know, I‘ve known him for quite a while and he‘s just a friendly guy and somebody who has never been in trouble. And wow, he knows how to pump up the volume.
ABRAMS: So you know this guy?
RENFRO: You know, just from being on the boat, being at different events at different parties. He‘s a popular guy.
ABRAMS: Bottom line, does everyone on the island, I mean is it small enough such that you know a little bit the three other men who are under arrest as well?
RENFRO: Well, it‘s a small enough island to know enough about everybody. Do I know them personally? No. But have I heard about them? Yes. And from my position in the newspaper, we‘re always covering all of the wonderful things that happen on Aruba and you know, they have good reputations.
ABRAMS: What kind of parties—I mean for those who don‘t know what kind of parties they have on this kind of boat, what are you—what kind of parties are they?
RENFRO: Well, it‘s mostly for tourists. Of course, the locals enjoy it quite a bit as well and you know a couple of hundred people jump on one of these boats and they make a lot of noise, and it‘s great because it‘s out on the water and it doesn‘t really affect anybody at all, the noise. And a lot of music, a lot of dancing, and a lot of fun.
ABRAMS: Do we know whether Natalee was ever on the boat?
RENFRO: No, we don‘t know that, but I‘m pretty sure that she was not.
ABRAMS: So it‘s just about the relationships between him and two of the men in custody?
RENFRO: Right. It‘s, you know, you can only speculate on what it could be. I don‘t think that anyone is pointing fingers at this point, but it could just be just as simple as a phone call at some point in time, the day before, the day after, who knows.
ABRAMS: How big a deal is this in Aruba, this investigation?
RENFRO: This is enormous. This is the biggest thing—in the 15 years that I‘ve lived here this is the biggest thing that has ever happened to Aruba.
ABRAMS: All right, Julie Renfro, thanks a lot for coming on the program. We appreciate it.
Joining me now MSNBC analyst and former FBI profiler, Clint Van Zandt.
Clint, I‘ve been asking this question primarily of people on Aruba...
CLINT VAN ZANDT, FORMER FBI PROFILER: Yes.
ABRAMS: ... and they‘ve been very defensive and I don‘t know that it‘s a fair question, but let me throw it out to you.
VAN ZANDT: Sure.
ABRAMS: Are you concerned about this investigation? Meaning these two guys, these two security guards who were arrested, they‘re released.
VAN ZANDT: Yes.
ABRAMS: You have these three other guys were the last ones to apparently have seen her. They weren‘t arrested for 11 days. Martin Savidge reporting that one, at least one of them may be released. Now you have a fourth person being arrested. I mean is it fair for me to ask is this investigation moving on course?
VAN ZANDT: Well, the only thing I can even hope for, Dan, is that it‘s what I‘ve heard maybe, these three guys, they were originally suspects, but the Police were cagey enough to put a GPS device on their car, to wiretap their cell phones and leave them on the street on the off chance that either the vehicle or the phone conversations...
ABRAMS: Right.
VAN ZANDT: ... would lead them to Natalee. If that‘s true, good for the cops, they did a good job. It was a calculated risk, but you know, had they found her it would have been worth the risk. If that‘s not true, it‘s horrible that they left these three guys on the street all this time to put their story together, to dry-clean the car, to get rid of evidence.
And now we‘ve got this fourth jambalaya boat operator who comes up. I mean I‘ve been on those boats. It‘s a lot of people, many times underage, drinking rum punch and getting themselves you know far more intoxicated than they should because they haven‘t drank like that before.
ABRAMS: Clint—I don‘t picture you, Clint, as the type to be on the Tattoo.
VAN ZANDT: You haven‘t seen my with my sunglasses and hat on...
ABRAMS: All right...
VAN ZANDT: ... Dan...
ABRAMS: All right...
VAN ZANDT: ... that‘s another environment.
ABRAMS: Fair enough.
VAN ZANDT: All right.
ABRAMS: Let me play a little piece of sound—this is from Natalee‘s uncle yesterday talking in general about the investigation.
VAN ZANDT: Yes.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MICHAEL PARTEN, NATALEE HOLLOWAY‘S UNCLE: (UNINTELLIGIBLE) you know I don‘t think we‘ve heard the correct version of this story yet, but hopefully in time it will be revealed.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ABRAMS: Clint, I‘ve got to tell you, I‘m kind of surprised that if these guys are the right guys, that they haven‘t provided anything that has led to a body or led to an alive Natalee.
VAN ZANDT: Yes. You know, Dan, this is, as you and I know, this is whole another environment. We‘re used to people like in the D.C. sniper case where the chief of Police it seemed every 15 minutes stood up and made a press release. I mean the Aruban Police, especially the Dutch, this is not the way they prosecute a crime. I mean they‘re not even quick to give up the names of suspects.
So my best-case scenario is that there is a lot going on behind the scene, that there are good Dutch cops who have come in that are helping. That the FBI has got the ears of the Investigators and that they are listening. And that they‘re building, building, you know the building blocks of a case that you as an attorney and I as an Investigator want to see so they‘ve got an air tight case. This better not be a mysterious disappearance, nobody knows what happens, let‘s go on with one happy island...
ABRAMS: Yes.
VAN ZANDT: ... because that island is not going to be happy.
ABRAMS: No and I think they realize that. I mean I think that‘s why they‘re taking this so absolutely seriously is because they realize that the future of tourism on Aruba could depend on their success in this investigation.
VAN ZANDT: Their whole economic future is riding on this...
ABRAMS: Yes.
VAN ZANDT: ... investigation right now.
ABRAMS: Clint, good to see you. Thanks for coming back.
VAN ZANDT: Thanks for having me Dan.

On 6-17 CNNHN reported:

NANCY GRACE, HOST: Tonight, breaking news. Eighteen-year-old Alabama beauty Natalee Holloway disappeared into thin air during her high school senior trip. And tonight, the mystery intensifies on the tiny island of Aruba. In the last 24 hours, a fourth suspect behind bars tonight in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. No body has been found. Is there a hope this girl is still alive?

But first, breaking news in the Natalee Holloway case. Aruba Police take a fourth suspect into custody tonight. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY, NATALEE HOLLOWAY'S MOTHER: The frustration is unimaginable. It’s unimaginable. And I have waited, and I have waited, and I have waited, and I have listened, and I have heard lie after lie after lie unfold. And I have to have some answers, and I better get them soon. (END VIDEO CLIP) GRACE: That’s NATALEE’s mother. Tonight, in Atlanta, defense attorney Lisa Wayne; in New York, defense attorney David Schwartz; psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Deltito is with us. But first, let’s go down to Aruba and CNN correspondent Karl Penhaul. Karl, an incredible development, yet a fourth suspect behind bars tonight. Why? KARL PENHAUL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: The fourth suspect that has been arrested has been named as Steven Croes, Steve Croes. Police arrested him around dawn. What the chief Police commissioner, Jan van der Straten, told me when I talked to him was that his name had come up during an interrogation of the three young suspects already in custody for around ten days. What we’re also hearing is that this arrest could have been based on some kind of electronic surveillance. Steve Croes is a D.J. on the “Tattoo” party boat. That’s 150-foot three-deck catamaran that sails just off the west coast of Aruba with partygoers on board, usually in the evenings. And he is the D.J. on that ship. But his boss, Marcus Wiggins has also told us that he is an experienced seaman, as well, Nancy.GRACE: You know what, Karl Penhaul, a lot of what you’re telling me, very, very interesting the fact that no sight nor sound, hide nor hair of Natalee Holloway, and you’re saying this guy E.G. on a cruise ship. Explain that. What, does he go out for the evening, they party hardy, and then come back? PENHAUL: Exactly that cruise ship, called the “Tattoo” party boat, like I say, a 110-foot catamaran, that usually leaves the pier in front of the Aruba Grand Hotel. That’s about 300 yards down the beach from the "Holiday Inn" where Natalee Holloway was staying. That boat leaves most evenings at around 8 o’clock in the evening, gets back about 12 o’clock. The staff, the crew of the boat, are usually leaving the pier and going home around 1 o’clock. But according to the owner, that boat generally doesn’t go out on a Sunday night, unless, of course, there’s a special party booked. You’ll remember that Natalee Holloway went missing late Sunday night, very early Monday morning -- Nancy? GRACE: Karl, do we know if there was a special party booked that Sunday night that she went missing? PENHAUL: We don’t have that answer yet. We are looking into that to see what the boat’s movements were. We do know from the owner, Marcus Williams (sic), that Steve Croes did have a key to the boat. But the owner also tells us that the boat has a special electronic security system on it and he doesn’t believe that Steve Croes would have been able to take the boat without his permission. And he has described Steve Croes as a model employee, Nancy. GRACE: Hmm. Let me quickly go to David Schwartz, defense attorney. David, these three guys, van der Sloot and the other two young guys that took Natalee, it was not against her will, but went with her from the bar that night. At this juncture, they’re being held separately. They’ve not been able to meet with their family. David, don’t you believe they’ll be willing to say anything to pin this on somebody else, not saying they did it, but to just get the heat off them? DAVID SCHWARTZ, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Well, at this point, from a defense standpoint, Nancy, they should just shut their mouths at this point. They’re being detained on a murder case. And you know, they should have the right not to speak. Now, I don’t understand how it works in Aruba. Every time somebody’s name gets popped around, they could go ahead and arrest people. GRACE: We don’t know that. We don’t know that. These three people have been...(CROSSTALK) SCHWARTZ: We know that about the two security guards, Nancy. We know that they went out and arrested these two security guards. I’d still like to know what evidence they had against these two security guards to hold them from the time that they did. GRACE: Dr. Joseph Deltito, these three have been behind bars for a considerable period of time. I doubt very seriously that just because somebody’s name pops up they get arrested. Look how long it took to get these three behind bars. But what I’m thinking about right now, remember the two Kalpoe brothers spoke to the security guards? Everybody, you were just looking at a shot of van der Sloot, the judge’s son, and the Kalpoe brothers. These three are the ones behind bars in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. We know that they were willing to lay the blame on the security guards, OK? So how do we know anything’s different with this fourth suspect? JOSEPH DELTITO, PSYCHIATRIST: No, we don’t know what they’re saying, and they may just have offered a name, as you say, just to get attention away from them. GRACE: Heat off them.DELTITO: You really don’t know. And we don’t know where this guy, Croes, fits into the whole story right now. So it’s speculation based on not much evidence that we can really work with. GRACE: Dr. Deltito, take a listen to this. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) TWITTY: I really didn’t speak with all three of the suspects. Only one of the suspects approached the vehicle that I was seated in. And what was given to me from him was a very condescending, arrogant, and very cold and somewhat powerful attitude. (END VIDEO CLIP) GRACE: That’s Natalee’s mother. She is vowing not to leave the island without her girl, Natalee Holloway. Back to Karl Penhaul, CNN correspondent there in Aruba. Karl, you mentioned electronic surveillance. Now, what that means to me, in America, would either be a wiretap, a GPS locator. What kind of electronic surveillance has led to the arrest of the fourth suspect, Steve Croes? PENHAUL: Well, we don’t know for sure that it was, in fact, electronic surveillance. That is one theory that is being put out, because Police themselves are being tight-lipped. The Police commissioner, van der Straten, did tell me that the name came up during interrogation in part of the investigation. When I got back to him and asked him about the possibility of electronic surveillance, we wouldn’t go further into this. Of course, we do know that the Investigators and Police are playing cards very close to their chest in order not to prejudice their investigation at this stage, Nancy. GRACE: Lisa Wayne, when we’re talking about electronic surveillance, we’re normally talking about a wiretap, that could be a cell phone, a home phone, even a pay phone that someone is known to use. And Lisa, another issue is, from the time that these three young men were taken into custody, and now, many days later, almost two weeks later, that is plenty of time to get authority for a wiretap and to listen to it, Lisa Wayne. LISA WAYNE, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: I agree. I mean, maybe someone’s phone number came up on one of their phones. Maybe they’re trying to set up some phone calls. I mean, you know, it seems like the Police are casting a very broad net. We don’t know if that’s the pressure of this mother, and they need some leads, and they’re trying to develop things as they come. But maybe they set up a phone call. Maybe they got a phone number off one of these kids' phones. And that could be the surveillance. GRACE: Very quickly, back to Karl Penhaul, Karl, before we go to break, what can you tell me about this fourth suspect, his age, his family situation, what? PENHAUL: He’s a 26-year-old, originally born on Curacao, but he has lived on Aruba for many years now. He’s a recent divorcee. He’s the father of a 2-year-old son. He was living in the town of Santa Cruz. That’s a town in the center of the island near the national park. He was living at that house with his grandfather and his grandmother, living next door to his uncle. His uncle is a retired Police chief inspector, Nancy.GRACE: Karl, what if any connection is there between -- this is a grown man, he’s a 26-year-old divorced father -- and these three young guys who are partying hardy at Carlos and Charlie’s. What’s the connection? PENHAUL: Police and prosecutors haven’t told us of any connection. But talking to Steven Croes' boss, Marcus Williams, he says that he believes that he knew one of the Kalpoe brothers through the Internet Cafe. Now, we know that Deepak, the eldest of the Kalpoe brothers, the 21-year- old, worked at the Cyberzone Internet Cafe. And it seems as it’s there where he knew Steve Croes, Nancy. GRACE: We are live in Aruba tonight with CNN correspondent Karl Penhaul. In a stunning new development in the Natalee Holloway disappearance, a fourth suspect behind bars tonight. Is there a break in the case? Please stay with us. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) TWITTY: When I say it’s just beginning, I think everyone can see. Everyone can see that. It’s just beginning, because we don’t even have one answer yet. We have to find Natalee. They have to find our daughter.(END VIDEO CLIP)(COMMERCIAL BREAK)(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)DAVE HOLLOWAY, NATALEE HOLLOWAY'S FATHER: The people here has been have been absolutely amazing. We’ve been with Red Cross on some occasions. And those ladies have been awesome. And it’s truly -- the whole island wants to be helpful and wants resolution to this case. (END VIDEO CLIP) GRACE: That is Natalee Holloway’s father, also there on Aruba.Welcome back, everybody. A stunning development in the Natalee Holloway search. As you know, the Alabama beauty, also an honors student with a full scholarship at University of Alabama waiting on her upon her return, went missing on her senior trip. Tonight, a fourth suspect behind bars. Straight down to Aruba and CNN correspondent Karl Penhaul. Karl, take a listen to what Steve Croes' employer had to say. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) MARCUS HIGGINS, FOURTH SUSPECT'S EMPLOYER: He had told me that he had a friendship with one of the -- a superficial friendship, in the sense that I believe they went to the same Internet cafĂ©' and that he did know one of the suspects. And that was all that he had ever told me about his association with this disappearance. (END VIDEO CLIP) GRACE: You know, Karl Penhaul, it disturbed a lot of legal experts that it took so long for Aruban Police to seize the car Natalee left the bar in that night, the night of her disappearance. So I understand that, today, Steve Croes, the fourth suspect arrested, they’ve already searched his home. Is that true? PENHAUL: We don’t know how thorough the search of his home was. By the time that we arrived at Steve Croes' home in midmorning, possibly four hours, five hours after the arrest, there was no sign of Police there. Steve Croes' uncle told us that Police came and left pretty quickly. What we do know is that Steve Croes' car, a black Honda, was still parked in the driveway outside the house. What we also know is that “Tattoo” party boat, where Steve Croes was D.J., has not been searched by Police. And Steve Croes' employer, Marcus Wiggins, not Williams, as I said earlier, but Wiggins, has said that he has not been contacted by the Police to give any references or, in fact, to ask any more about the boat itself, Nancy. GRACE: Karl, I’m stunned. History is repeating itself. Aruba Police, listen! Search the guy’s car. Search the cruise ship. Talk to everybody this guy knows. David Schwartz, have you ever seen anything like it? You think this guy may be connected to the disappearance of an American girl. They take him into custody, and his car is sitting there in the driveway. Hello? Search it! Fiber, hair, semen, blood, fingerprints, same thing for the boat. What are they thinking? SCHWARTZ: You stole my thunder, Nancy. I totally agree with you. I’ve never heard of anything like this. Where I practice, the arrest is made, the search warrants are in place, and then they search either the house or the car. Sure, there’s evidence -- there is potential evidence there. There could be DNA, there could be hair fibers, there could be semen, there could be condoms, there could be e-mails, computers, anything. GRACE: Anything.SCHWARTZ: And also, with van der Sloot, don’t forget, it took them ten days. What is going on there? How could it take them ten days? It’s OK for them to detain van der Sloot, but then again, the attorney general stated that he would be acting like a cowboy if he just ran into the house. I don’t understand it. GRACE: Well, that is what search warrants are for. Back to Karl Penhaul, Karl, you mention the Internet cafe. Do we have any idea whether Natalee Holloway logged on to her e-mail while she was down there? You know, there is the Internet cafes, cruise ships have Internet for Americans that want to use it. Any idea about that? PENHAUL: We don’t have any exact feed on that, Nancy. What I can tell you about the Internet is that, during the search of the Kalpoe brothers' houses around ten days ago, the CPU, the hard drive of a computer, was seized from that house and taken away. A law enforcement source close to this investigation has said that computer is still being searched. Internet information is being analyzed. But that source didn’t tell us whether that has produced any leads. What we also know is that Joran van der Sloot, on a number of occasions, went to the Cyberzone Internet Cafe to meet his friend, Deepak Kalpoe, who is an employee at the Cyberzone Cafe. And what we also understand, from the owner of the Cyberzone CafĂ©', is that none of the hard drives or none of the computers from the Cyberzone Cafe where Deepak worked have been impounded or seized, Nancy. GRACE: Oh, when will it end? You know, I hate to keep comparing it to the American investigation, but the first thing you do is look at the e- mail, the hard drives of all of the computers that these suspects had access to. What can you tell me about a helicopter equipped with infrared technology, Karl? Was it used? PENHAUL: That’s what we understand. I haven’t seen the helicopter, but I have heard talk of that helicopter, equipped possibly with a forward- looking infrared camera, a heat-seeking camera, if you like, Nancy. What we do also know from the search-and-rescue teams here is that the Dutch marines at a certain stage of this search did bring in what they call the mole. That’s also a device that is typically used for searching mines and that kind of thing. I don’t believe that on this occasion it was used to search mines. But search-and-rescue do tell us it was used in searches in parts of the island, a pretty sophisticated piece of equipment, Nancy. GRACE: Well, Karl, I’m very familiar with the mole. It’s used to search specifically mines that have been flooded with water, quite often. It can go down and detect if there is another object in the water. Now, it’s my understanding there are mines, vacant mines, abandoned mines, at one end of the island in Aruba. Is that true? PENHAUL: Toward the northern side of the island, there are abandoned gold mine shafts. Those were abandoned about 100 years ago when the gold mining industry came to an end here on the island. Some of those mines, we’re told by search-and-rescue teams, are very deep. They haven’t been blocked off. And yes, they are flooded, in large part with seawater, Nancy. We don’t know for sure. And the search-and- rescue leaders weren’t able to tell us if other agencies such as Police and the marines have searched them. GRACE: Karl, any particular reason these abandoned mines are not blocked off? PENHAUL: Nothing that I can detect. Some of them are blocked off. Others have been partially filled with debris and such like. But others, we understand, are still open, but no reason why they’ve been left open. GRACE: Karl Penhaul joining us from Aruba with the latest in the search for an 18-year-old missing American girl, Natalee Holloway.

GRACE: The search goes on for 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, the American girl. She went to the tiny island of Aruba and disappeared into thin air. Her mother vows not leave the island without the girl.[START VIDEO CLIP]
BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY, MISSING GIRL'S MOTHER: The frustration is -- is unimaginable. And I have waited and I have waited and I have waited. And I have listened and I have heard lie after lie after lie unfold. And I have to have some answers, and I better get them soon.(END VIDEO CLIP)

On 6-17 FOX News reported:

Fourth Person Held in Aruba Mystery
ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Authorities in Aruba on Friday arrested another person in connection with the disappearance of missing Alabama honors student Natalee Holloway (search), officials said.
According to sources, the new man detained is a 26-year-old friend of Joran van der Sloot (search), the Dutch teenager who is said to have been with Holloway the night she disappeared.
The Aruban attorney general's office initially identified him only by the initials "S.G.C.," but Holloway's mother told an interviewer that his name was "Steve." FOX News later confirmed that the man's name was Steve Gregory Croes.
Meanwhile, Police brought in yet another man for questioning Friday night, FOX News has learned. The man, Max Arends, who is also a friend of van der Sloot, is not a suspect in the case and has not been arrested.
Police Superintendent Jan van der Straten told the AP Croes was detained based on information from one of the other three detainees.
Croes, who works as a party boat disk jockey, said he was contacted by Police Thursday night and went to the station voluntarily to give a statement, said his employer, Marcus Wiggins.
Croes also said he knew one of two Surinamese brothers being detained in the case because they went to the same Internet cafe, Wiggins told The Associated Press. However, Wiggins said that he had not seen the other three young men detained in the case on the boat where Croes works, a vessel called the Tattoo that offers nightly dining, swimming and dancing.
As for Croes' work ethic, Wiggins had nothing bad to say.
"I've never had problems with him," Wiggins told the AP. "He keeps to himself and shows up to work every day and does his job."
In Alabama, a woman who helped organize the graduation trip, Jody Bearman, said students did not go on the Tattoo as a group, although some could have taken a boat ride without the seven adult chaperones knowing.
"The chaperones were not supposed to keep up with their every move," Bearman said.
FOX News also learned that Police may have questioned yet another young man, said to be of Dutch nationality, on Thursday night.
Mariaine Croes, spokeswoman for the Aruban Attorney General Caren Janssen, confirmed that Steve Croes was "in custody and being interrogated."
"Every day that the investigation continues," she told FOX News, "we are a step closer to solving this case."
Mariaine Croes also said she was no relation to Steve Croes, adding that the surname was a common one on the island.
In a separate development, a judge ruled that two of the detainees, Surinamese brothers Deepak Kalpoe (search), 21, and Satish Kalpoe (search), 18, were granted access to documents they have asked for, according to their lawyer.
Van der Sloot and the Kalpoes were questioned and released shortly after Holloway's May 30 disappearance, but then formally arrested June 9, after Police moved their focus away from two security guards who had been arrested and were later released.
Beth Holloway Twitty, Holloway's mother, declined to give any more details about Croes but she told Associated Press Television News that she believes more people could be detained in the case.
"This is just the beginning," she said.
Holloway Twitty has been in Aruba (search) since nearly the early days of the search for her daughter.
"I want my daughter and I want her now," she said. "I'm very frustrated. We are in day 18 with no answers."
Paul Reynolds, Holloway's uncle, told FOX News the family remained confident that they would find out what happened.
"The authorities in Aruba and the United States are assuring us every effort will be made to find out what has occurred," Reynolds said Friday.
Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers appeared in court Friday morning. It was not clear where Croes was being held.
Prosecutors asked a judge to rule that there was sufficient cause to continue holding van der Sloot and the Kalpoes. The three were detained June 9. Under the law, a judge must review their case after 10 days, rendering a decision by Sunday.
No one has been charged with a crime in the case.
The judge granted a petition by van der Sloot's father, Paul, to visit his son in jail, but then reversed the decision. Paul van der Sloot is a judge-in-training, serving a three-year term on the bench that allows him to hear a limited number of cases.
Also Friday, the court barred van der Sloot's lawyer, Antonio Carlo, from visiting the teen, effectively removing him from the case, said Attorney General spokeswoman Mariaine Croes.
As a result, the van der Sloots retained two more attorneys for the defense of their son, Richie Kock and Arjan Debie.
The court granted prosecutors' request to remove Carlo because he had visited one of two former security guards who had been detained and released in the case, authorities said.
Croes said the Dutch teenager has a team of lawyers, so Carlo's removal will not leave van der Sloot without representation. The spokeswoman is not related to Steve Croes.
Carlo did not return calls seeking comment.
The judge was brought in from neighboring Curacao island, as is typical in high-profile cases.
Holloway disappeared the same day she was to return from a five-day trip with 124 other students celebrating their graduation from high school in Mountain Brook, Ala.
Searches by authorities, volunteer islanders and tourists have come up empty. Authorities refused to say whether they believed Holloway was dead.
On Thursday, however, Police Superintendent Jan van der Straten told The Associated Press that authorities used a helicopter "to search for possible remains — but found nothing." He declined to say where the search was conducted.
After the approximately four-hour search, Janssen said Paul van der Sloot was not under investigation.
The Kalpoe brothers have told Police that they and Joran were with Holloway the night she disappeared and that she and the Dutch youth were kissing in the back seat of their car. The detainees initially said they took Holloway to a northern beach and then dropped her off at her Holiday Inn.
But Antonius "Mickey" John, a former hotel security guard released from custody Sunday, said to reporters that Deepak Kalpoe told him during a chat in jail that he and his brother actually dropped the young van der Sloot and Holloway off together near the Marriott, about 10 blocks north of the Holiday Inn. John said he passed the information on to Police.
On Tuesday, FBI agents and officers from the Miami-Dade Police department used German Shepherds to search the area, known as Malmok beach, which is a popular nighttime spot for lovers.
Deepak Kalpoe's lawyer would not comment on John's statement Wednesday, but has said his client maintained his innocence.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

On 6-17 JUG TWITTY stated to FOX News:

Natalee's Stepfather Holds Out Hope
GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: It's been 17 days since Natalee disappeared. Natalee's relatives are here in Aruba (search) searching for her, but Investigators are not answering all of their questions.
Earlier, I spoke with her Natalee's stepfather, George "Jug" Twitty.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
Jug, can you give me an update on the investigation, what you know, how far the Police have gone in terms of finding Natalee?
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY, NATALEE'S STEPFATHER: I really don't have any information. We're kind of sitting back. We've had negotiations. You know, I've been here 16 days I think now and talked to the FBI (search), I've talked to Police. It's a tough investigation. But I feel assured that they're doing everything possible to try to find Natalee. And I've been assured — you know, we get updates from the FBI every day. They're working right alongside with the Aruban Police and government, and hopefully, are going to, you know, bring it to an end shortly. I mean, every day I get up and I say, Maybe today's the day we'll find Natalee. But I know in my heart — I mean, it's so tough, you know, being the stepfather down here, trying to help the mother, you know.
VAN SUSTEREN: Yes, you've got three problems. You've got a heart broken about a missing Natalee. You've got your own sort of sadness and whatever, and you've got also Natalee's mother.
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: Right. But it's hard. I mean, when you go back at night, you know — and you've seen she's a tough lady. She's a beautiful, tough lady and — but at night, when we get together — we have friends here supporting us, and that gets us through, the community in Mountain Brook (search) and our friends and everybody that's given us so much to get through this. But at night, when we go back to the hotel room and we quiet down, when we're staying in the room that Natalee was in, it's very tough.
VAN SUSTEREN: Are you in the same room?
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: Same room.
VAN SUSTEREN: By design? I mean, did you intentionally want that room?
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: That's what Beth wants. We want to stay there. I mean, her bags are there, packed. They were ready to go and — and that's what we want.
VAN SUSTEREN: I have heard that you spoke with one of the men who's in custody, is that right?
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: I'd rather not discuss that.
VAN SUSTEREN: Any reason why?
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: I think it may hamper the investigation.
VAN SUSTEREN: Can you at least tell me the circumstances sort of how you even came in contact with him? Did you, I mean, sort of get (INAUDIBLE) an active part of the investigation?
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: No. I mean, that's all left up to the Police department. It's part of the investigation which — everybody — they know the details. I've talked to them about the details. I'd rather them sort that out and let them work it out.
VAN SUSTEREN: All right. I don't mean to press you. I'm just sort of curious.
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: No, I understand.
VAN SUSTEREN: OK. I'm just, you know, curious. What's the plan for the next coming days, I mean, just going to find — going to find Natalee.
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: Right.
VAN SUSTEREN: How are you going to go about sort of advancing this?
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: Well, we have plenty of people down here searching. Of course, my friends have been down here searching. And you know, I'm basically relying on the Aruban Police and government, and I have full confidence now. And I've been through some ups and downs. This thing is so big that, you know, I think it just caught them by surprise. And they've never had anything like this. But I've been assured, like I said, by the FBI and by the Aruban Police and through updates every day that they're getting closer.
VAN SUSTEREN: What did you think of when you saw other missing young women and men in this country, their parents on TV? Did you understand the agony that now you and Beth are going through? I mean, can you in any way...
GEORGE "JUG" TWITTY: No, I did not. Now I do understand. And this one's even tougher because there's no clues. I mean, there's no evidence, you know? So we have hope. You know, every day, we have hope that Natalee is still alive.

NATALEE VANISHED ON ISLAND PLAGUED BY HORROR ATTACKSThe so-called tropical paradise where teenager Natalee Holloway disappeared has been the scene of a string of vicious attacks on vacationing American women, The National Enquirer can reveal.Recent graduate Natalee, 18, vanished on May 30, the last night of her five-day trip from Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, Ala., to the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba. Within days of her disappearance, two women from Mass., who declined to be named, came forward and said they were sexually assaulted on the island two years ago after leaving the popular nightspot Carlos 'n' Charlie's in Oranjestad, the center of town. One said: "I befriended a hotel worker in Aruba and he turned against me. On my last night I went out on a date with him to a local bar. After we left he took me to the parking lot and assaulted me."Amy Bradley, 23, of Chesterfield County, Virginia, disappeared from a Royal Caribbean cruise liner during a family holiday in March 1998. Her mom Iva Bradley said that Amy befriended three men who worked on the ship. She's never been found.Natalee went missing after she left Carlos 'n' Charlie's following a night of drunken revelry and got into a car with three local men. She is feared murdered.Three young men have been arrested in connection with Natalee's disappearance and remained in custody at the time we went to press. Police have identified them as brothers Satish Kalpoe, 18, and Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and their friend, Joren van der Sloot, 17. Attorneys for each have said their client claims innocence. The three young men told police they took Natalee to a beach after leaving the bar with her early on May 30, when she was last seen. They said they returned her to her hotel not long afterward. Two former hotel security guards who worked at a beach front hotel not far from the Holiday Inn where Natalee was staying were also arrested. Police identified them as Abraham Jones, 28, and Mickey John. The National Enquirer can reveal van der Sloot had an angry pushing match with Natalee's friends just hours before she vanished. The blow-up occurred on May 29 at Carlos 'n' Charlies. It's a sprawling nightclub and dance club in the resort with booths and several bars that serve yard-high margaritas for $12. The club, a Mexican theme bar that offers up loud music and South of the Border food, was the place Natalee and her group decided to party before their scheduled flight home the next day.Bryan Reynolds, 18, one of the 125 Alabama seniors on the Aruba trip, recalled that van der Sloot was chatting with Natalee and she seemed ill at ease with him. When it came time for her to leave, Natalee didn't seem to be bothered by van der Sloot. She left with him and the Kalpoe brothers. They later told police they drove to secluded Arashi Beach and parked by the ocean where Natalee and van der Sloot made out. They said they drove her back to the Holiday Inn at about 2 a.m. and claimed Natalee was too drunk to get out of the car, but did eventually. "I can stand on my own," she supposedly told van der Sloot. The men said they saw her being approached by a security guard as she walked toward the hotel. Police promptly arrested two of them. There have been reports that four women have vanished from Aruba since 1998. One note on a message board even speculates that there may be a serial killer at large. But police on the island, which depends on its $565 million- a-year tourist industry, deny kidnappings occur regularly.A police spokesman said: "We know nothing of any other missing persons from this island and we have received no further reports of women being attacked. We regard our island as a safe place for tourists to visit and the Natalee Holloway case won't change that."

me, also, and it just seems to stick out like a sore thumb that he drives there, nearly an hour there and back, but doesn't finish the errand and instead returns later in the day, when he just so happens to have the name of a bank employee he spoke with to prove he was there...With reference to the above bank employee, in Paulus' statement of June 23, 2005, he states he spoke with Ruth Dijkhoff. I found an obituary for a Ruth Gisela Dijkhoff-Holtmann who passed away on June 18, 2005. Wonder if this is the same woman? If so, she isn't around to prove he was there? On 6-18 PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT gave the following 6:30 PM statement to his ARUBAN Police Investigators:
(Thank You and Hat Tip to the “Scared Monkeys blog" and “Debbie”)

PROCES-VERBAAL We, Roland Ramiro TROMP and Clyde Anthony BURKE, respectively inspector and sergeant first class with the Korps Politie Aruba and attached to the Section Often Occurring Crimes, state the following. On June 18th 2005 at approximately 18.30 hours, we interviewed as a witness the man who when asked for his name and details, stated to be, Paulus Antonius Petrus Johanna van der SLOOT born in the Netherlands on February 15th 1952, occupation judge (Joint Court) and living at ADDRESS REMOVED in Aruba for further information. Before his statement would be taken the witness was informed of his right to refuse giving any statement due to the relationship with the suspect (comment translator verschoningsrecht=right to refuse giving evidence/statements against close and immediate family). The statement that he made was made in dutch and goes as follows. “Even though I know I have the right to refuse giving a statement, I will make a statement. I believed the story that Joran, Deepak and Satish told, until Joran changed his statement. After that Freddy came to us and told us a different story. Joran had gone with the girl to the beach. (With Freddy is meant the witness Freddy ZEDAN; comment TROMP). Freddy had told this story shortly after he was interviewed by the Police. He had called my wife and had said that he found it important to tell the truth. After that he came over to us and he first talked to my wife. After that he came back one time and and he spoke with Joran's lawyer, his parents, me and my wife were also present. My wife and myself were very crushed/saddened/injured and angry at Joran for apparently not telling us the truth. My wife and the lawyer then confronted Joran about this. According to my wife Joran reacted calmly and said that he had always told Freddy the truth. To you question whether I had conversations with the boys and told them all what to state if the Police would show up on their doorstep, I have the following to state. Again, I believed the boys and I hoped that the girl would re-appear soon. When this did not happen I had told them that if they were the last to have been seen with this girl, they could become suspects. After that I prepared them for this and told them what they could expect if they would be arrested. I repeatedly told them that they would not have any difficulty with this, because as said, they were telling the truth. To your question whether my son asked if no body would be found that there would be no case, I can state the following. I cannot remember Joran having asked me this. I have said on several occasions in all generatily that if the girl were not found, that this could pose a problem for them, on top of that would be the uncertainty whether a crime and what crime had been committed. On May 29th 2005, at approximately 16.00 hours, I went with Joran to the “Free Carribean Stud Tournament” in the Holiday Inn. During the break, at approximately 18.30 hours, I went back home. My youngest son Sebastian who was playing at a friends house was due to be dropped off at home around that time. Joran, with my permission, took over my seat because he had been eliminated earlier. We had agreed that he would call me after the tournament, in order for me to come and pick him up. He did indeed call me and at approximately 23.00 hour I picked him up near the Mc Donalds in Palm Beach with my red Suzuki. We drove home and I went to bed. I presumed he also had gone to bed. Afterwards we found out that he had gone out to Carlos & Charlies without my permission. On May 30th 2005, in the nightly hours, I did not pick up Joran from anywhere. I slept solidly through the night without waking up. On May 30th in the hours of the morning, I did not notice anything different/out of the ordinary with Joran. According to me he got onto the bus of the I.S.A. with his brothers Sebastian and Valentijn just like he always does. I am not absolutely sure about that because I didn't notice it and because Joran didn't have to be at school every day during that period. He was busy with his final exams and sometimes he stayed home. On May 30th at approximately 08.00, I went to work. The precise time I do not know for sure because during that period I had different hours on different days that I started working. I cannot remember any more if I came home to eat in the middle of the day because that too was different on different days. At approximately 16.30, I got home and the kids were already home. Because my wife was in the Netherlands I wanted to be home when the kids came home from school. Between 17.00 hours and 18.30 hours, I dropped off Joran in front of the entrance of the Aruba Raquet Club with my Suzuki so that he could take tennis lessons and go to the gym. He probably had his carrying bag with tennis necessities with him. I saw him enter the building. He had told me that he would afterwards be going to the Wyndham Hotel because a “Free Carribean Stud Tournament” would be held. I immediately went home, had dinner with the other boys and after that I went to bed. I do not remember having had contact with Joran after that. We did make an agreement that he would call me after the tournament was over, or that he would have someone drop him off at the house after the tournament. At some point during the night I was awoken by the barking of the dogs. My son Valentijn came to me and asked me what was happening. There were a lot of people at the door and there was also a Police-patrol. I spoke to them and several Americans asked for my son and said that on Sunday night he had been with a girl in Carlos & Charlies. I said, that is impossible, because he played with me in a tournament at the “Holiday Inn” and I had picked him up at Mc Donalds at 23.00 hours. I went to his appartement and then found out that he was not home. I immediately called him with my wife's mobile phone and he answered me that he was at the Wyndham. I let him know that there were people and the Police at the door and that they wanted to talk to him. I drove over with the Police and when we arrived there it became apparent that he was no longer there. I then called him again and he answered me that he was at the house. We drove back to the house. When we arrived at the house we found that Deepak was also there. (With Deepak is meant the suspect “Deepak Sharma KALPOE”; comment TROMP). There were several people at the scene among others someone named “Charles Croes”, two Police officers, the mother of the girl and other people, mostly Americans. Charles accompanied/escorted the group. They started asking Joran if he had been at “Carlos and Charlie's” and where the girl was. A photo was shown to him of the girl and he confirmed that he had been with the girl at Carlos and Charlie's”, that they had flirted and then dropped the girl off at the “Holiday Inn”. Someone in the group shouted/cursed “asshole” at Deepak. I asked everyone to please remain calm and after that the Police stepped in. We decided to go to the “Holiday Inn” to go and look for the girl, but without any positive result. At the request of the Police it was said that it would be best to file a report at the detective-squad. A man named WILLIAMS, who later turned out to be an FBI-agent had taken Joran apart to talk to Joran. Joran also briefly spoke with the mother of the missing girl. After that the heated atmosphere seemed to have cooled down somewhat. The Police officers said they would file a report about what had occurred. It was morning already when Joran and myself were dropped off by the Police at home. We did not go to bed anymore. Joran went to school feeling very sleepy. I called the “headmaster” of Joran's school and told him that in the nightly hours a lot of people had been at the house about a missing girl. I asked him if he could be somewhat understanding for the fact that Joran would be sleepy. At approximately 10.00 hours I was visited at my workplace by Jan van der STRATEN. Jan van der STRATEN requested that I go and pick up my son from school so that he could be interviewed by the Police. I asked Jan van der STRATEN if I could remain present when Joran was going to make his statement. He did not see a problem with that. I had a chat with the Headmaster and Joran. I then immediately drove to the Police station at Bubali. Joran made a statement while I was present. I had asked to be present and the person who took the statement (KELLY) had no objection to this. While in the presence of JACOBS I did make a remark, that I couldn't understand why the girl had pushed him away, if he had been first kissing with her. I also said that he should have escorted the girl into the hotel if she was that intoxicated. We then went to get something to eat and I talked to him about the case/what happened. Then we drove home. You tell me that in the past few days I have constantly been with the boys. I have indeed spoken to them regularly to give them support, support because the girl stayed missing and that was on their minds. The mother of Satish and Deepak called and we spoke with her at our home. She too was very worried and we wanted to show we felt the same way. Joran did go to school like normal to do his exams and did go to school. My wife dropped him off after school. Because she is a teacher at the same school Joran goes to. One time there was an incident at the “International School” when family members of the missing girl were putting up posters of the missing girl with written on it: “Kidnapped, ask Joran van der Sloot”. The headmaster then barred these people access to the school grounds. If the girl wasn't found, there was a good chance that the boys would be seen as suspects again. I did find it a bit strange that the boys weren't asked to make more specific/more detailed statements and so I concluded for myself that there probably was information that the girl in fact had been seen after... PAGE OR PAGES MISSING FROM STATEMENT ...spoken. With some friends who visited us we undoubtedly spoke about this because it was on our minds too. Some of our friends are members of “Friends of Aruba” and were closely involved with the search of the girl. You ask me whether I told the boys that they would be tapped. I did say that, but only because I suspected that, and a little bit as a joke. Not because I knew there were being tapped. You are asking me whether I asked Joran for Guido's phone-number. I did indeed do that to verify with Guido if Joran had truly won third place at the Holiday Inn Tournament. Joran had told me he had won third place, he said he had won 150$ and had exchanged these into Aruban Florin. I had my doubts because he hadn't told me he had won the money immediately after winning it. I spoke with Guido at the “Raquet Club” and he told me Joran did indeed win third or fourth place. I allow Joran to play the “Free Tournaments” but he is not allowed to play for real money in the casino. To your question whether I told Joran, as much as three times, that he should stop saying that he had dropped off the girl at the Holiday Inn, I can state the following. I did indeed say that and I had a serious talk with him in which I said that the should not talk about what happened again. I did this after having talked to my... On 6-18 FOX News reported:

Three Aruba Murder Suspects Going to PrisonSaturday, June 18, 2005ORANJESTAD, Aruba — One of the three suspects being held in Aruba for the disappearance of an Alabama teen vacationing there has been moved from a jail to a prison, while the other two are expected to be transported today, two sources confirmed with FOX News.A judge ruled last night that Deepak Kalpoe, who was moved to a prison last night, Satish Kalpoe and Joran van der Sloot can be held for eight more days while the investigation into Natalee Holloway's (search) disappearance continues.Authorities on Friday arrested another person in connection with the disappearance of missing honors student, officials said.According to sources, the new man detained is a 26-year-old friend of van der Sloot (search), the Dutch teenager who is said to have been with Holloway the night she disappeared. The Aruban attorney general's office initially identified him only by the initials "S.G.C.," but Holloway's mother told an interviewer that his name was "Steve." FOX News later confirmed that the man's name was Steve Gregory Croes.Meanwhile, police brought in yet another man for questioning Friday night, FOX News has learned. The man, Max Arends, who is also a friend of van der Sloot, is not a suspect in the case and has not been arrested.Police Superintendent Jan van der Straten told The Associated Press Croes was detained based on information from one of the other three detainees.Croes, who works as a party boat disk jockey, said he was contacted by police Thursday night and went to the station voluntarily to give a statement, said his employer, Marcus Wiggins.Croes also said he knew one of two Surinamese brothers being detained in the case because they went to the same Internet cafe, Wiggins told The Associated Press. However, Wiggins said that he had not seen the other three young men detained in the case on the boat where Croes works, a vessel called the Tattoo that offers nightly dining, swimming and dancing. As for Croes' work ethic, Wiggins had nothing bad to say."I've never had problems with him," Wiggins told the AP. "He keeps to himself and shows up to work every day and does his job."In Alabama, a woman who helped organize the graduation trip, Jody Bearman, said students did not go on the Tattoo as a group, although some could have taken a boat ride without the seven adult chaperones knowing."The chaperones were not supposed to keep up with their every move," Bearman said.FOX News also learned that police may have questioned yet another young man, said to be of Dutch nationality, on Thursday night.Mariaine Croes, spokeswoman for the Aruban Attorney General Caren Janssen, confirmed that Steve Croes was "in custody and being interrogated.""Every day that the investigation continues," she told FOX News, "we are a step closer to solving this case."Mariaine Croes also said she was no relation to Steve Croes, adding that the surname was a common one on the island. In a separate development, a judge ruled that two of the detainees, Surinamese brothers Deepak Kalpoe (search), 21, and Satish Kalpoe (search), 18, were granted access to documents they have asked for, according to their lawyer.Van der Sloot and the Kalpoes were questioned and released shortly after Holloway's May 30 disappearance, but then formally arrested June 9, after police moved their focus away from two security guards who had been arrested and were later released.Beth Holloway Twitty, Holloway's mother, declined to give any more details about Croes but she told Associated Press Television News that she believes more people could be detained in the case."This is just the beginning," she said.Holloway Twitty has been in Aruba (search) since nearly the early days of the search for her daughter."I want my daughter and I want her now," she said. "I'm very frustrated. We are in day 18 with no answers."Paul Reynolds, Holloway's uncle, told FOX News the family remained confident that they would find out what happened."The authorities in Aruba and the United States are assuring us every effort will be made to find out what has occurred," Reynolds said Friday.Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers appeared in court Friday morning. It was not clear where Croes was being held.Prosecutors asked a judge to rule that there was sufficient cause to continue holding van der Sloot and the Kalpoes. The court granted prosecutors' request to remove Carlo because he had visited one of two former security guards who had been detained and released in the case, authorities said.Croes said the Dutch teenager has a team of lawyers, so Carlo's removal will not leave van der Sloot without representation. The spokeswoman is not related to Steve Croes.Carlo did not return calls seeking comment. Authorities refused to say whether they believed Holloway was dead.On Thursday, however, Police Superintendent Jan van der Straten told The Associated Press that authorities used a helicopter "to search for possible remains — but found nothing." He declined to say where the search was conducted. After the approximately four-hour search, Janssen said Paul van der Sloot was not under investigation. The Kalpoe brothers have told police that they and Joran were with Holloway the night she disappeared and that she and the Dutch youth were kissing in the back seat of their car. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

On 6-18 a ARUBAN Judge was BOB WIT ruled that Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT cannot visit Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT in jail, but that the boy's mother may do so.
On 6-18 FOX News reported “The judge granted a petition by van der Sloot's father, Paul, to visit his son in jail, but then reversed the decision.”
According to his mommy, ANITA VAN DER SLOOT , while in jail Prime Murder Suspect JORAN VAN DER SLOOT admitted to her on 6-18 or 6-19 that he was alone with NATALEE on the “Marriott Hotel” beach but “did not harm her.”
On 6-18 Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT was questioned “as a possible witness” for about 5 hours by the Police. Afterwards he ran from news cameras when he exited at about 10 PM. Asked Saturday whether the father was being interviewed as a suspect or a witness, a source close to the investigation said "the latter." Sometime before 6-20 the court of the DUTCH Antilles and ARUBA suspended his “judge-in-training” has been revoked and he was so notified; Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT was never a judge. Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT failed his first judgeship exam, and has been so notified of his failure by DUTCH judicial authorities possible island expulsion in future)(is he temporarily suspended or permanently terminated? Has his/the familys passports been confiscated? ((his wife, apparently, either still thinks he is a judge-in-training because Current Murder Suspect PAULUS VAN DER SLOOT never told her he was fired (and has been lying to his wife), or, she is deliberately lying and wants everyone to think he still is a judge--because she constantly refers to him as a “judge”))
On 6-18 Police found a (partially) decapitated body of an Aruban male in the neighborhood called Sabana. (the man was later identified as RENE MICHEL VAN HEYNINGEN, and the owner of the truck of the missing man is SERGIO GOMEZ) According to preliminary (unconfirmed) reports the man was murdered in his house and then later dumped in a cemetery close by. The scene at the house and the cemetery have been described as gruesome and bloody. There are also reports of an additional person who’s missing on the island. The pickup truck of the missing man has been found, but the man himself is nowhere to be found. This recent murder and additional missing case are all being investigated.

Natalee Holloway: I Don't Get It
I don't get it. I am listening live to Beth Twitty with Greta talking about the Diario reporter tracking someone he thought was Natalee from place to place in Aruba ... Beth said the reporter contacted her through the Natalee hotline, perhaps in September. And this is information which has been kept secret until now.
Wouldn't this be Herbert Tiel, the reporter who came on during a Fox cutaway to Aruba while I was in the Green Room at Fox and he claimed to be tracking Natalee?
That was on Fox and posted in comments months ago on at least two blogs, including mine. This does not compute. See below.
MBM....Hubert Tiel, Diario Newspaper:
He told Fox reporter:
We have been working on this case since the first day, since then have picked up every piece of material, so they can have everything to put together this story. Tonight again we are on the road cause the team is following some suspect cars that we need for this story. Looks like we are going to have a nice finish for this story ASAP. His sources say they have moved already from where they were and they want to know exactly where they are going.
She asks who do you think is moving Natalee and is he saying that he thinks she is alive?
He says yes, of course. We are going in a group of 2 ladies, 3 gentlemen. One gentlemen knows a person who knows how to deal with drugs (not from Aruba) maybe from Venezuela or Columbia. The plan was to drive Natalee to Columbia, but the latest news we have right now is that because the plan has failed 3 times already, they may try to reach Columbia before Venezuela.
She asked what kind of condition he thinks she is in.
He says that the Police have their investigation going on, the press does too. We are going to all steps we can, we have put together a group to follow a car that we think are involved in this. We are working on a tip. Have not notified her family, we are working with the Police.

Yes He did he say they are following someone right now, right this minute? a car, with two females and 3 males, one a known drug dealer from Colombia or Venezuela....They had planned to take NH to Columbia but that didn't work so now the plan is to go to Venezuela first.
I replayed it to get it right.
Hubert Tiel said, "very definitely" when asked if he thought NH was alive.
Hubert did not answer the question about NH's condition. He only said "VERY DEFINITELY ALIVE"
I inquired in an email to Diario and never received a response on this.
Apparently FOX did not want to pursue this story either on air. We never heard another word from any FOX reports.
Perhaps the DIARIO didn't want to be exposed for this type of hype.

LAW CENTER
New arrest in Aruba missing teen case
ORANJESTAD, Aruba (CNN) -- Authorities probing the disappearance of missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway arrested the DJ of a popular party boat Friday morning and searched his home.
A prosecutor's spokeswoman, Mariaine Croes, in keeping with Aruban law, identified him only by his initials, S.G.C. She said he was born July 21, 1978.
CNN spoke with his next-door neighbor, who identified himself as Rufo Solognier. He identified the person arrested as his nephew Steve Croes and described him as a quiet, divorced father of a 2-year-old son.
The prosecutor's office said there is no relationship between its spokeswoman and the suspect, and that the name "Croes" in Aruba is about as common as "Smith" in the United States.
Solognier said he did not know of any connection between Croes and the three others in custody.
Croes' boss on the Tattoo cruise ship, Marcus Williams, told CNN the boat generally does not go out on Sunday nights.
Even when the boat does go out on Sundays, it returns by midnight, Williams said.
The boat docks about 300 meters, or about 1,000 feet, from the Holiday Inn where Holloway was staying.
It was about 1:30 a.m. Monday May 30 that Holloway was last seen leaving the nightclub Carlos'N Charlie's with three young men, police said. (Full story)
Police commissioner Jan Van Der Straten said Croes' arrest came after he was named by one of the three suspects being held.
No charges have been filed against Joran van der Sloot, 17; Deepak Kalpoe, 21; and his brother, Satish Kalpoe, 18.
They were arrested June 9, and their attorneys say they maintain their innocence.
They are the three men seen with Holloway when she was leaving that nightclub, police said.
On Wednesday, authorities searched van der Sloot's home, seizing two cars and removing bagfuls of evidence.
van der Sloot's father is awaiting a ruling on his petition to see his son, which is required under Dutch law since van der Sloot is a minor. Aruba is part of the Netherlands.
Under Aruban law, prosecutors can ask judges to approve three eight-day extensions, followed by one 60-day extension and then one 30-day extension.
Murder Suspects may be held up to 116 days -- and in rare cases even longer -- before formal charges are filed, said Croes, the prosecutor's spokeswoman.
Despite a massive search operation throughout the island, Aruban authorities have found no sign of Holloway.
"The frustration is unimaginable. It's unimaginable," said Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway Twitty.
"I have waited and I have waited and I have waited," she said.
"We don't even have one answer yet ... They have to find Natalee. They have to find our daughter."
CNN's Karl Penhaul contributed to this report.
